this song contains at least as much ether as structure. this is such a magnificent recording showcasing the unique strengths of this vocalist/hanmonica/glockenspiel player, this guitarist... its just an unfathomable feat that they could take the intimacy of that ephemeral lucky thing captured on the studio recording and somehow do it all again here, heightened, not diminished in this live setting. this song is as magical to me as Dylan/Robbie Robertson's 66 hotel recordngs, in a similar way, though this song is more fully-realized of course. Also, Common Burn is a location in Ireland, right? Fun to think how that kernel of inspiration is refigured here with a brand new dimension of meaning/context.
