Has it really been 17 years?? I was 20 when Among My Swan was released. I've always felt that Mazzy Star's music sounds a lot like what a broken heart is feeling. And *that* feeling combined with all the nostalgia just might splinter a few of us.

I have listened to this song over & over and what i feel is so compelling is that it is written in the voice of someone who has died, but who wants to return to a place he/she has once lived. This is written by someone in "Half-Life", a person has not completely departed from Life, and dreams of "drifting across the ocean" and "bringing all my friends" but as the song goes on, you realize that it is the voice of one who can neither go back or go forward..she thinks she can hear the voice of her

I wrote a song that is a ballad in honor or homage to my Dad,it was a ballad which can be difficult to put together...I believe Mazzy's song's can be eclectic and unusual but rife with an almost melancholy undertone. I met her on a bus out west once long ago but she was too involved with her companion to really notice me much,I have traveled the USA extensively,I've seen much change in culture and doings over the past 25 years,from Native to State type folk...things got different in the last 10 more so than basically any other time I can recall...it will always change. Culture is culture but change,today? vast. In any event...unique.

This is so good, that if I see them on this go around, I don't care if they play more than 4 more obscure songs from the 90s. If they just play mostly album cuts, current outtakes and songs that have just been wrote in the past few months, I'd be happy. Pretty much all of the 90's stuff is stellar and I love that too. But I just hope that most audience members come to shows with an open mind and refuse to get caught up in nostalgia. Stop yearning for the "old" Mazzy Star, artists evolve.

One thing about Mazzy star, and Hope Sandoval is that there albums do such a great job at reflecting different seasons. "Bavarian fruit bread" is a good album for fall, and AMS is a great winter sound to it. "So tonight..." is like a summer night album.
