I just finished this and the finale made me mad. You mentioned sacrifice...i agree. The king said "this was all made possible by the sacrifice of one woman." He was reffering to Ga Eun only. He completely marginalized Hwa Goon. The only sacrifice Ga Eun made was going back to the palace and cutting her hand. Hwa Goon gave sacrificed her life by destroying the pyungshin-hwa.

no matter how much sacrifice she had done for seja, she's no queen material. instead of thinking about people, her mind was always about seja, so i think she's more like a hero, a loyal subject or some sorta general who died in a battlefield, until the very end still loyal to the king. even though i dislike her, this episode made me respect her so much. and smh i shipped her with gon and actually cried along when gon cried. oh yes, gon is another loyal subject, keeping his promise even after his master's death. where can you find such characters like these again? huhu...

A queen's job isnt for the people. It is to serve the king and manage the palace. Her main job is to have a heir to the throne. Hwa Goon devotion to the Crown Prince and the fact that she has experience as the leader of the merchants and the pyunsoo-hwe shows she can manage people. Ga Eun built a town and managed the local merchants as well. Hwa Goon and Ga Eun has qualities to be queen BUT technically speaking they both are not qualified to be queen anyways. (by actual Joseon law) Just an FYI the criteria to be queen are: -Cannot be from the Lee family. (The Crown Prince is a member of the Lee Family) or related to the royal family. - Both Parents must be alive (Ga Eun lost both parents) (Hwa Goon's mom is dead) - Family background must be clear of any criminal or insidious relations. (Hwa Goon is the Pyunsoo) - Must posses decorum and virtues that is befitting to a princess and future queen. (No misconduct) - Must not have any wounds, illness, scares or appearances that would not be pleasant. (Ga Eun was sliced by a blade on her hand and her neck.) (Hwa Goon was sliced by a blade on her left bicep.)
