In Northern Ireland we do not use butter , just flour mashed potato and salt.cook them in a dry cast iron pan , after their cook and cooled , then you fry them with bacon and egg for breakfast. I was born in Northern Ireland and both my Grandmother and Mother made potato bread, I learned from them and have been making Potato farl for 60 years just the best bread in the world, we also made wheaten farls and soda bread , thanks for your version

Love this channel so much. Cooking wasn't my Irish grandmother's forte, so I epecially enjoy the authentic Irish recipe videos to compensate for not having many handed down from her. This recipe is very similar though to the potato pancakes I grew up with. I like to also add grated cheddar or Dubliner cheese with chives or green onions, and sometimes a little sour cream to the mix as well. Instead of boiling or steaming skinned potatoes - I now bake them, then scoop out most of the potato for the potato pancakes and freeze the skins to use later @ potato skins.
