That's the sort of supper that warms the heart and belly both. A good woman makes due with what she has and never complains about it. From one woman to another, Mazzy, you're a gem. Dan, you're a lucky, lucky man. I hoped you enjoyed every morsel of that wonderful, winter feast.

Almost had the same meal on 1 Jan! Except had corned beef(really excellent too), cabbage, potatoes and carrots with biscuits(bread roll) and creamed corn casserole. Cooked mine in a slow cooker for 4 to 5 hrs. Put it on at 10:30 hrs and we were eating it all at 1500 hrs. oh...and the leftover meat; we made Reuben Sandwiches the next day! Yum, My Favorite sandwich!

Now how you get, "Smell-a-Vision", is to cook along with Mazzy, then you will know exactly what it smells like. We used to get this at the Irish Pub in Portland, Oregon, years back when I and my family lived there. That and their hot Reuben sandwiches were the best. This had me practically drooling down my shirt front. Oh the memories that came flooding back. YUM!!! Love you guys. I wish you all the best as you journey through Ireland!

@@TravelTrollsTV It's basically a toasted cheese sandwich with pastrami or corned beef and sauerkraut added. You can check out how to make them on youtube, if interested. Just search for Hot Reuben sandwich. I thought Mazzy could use the leftovers for a modified version with hot cooked cabbage. It might taste good?!

Oh yes, smell o vision is a must. Growing up we made something similar, corned beef and cabbage. All cooked together in one pot too. But no pressure cooker nor slow cooker. Just the giant stove top stew pot all day long. If yours smells half as good as mom's I will let you know. Going to be checking the butcher for gambon. As others have mentioned you want to sample some of the following - Ulster Fry (can get this pretty much anywhere, or in a supermarket you can buy a fry selection and get Mazzy to cook it) - Vegetable Roll - Champ (Potatoes & Scallions) - Steak & Guinness Pie - Dulce - Nutty Crust (bread) Places to make sure you visit on your travels, Carrickfergus, Loch Neagh, do the Coast road from Carrickfergus to portrush/portstewart. Its a pity you were not here in spring/summer as you would have timed it well for the Northwest200 road races, also could try visiting the ulster american folk park. Here in the US it's corned beef and cabbage which is eaten on St. Patrick's day especially on the East Coast in New York and Boston. You would never find it in Ireland. Strictly an American thing. Corned beef is actually a method of curing a beef brisket that was brought over from Eastern Europe to the US by Jewish immigrants in late Victorian times. The mixture of Jewish and Irish populations in the inner cities of places like New York and Boston produced the dish.

The funny thing is we have been told not to eat the corned beef in Ireland because its not very good.
