Prime mover in extension of the elbow: triceps brachii, opposing during flexion of elbow: triceps brachii, Synergist are the helper muscles in the action being performed, fixator muscle is usually at the origin and sits on top of the origin of the muscle to keep it stable while action is being performed. Thank you!!

When do you take the exam? I would recommend buying the MBLEx Study Guide by FSMTB (the creators of the MBLEx) so you know exactly what contents to cover. It is well worth the 30 bucks... also check out the other videos I created, hopefully they'll help you out. Good luck in studying! If you have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to me :) Very respectfully, Well-Known Reyes

I completely appreciate how you emphasize that muscles never work alone in the beginning and you break down each term clearly. This was helpful to watch! I have a question for you. Based on your first statement that muscles never work alone, would you consider that the antagonist isn't necessarily relaxing and rather "lengthening" which is considered an eccentric contraction? By the textbook, it may seem like a minor detail but in action, whether going down the stairs or exercising on the mat, I'd say it's important to understand that there are *active* oppositional forces dynamically working together to create balance. Wondering what your thoughts are on this. Thank you so much for creating this video-- I'm a certified Pilates teacher currently studying for my National Pilates Certification Exam!
@WellKnownReyes
@WellKnownReyes 3 жыл бұрын
This is great insight! Yes, you are right! The eccentric contraction is the lengthening of the antagonist. Eccentric contractions are tricky and are not completely understood yet... what is understood is that when the agonist contracts, the antagonist must relax, allowing for the shortening of the agonist. This is known as reciprocal inhibition. At the same time, it circles back to your insight that there are active forces on both opposing muscles creating the need for balance. Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it. This question was fun, it made me stretch and think of different scenarios when it comes to eccentric contractions. For instance, how do these eccentric contractions differ: (1) (biceps brachii alone) during weight-bearing flexion and extension of the elbow, the downward eccentric phase (2) from the eccentric contraction of the antagonist (triceps brachii) that is stretched and lengthened during flexion of the elbow alone? Wondering what your thoughts are on this. Good luck on your National Certification Exam! Do you have an exam date yet? I believe you will do great! Very respectfully, Well-Known Reyes

The answer of the quick quiz Answer of Q(1): triceps brachii ( to contract ) Answer of Q(2): triceps brachii ( must relax) answer of Q(3): assist the prime mover "agonist"and weight bearing movement at the insertion of the muscle Answer of Q(4): stabilize of the origin so that moment at the insertion point achieves an effective contraction.

In the video, you mentioned that the synergists of elbow flexion are extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis, are these muscles not supposed to be synergist for extension instead since they are located at the back of the elbow?
@WellKnownReyes
@WellKnownReyes 3 жыл бұрын
Good morning Amelia, great question! I can see how this would be confusing. Extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis are both weak flexors at the elbow (humeroulnar joint). Check out these online resources for more clarificaiton... www.physio-pedia.com/Extensor_carpi_radialis_longus#cite_note-:0-1 www.kean.edu/~jeadams/docs/Kinesiology/Kines_Power_Points/Kines_Chap_7.pdf Are you a massage therapy student? @amelialanga1877 3 жыл бұрын
@@WellKnownReyes yes I am a massage therapy student, how did you know? I went through the sources through the link, it says that those extensor carpi are the weak flexors of the elbow, does it mean that they perform minor task in flexion? I think I'm now confused, so if the extensor carpi radialis and longus are the synergist does it mean that both brachialis, biceps brachii and brachioradialis are agonists for elbow flexion?
@WellKnownReyes
@WellKnownReyes 3 жыл бұрын
@@amelialanga1877 Yes. Great job! When the arm flexes at the elbow, those are all of the muscles responsible for that specific action. Biceps brachii, brachialis, and brachioradialis are agonist. The extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis are very weak flexors (but also help in the action, as well). My channel is targeted to aspiring massage therapist, I am a massage therapy instructor in the State of Texas. Where do you go to school? Respectfully
