You should consider parting the combined beads. Take a bunch of your beads, add some copper, (maybe twice the weight of the gold-silver bead) and remelt it all into one, then flatten the resulting large copperized bead, and dissolve it in Nitric acid. The gold will remain undissolved and can be made into a pure gold bead, the copper and silver will go into solution and after neutralizing the excess acid, the silver can be dropped out of solution with sodium chloride as silver chloride and the precipitate can be turned into a pure silver bead (thus parting the gold and silver).

Hi Chris. Yes I have been thinking about getting into the acid side of things. Makes me a little nervous, but it would be a good addition. One of the things that has held me back is there is really no monetary value in doing it, correct? A PM refiner will pay the same for the gold and silver regardless if it is alloyed or separate is what I have heard. They are only concerned with getting precious metal alloys without a bunch of base metals or black sand. Thanks for the comment and keep watching for more vids :)

@@mbmmllc If you have a refiner that pays you the full value of the materials minus a small share for the work, it doesn't pay off. I just like to do that because I keep the gold. I never sell gold! ;)

But there will be some beads of lead so how you can seprate them with nitric acid from precious metals because the lead will precitapate and mixed with the undissolved gold How to separate gold from lead percitapate in nitric acid ??

Great video. Love your tenacity. Some of your newer viewers may not understand these cupels are special (bone meal, burnt antler or magnesium oxide) and lead is not soluble in them . . . lead oxide is quite soluble in them, and that's why you open smelt them or keep the furnace door ajar. I think your thought process on precious metal loss in crucibles is in the back of all our minds. Very glad you did all that work with the camera running. And, I especially liked your discussion at the end. Thanks for posting.

Well Done, when i worked at a refinery, all cupels were saved and crushed before Christmas (bonus), which was then run through a gravity concentration. On average we would get an ounce from a 55 gal drum. About 10% goes into the cupels...

I processed some slag from refining and found about 5g/kilogram of micro-spherules. It was a process in itself to break down the slag and sort the output through standard sieves. I ran the results through a blue bowl to remove some of the heavies that were left behind from burned CZ's and other junk left in the jewelry.

Very interesting video, I really appreciate your efforts "filming" and editing them. Under the topic of "nothing's free" you could have alternatively engaged in Aqua Regia dissolution and purification of your residual gold....and then you'd have chemical costs....lots of glassware...costs for far more serious fume extraction (Nitrogen dioxide scares the living crap out of me) and face shields and gloves...waste disposal costs; not to mention the hazards of messing with nitric acid which one day could blind you in an accident. On and on. All in all, I greatly appreciate your vids!

There's a refiner on KZbin called "Streetips" who chemically refines scrap gold down to 99.99% fine gold! But he only does it with batches that are big enough to be worth it cause it's a long and costly process as far as the amount of chemicals used. It's amazing having the perspective of watching gold being melted down and refined on one hand with heat and on the other hand with chemicals.

Jason, I enjoy watching your videos and I'm trying to learn how to process my gold dust. I'm collecting gold in the dryblower and a lot of black sand along with it. I melted 62g of gold dust in a potato with a bit of borax and ended up with an ugly looking 54g nugget. Then I tried to cupel the nugget in a bed of grey cement using a chunk of lead from a heavy wheel weight. The result was a disaster. I got a nice 42g chunk of shiny gold but a lot of gold is scattered throughout the cement. Any suggestions on retrieving my lost gold? Phil

from our operations in the congo,, id say you/we lose over 50%.. from start to finish..maybe more.. we recover about 50% of known heavies.. chemical analysis shows about 30% losses..and we guess another 20% lost as fine golds or dissolved gold in the water.. it can be recovered but with lots of chemicals and we dont want to do that

@shanejohns7901
@shanejohns7901 2 жыл бұрын
I think most of your lost gold is going to be in the slag itself, in the form of compounds with like sulfur. You'd have likely achieved a much greater amount of gold recovery if you had simply taken all that slag and re-melted it in the presence of an iron bar -- to displace the gold ions with the iron, causing the gold to drop out.

Hi Michael. If there is a lot of iron pull it with a magnet first. The biggest question is how much material are your working with and what are the ratios? For example if it is 75% silver and the rest is base metals that would be fairly easy. If it is 5% silver and the rest is base metals that would be harder. Would you be willing to send me a sample of the material and I could run some tests for you? I would not charge you anything and I would send back all the material when finished. You can send me an email at MBMMLLC@gmail.com and we can discuss if interested. Thanks
