I am also a huge fan of the 2020 pack, bars none the best diversity and quality pack in the world, you cant match the Eric Johnson plexi on that pack, It sounds perfect as is, with a 2x12 greenback cab, with the kabinet, on studio monitors. Its that good.

Having the Kemper for around 7 or more years, I never tried to profile my amps. In the beginning most home or studio made profiles , even by known artists were strange. A couple of guys realy got it right, among those my beloved MBritts. Usually I go for the packs that are on sale. Since approach is authentic, simple and honest with prime results, I'll let go of that go get it cheap behaviour. You earned it! The video is up to the point, reminds of Einstein, who said, make it as easy as possible, but not easier 😁 Now, besides getting your profiles, I'll try it myself. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Cologne

Awesome video!! I agree with your comments on the gain comparison. For the clean, I heard slightly less low end on the Kemper profile but I’ve heard that helps cut through the mix live. 🤷♂️
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
I heard slight differences in low end when switching but I think it was just a product of where I switched. There were just some notes I played that had bigger bottom so it was more of performance difference or even a slight volume difference. I don’t hear a low end difference through the whole track overall though.

So the -10 setting for the Return level doesn't need to be in relation to the Kemper Amp you are comparing for volume? I have found sometimes I have it set to 0 but other times the Kemper automatically sets the level very low. I can strive for -10 if that is whats going to be the most consistent.
@bartlettpsj3 жыл бұрын
Great to hear that you didn't need to tweak even the definition. I thought the Matchless vs Kemper sounded closer, but the Marshall vs Kemper, there was ever so slightly less low frequencies in the Kemper - unless it was that mid-range thing (i'm listening on a good set of HS8 monitors). They both were awesome.

Hi, great video, tons of useful information, thanks! Do you think that loudness of an amp has a lot of matter during profiling - I mean only loudness, not the fact that in general amp sounds better when it's loud cause I wish to drive amp a lot but use Universal Audio OX to the low volume of an amp and I am wondering if such procedure will affect profiles. Also, do you think that it can be done in the room without silencing sponges, etc? The problem for the room I had cause of the volume but UA OX seems to solve this problem that is why I am wondering if it can be done in a regular room. Thanks again for the video!
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
Mr. Kemper says the actual loudness of the amp isn't very important. Amps with good master volume circuits can be profiled well at low volumes in my experience. However, some amps have a "bloom" that only happens when they get louder and the power tube saturation is contributing more to the tone. I used to profile in my living room with a lot of couch cushions to deaden the sound and to keep neighbors from hating me. Not sure how well that last part worked. The Kemper space noises can be loud.

Dear Mike, I‘m a Kemper user for the most part of the last decade and I‘m also heavily relying on your profiles for years now. But... the Quad Cortex seems like a really inferesting piece of gear as I want to reduce the footprint of the tech needed to make music as much as possible (audio interface included, etc.). Long story short... do you have plans on supporting the QC with captures like you do with your profile packages for the Kemper? cheers from Germany
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
I do hope to make sounds and captures for the QC. It also looks like a cool piece of gear.

@@lonegtr Glad to hear that as your "Captures" would be a reason to buy the unit!
@joachimprue-volcker67463 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your workflow. But why don’t you use the A B comparison at the last step of the profiling to tweak and really match the Kemper to the amp ? This is the way I do it. And the first thing I do before tweaking in the case I hear a difference is to repeat the refine. This often improves the profile.
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
That’s not a bad way but I did it this way for a couple of reasons. 1. I wanted to record the real amp without going thru the kemper at all. 2. I wanted to be able to record both tracks at once and solo each of them up. 3. I can’t simultaneously play and hit the reference amp button. Not saying your way isn’t a good thing to do but I just wanted to compare the kemper profile to a recorded real amp.
@joachimprue-volcker67463 жыл бұрын
@@lonegtr That’s a good point. I did never compare the signal direkt to the amp with the signal thru the Kemper. I think Kemper works as a buffer like a boss pedal. To avoid going thru the kemper a split signal to Kemper and direkt to amp should work also. For A B Testing a switch (and a splitter) would than do it. It is possible to record this session, no need to change the plugging. The microphone mixer can go to DAW and Kemper and Kemper can go to DAW with spdif (I prefer this) or monitor out within the same session. Only for the alien noise the connection from Kemper to amp is necessary. At the point comparing A B, I use the Kemper looper. Then I can „play“ and hit the button :) Or I play and hit the foot switch on the remote to change from amp to Kemper. I am mainly interested in direct profiling, to capture the pure amp. For this purpose I use a stereo box, one side Kemper, the other side the amp. This is also a way for me comparing the results A and B. A special kind of „direct monitoring“. For miced amps I use Main out from Kemper into Neumann studio monitors.

Great video Michael! Do you EQ mics when profiling, HP/LP, or do you leave it fuller frequency so that it can be done when tracking?
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
I don’t eq the mics. In a very rare instance if the amp is just being unruly and not playing nice I may roll off some lows or highs. I always do as little eq’ing as possible when profiling and then if I need it to sit in a track I’ll do it then

Hi Mike. Well done! I notice you are using the Kemper powered head. Is there any significance to the rig sound quality in your DAW or in my case in Reaper using powered vs non powered head? Since I don't play out anymore, I didn't purchase the powered head and I have always wondered if I actually need the amp even though I am basically in headphones most of the time. Thanks for your input.
@lonegtr3 жыл бұрын
My power amp is turned off so it shouldn’t have any impact on sound quality. One thing that could affect it is if your power amp is on and you have the power amp boost turned up. That will affect the overall output I believe.
