Good morning, What I don't understand with this compass are the bezel numbers. They do not refer to degrees. Starting from the North are 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 E 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 S etc. and continue like this until 64, then North. What does this mean, how can you use the compass in this way? Regarding the marks on the edge of the compass, they indicate the percentage of slope when you position them against the contour lines of the map.

Hi Robert, the scale on the bezel is in millimetres, not degrees. It's more accurate and used by the military. I couldn't find one in degrees at the time. The 64 means 6400mm. It can still be used in the same way when doing bearing etc. I did pick up somewhere that the lines on the side were to determine the angle of the slope but didn't take it in thinking I probably wouldn't use it. Excelente bússola. Deixei de comprar esse mesmo modelo por conta do Bezel ser em Mil, e não nos padrões convencionais em graus, optei para o modelo A-30 por conta desse detalhe.

aquí en mexico, este tipos de brújulas presentan un fallo después de comprarla aproximadamente en 3 meses se presenta una burbuja en la capsula no permitiendo el movimiento de la ajuga o impidiendo el movimiento de esta fui al servicio técnico de aquí en mexico suunto mexico la cual no se hace responsable de este fallo y te alienta que compres otra bujula de otra marca mejor. triste pero cierto no te dejes estafar por esta marca.

On this model, Why do the bezel numbers only go up to 90 degrees, and how does one report a bearing? I never noticed this until I tried to to teach Grandson how to use a compass. He was facing due south and said our bearing was 88 degrees. Uh, no. What’s up with this compass?

The compass featured here is actually the Suunto MC-2, not the MC-2G, which uses a different 'global' needle.

It's clearly marked MC-2G. That's the reason I bought it.

@@Andy-walkaboutnutty if it's marked MC-2G, then someone at the factory used the wrong baseplate on your example. You'v got a standard needle compass, so it's an MC-2. The 'G' in MC-2Gstands for Global, meaning the Global needle system patent. Ask Suunto if you don't believe me.

The MC-2G uses a 'global' needle with a completely different, visually distinct orange/white rectangular needle design, as opposed to the red and black needle of the standard MC-2. Search google images & you'll see the difference.

The Suunto MC 2G suffers from quality control issues. Mine developed a large bubble after 4 years. Suunto charged me $25 to replace it, plus I had to pay for shipping to send in the bad one. The replacement also failed in under 5 years!!! This is unacceptable and their customer service is useless. I do not abuse my compasses. I have a Suunto M-3 that is 25 years old and is in perfect condition. Think twice before you buy Suunto.
