@5:25 do you use any energy logger prior to setting up in order to understand a client's consumption? Place one on a client's energy meter/main circuit breaker box for a 2-4 week period to better understand how energy is used.

This is something we are looking at purchasing as, like you say, it would help to understand their energy usage 👍

Good video, with such a big roof space was any consideration given to to mounting some panels to make use of three aspects giving a earlier and later solar window
@OvalRenewables

No as this would have bumped the cost up quite a bit and required lots more weight to be added to the roof.

@@OvalRenewables Thanks, I do enjoy your videos your jobs are always so neat and tidy, I’m new to the solar industry I have done 7 installs so far and your format and how you work has been of huge influence. 👍🏻

Any reason why DC coupled SolarEdge batteries were not chosen over the AC coupled Sonnen batteries?

Great video, do you have many issues with Sonnen battery storage? I’ve installed one and had constant inverter issues with it!! Very frustrating, would not recommend with the experience I’ve had with the SB-10 unit.

Thanks guys, great video. I was surprised at the low angle of the roof mounted panels, but you are the experts. I am interested how you got your panels secured to the roof, did you have to drill through the waterproof layer or are the concrete slabs just weighing down the metalwork? OMG though, who did your sound levels? The music came on and nearly blew my speakers out, turn down to 5% volume. Music stops, voice level is really low, back to 100% volume. Why do you want your viewers to have to keep twiddling their knobs?

It is the standard level of the flat roof mounted system. I believe it is to do with wind loading and planning permission. If the panels were pitched at 30-40 degrees then more weight would be needed to hold the system down and it may cause issues with planning permission. The volume is a strange one as on the phone it is different. I have raised it before and it seems to be a KZbin thing depending on what you are watching on.

@@OvalRenewables Thanks so much for the reply. I was considering putting panels on my flat roof extension, but had assumed they would have to be screwed through the water proof layer into the rafters. Now I know this might not be the case!

Great video Sam 👍 . How do you know which brand of PV module to choose there's so many out there do you just have your set favourites or do you try use lots of different types? Thanks
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much we have the brands that we prefer. However many of the brands around at the minute are very similar. It usually comes down to customer requirements like all black and also dimensions of the panels. Another thing customers are interested in is the warranty that you get with the panels. We look at all of these things and then select the right panel for the customer.

Im looking for an off-grid design, high power load. Wondering if 3-phase is better or more efficient than single phase?
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Ай бұрын
I would try to split the high load over three phase yes as that lowers the required output of the inverter

Did you suggest the possibility of using bi-facial panels? Should produce aprox 10% more PV, more if they painted the roof white or light grey.
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
No we didn’t as there is so much space on this roof that if they want more generation then they could easily add more panels. More cost effective that way then painting the roof white

I notice that most of your installations have strings and panels with or without optimisers feeding DC power to a large-capacity monolithic inverter. Do you ever use micro-inveters on panels thus feeding AC from each panel from the roof to electrical infrastructure? I know you need an inverter to then convert to DC for battery storage and the panel electrical components will be different. Is it a regulatory compliance issue that makes either type of PV setup preferably in your market or some other consideration? We here in the southern hemisphere have both types but domestic installations seem to be predominantly moving towards micro-inverter installations.
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message. It’s not a regulation thing it’s just how we do it. Most other installations don’t have any form of optimisation or micro inverter setup. We like the SolarEdge system however as it give the customer greater efficiency and improves safety.

@@OvalRenewables Thank you for your reply. I enjoy all your videos for the details you include and the fact that you have all the process steps with it. I would encourage you to bug Artisan Electrics to use their influence to get you some electric gloves and "artic" jackets to help keep you warm in your "British Weather Events" 😁🙃

What's the point of optimisers on a flat roof with no chance of shading?

Optimisers also allow the user an individual view of each panel for generation data. This is particularly useful if there's a problem, you can see what panel is faulty on a particular string.
@OvalRenewables
@OvalRenewables Жыл бұрын
Optimisers are very useful on every installation despite shading. They help to mitigate the effects of: -shading issues from fixed or movable objects (clouds, trees) -underperforming panels due to damage or bird mess - they alert the customer to an issue and identify the location - they disconnect the D.C. from the property if the inverter raises a problem
