I'm from Lincoln Park where they started and to this day I swear I have never heard any band that could rock harder than the MC5. "Seeing them live was like getting hit with a sonic boom over and over again. It is hard to top that". That was from someone I know who saw them at Tartar Field. From what I have seen in videos of them live, he was not wrong.

Rest in peace Dennis. Long live the MC5. Thanks for all the music, and inspiration. There will never be another band that could recreate what they did.

Still have my "Free John Sinclair" poster. My older brother gave it to me because he went to Eastern Michigan University. I was around 12 in 1971. It hangs proudly in my office.

I collect MC5 legends. One of which I learned from a fine musician from Detroit relocated to the UP. Bobby H. had a friend who had a full drum kit made up of discarded parts of Dennis Thompson's drums from their onstage equipment smashing.

Dennis Thompson, Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell, Carmine Appice, Paul Whaley, Ginger Baker, John Bonham---those were the pioneers of power drumming. They made drumming as important and as loud as guitars. Before they came along, drummers were just support guys

Just like some shiny comet, the glare of their legend keeps recurring, sometimes with a loud thunder blast, sometimes with a tornado roar, always on the cusp of causing a landslide. All in all they conjured all the natural and cosmic elements into their brave RnR. I thank you and the Gods for saving this footage as XXthC. Lore. Some groups are unique, and this is the best you can get.

I’ve only started listening to this band recently and they were mighty kick - ass - and the first thing I noticed was the way Dennis works a beat - pushing and pulling - very rock and roll. - I like this interview - he’s a man who has values that are authentic and true; clearly an intelligent man - God bless -

Loved that Dennis talked about Over and Over. High Time is my favorite MC5 album and one of my favorite albums of all time. I think it was the perfect balance of capturing the rawness of the first album while having that studio polish.

Thanks Dennis for your passion in staying true to the music and fans. I love to watch your drum work on the footage. Like you said you broke sticks all the time trying to pund out a beat over those Big Marshall's. Vic Firth Sticks made around here you made them rich~

I think the set from The Beat Club on German TV is more like the real MC5's sound, just superb and thanks to Dennis I picked up my first sticks in 75 as a skinny 10 year old kid. Great to see he is still around with Wayne, sad story though

What show / date is this from? Anyone know how much MC5 material is out there? WHen I collected their live stuff obsessively, there must have been 10 shows out there (this is before the movie), if that many... Grande, Westfield, Providence, Florida, Saginaw, Ungano's, Unitarian Church... Copenhagan and Switzerland, Aylesbury... Sturgis Armoury didn't circulate among anyone I knew. So glad more material came out.

Theres one interview ....( So short ) where Rob Tyner talks. Wayne never mentioned Tyner in his life.....seems. Anyway , Mr Thompson ; Having Rob Tyner as , " Spokesman"....give the Band proper dimention. Makes sense.. ( Wayne stinks at talking about MC 5 ) Rob Tyner , just to hear him speak....one few seconds....lts like Jim Morrison......Rob owned the MC 5 concept. Rob needed.... more space , l dont know wat , always sounds ( and looks ) hes on the edge of exhaust ion...... Sister Ann ....pianos too simple ,but its his best " piece" ( Of course l like whole drag out....Kick out the Jams.... And in Living In the USA...; " Let it rock boys...! "

Stooges weren’t better, just rip offs of the mc5 you can even watch their documentary where they acknowledge the fact

Ha, funny thing is I looked to see if any commented about PiL. I never liked them, but we all dont need to like the same stuff. Overrated? depends on what you are judging them by. Pure musicianship- they are not that. Attitude- hell yeah.
