As an INTP I really want to emphasize how much our want to learning actually affects us. For example in English most of the time I find it boring and dull and the class seems to last for 10 hours and I just don’t do much work and ace all my tests to keep my grades up. While in math I enjoy it and the class goes by really fast and I complete all my work. Also a huge thing is homework. Intp’s all hate homework and find it useless 99% of the time. That is why we are known to procrastinate and in some cases just straight up not do the work
@loftilofi96784 жыл бұрын
This is what I think most students think. In my experience, many people I know also procrastinate and cram for tests. School seems boring because we all want to do something also more meaningful to us. We were forced to endure this kind of stale education after all, and the number of obligations it entails can be draining and seemingly useless.

As an INTP, this is very accurate information. I found the conventional school experience largely tortuous. I found endless repetition and summarizing to be painfully boring, and despise the too-common approach of gearing education towards memorization rather than understanding. An INTP wants to *understand*, and an INTP will commonly understand complex or abstract concepts with a speed and depth greatly outpacing other types. Abstract logic is almost a native internal language for INTP's. INTPs are motivated by the internal reward of understanding, and in many cases they may show little regard for grades and other external measures. If an INTP considers a topic boring and irrelevant they may passively wait out the entire course with negligible effort, negligible attention, and merely passing performance. If an INTP loses respect for a teacher they may exhibit genuine and complete apathy for threats (and outcomes) of failing grades. If possible action should be taken to transfer the student to a different class - they may abruptly exhibit good or even superior performance in the new environment.
@Jordan-Ramses4 жыл бұрын
To be fair, if they geared it towards understanding we would be even more bored because that is so easy.

This alligns with my personal history in school. Even in one of my favourite subjects, math, I failed because the teacher was treating us like we were little kids. Something also important is if they are interested in the topic. If I am interested in something, I can hyperfocus on it and become an absolute master in that subject. But if it doesnt interest me, it's like pulling teeth trying to learn it. It's unreasonably difficult and just an overall torturous experience. And you can't make INTPs want to learn something. You CANNOT make them want anything. Because of our Ne Parent/Ni Critic cognitive functions.

I was lucky and went to a private school that focused on making us understand and write about what we had learned and put it into words instead of just taking tests (waldorf school) but I don't think I want to go to uni as I know how the school system works and I think Im better off doing things with my hands or controlling machines or sth like that and using my i tellect how I please getting knowledge myself in what I please.

Being an INTP and someone who hated high school with a passion, I now realise the importance of University, especially its place for the intellectual types. After dropping out of University and trying to live in the 'real world' for a year, I quickly learnt that its a hard world out there. What would you rather do today? Work a 9-5 in a job that doesnt have much progression or use of intellect, or go to University and use and develop your gift as an intellectual whilst having a good time, only to come out of it with a significantly higher paying job (depends on field of study). University for an INTP seems like a Win-Win to me. Again, coming from someone who hated high school and then went to University and hated it just to drop out. It's the right choice to make. Unless you have a skill that is going to pay the bills for the next 20 years, just pick a degree that isnt useless and stick it through (just look at it as an apprenticeship). In University you have so much freedom its honestly a joke (and an INTPs dream).

If I'm put into an uncomfortable learning environment, I do either exactly what she says at 5:20, becoming a nuisance for the teacher and start discussions that are more interesting than the boring stuff that's being taught, or I tune out completely. There are basically these two options. I'm very aware about that, so I try to leave the teacher alone. If the teacher proves to be unprepared or stupid though, it's open season. I spent the last years of my studies at a distance university, I can highly recommend it to INTPs.

As an INTP, I would say that the benefit of INTPs working in groups is to the group and not the INTP. An INTP is a self-contained positronic database and the only benefit for them in group work is in solidifying those abstract connections while trying to explain them to the meatbags in the group. An INTP can operate at peak with zero meatbag interaction (outside of the collection of data, for which meatbags are essential) and can exist quite perfectly within their own understanding.
