A fantastic breakdown of how INTPs learn. I always felt so weird in school. I was so annoyed with how people focused so much on emotional things and social standings. I had zero interest and I'm sure that frustrated many of my teachers. I always needed more time, more room to ask questions or understood a topic so quickly that I didn't care about the details of the facts or the work. Many of my "friends" called me weird or looked at me like I was an alien because much of my time was spent in my own head. I never really felt like I was there so much as I was a camera on a TV show watching things unfold remotely. I didn't feel like my job or purpose was to interact but to study humans as if I wasn't one because social things didn't come naturally and in many ways they still don't. My super powers of deep learning and explanation really do feel like a gift but the caveat of never feeling like I fit anywhere always feels like a burden.

It’s so strange to learn this so many years later in life. My parents and my sibling could never understand how I got straight A’s in school but rarely if ever had any homework. While they had always struggled in school. I really couldn’t explain it to them either.

Studying actually pain in the ass for me because when I study I don't want to study but when someone ask me a question is like can you solve this problem and I'm like oh of course I can and i solve it but when it's time to study i can't find the motivation for doing anything

I am a failure as an INTP. Studying is not my strong suit, and I am not studying extra ever. I'm always interested in other topics, and procrastinating studying what my professor wants me to study. I still get A's for the most part but there is always a B each term as well usually. 😅

I've cried so much during my time studying because I feel like modern studying patterns and curriculums only benefit a certain subset of people. It affect ts me to the point that I get triggered as soon as somebody hints a discussion about curriculum and I break into tears while explaining why I don't like systems. My fellow students never understand why it's so difficult for me to follow standard procedures, especially in a society that only honours work ethic and hustle culture. This video helped a lot in making me understand what my strengths are and what I might try to overcome weaknesses. Maybe I'll withdraw into being an unemotional shell once I master this, as I always was.

I find it interesting that intps are pegged as the academics, maybe in a broad archetype sense, but academia (college and so forth) in reality these days would be totally boring and outright wrong in so many ways for an intp. Literally everything (every topic) is defined on todays campuses and questioning is not allowed. You're just supposed to regurgitate the information given and shut-up. The learning style presented in this video is good, but the venues to practice that style of learning are unavailable.

Create that yourself. From the notes given to you. Write the question down and for the answer, idt you need a teacher. It's right there in the book. In fact I always feel like there is no need for teachers if you have books. And you can figure out the answer yourself.

Do what I did. Don't go to college until you're nearing 30. College is disgusting at age 19 for an INTP, but now that I have formed opinions on most subjects and a decent map of reality, I'm able to enrich my views with the good and bad of the perspectives of my professors. It feels more like an academic conversation than being "taught" a subject. The difficulty is the tedium of turning in the required assigments, so to beat this I took out student loans and Federal Aid. Now when I only have 1 day left to turn in an assigment, it WILL happen. Of course, I wasted the 6 days prior on watching random KZbin videos, but I will still manage to get the grades.

I had a librarian who thought as she does. After I read all of the books in the school library, she continued ordering more books so that I would get bored. I was always bored in school until college where you could read until your heart’s content and then be rewarded for it.

It's so intriguing to watch such a relatable video. With online college, I find myself being able to complete the work in a fraction of the time I would have had I attended a physical class. That's one thing I really hate about in-person instruction. I don't mind being around people. I actually can enjoy it at times. But the fact that class time is so unproductive bothers me so much. I will always zone out and think of something else during a lecture so spending an hour in a classroom is a complete waste of time for me. I am so much better off teaching the material to myself in 1/4 of the time. Online classes offer so much freedom and flexibility and I simply cannot envision myself going back to such an unproductive environment in which everyone just chases their own tail.

I relate to this a lot. The current situation is really bad but tbh I wish to never go back to uni, so much waste of time as you described plus transportation time, I better use that time to sleep and get the stuff done in a couple of hours and then read something far more interesting.

It took me until I was in my late 40s until I found that I have to force myself to get up and do. But still guilty of procrastinating. I used to try and have 1 person around who motivated me. But now in my 60s I don't know anyone I would want to spend that much time with. So I try to push myself, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
