What Grant failed to mention regarding Laine is the fact the Laine has only played 45 ish games over the past 4 seasons due to injuries. I’d be more keen on it if he was less injury prone but he isn’t.

I don't think so. Dickinson, Buium, Silayev, Parekh, Levshunov and Yakemchuk could all go top 5. And Chi, Ana, Col all went for a forward last year too. I feel like this year, its gonna be a D heavy top 5, other than Celebrini obviously. It could go like this; 1-Celebrini 2-Levshunov 3-Yakemchuk 4-Dickinson 5- Mtl's dream scenario or headache to pick a forward lol

C'mon Grant, are you making outrageous statements just for the sake of it? Lindstrom should not be compared to Dach. For years Dach has missed a significant number of games so a comparison would only be fair if Dach was not injury prone. Given Dach's injuries, how far is he ahead of Lindstrom? You suggest Lindstrom should play on the wing then why not draft a winger like Tij or Sennecke? This podcast was obviously recorded prior to the terrible news that Lindstrom suffered a herniated disc however stats indicate a high percentage of professional athletes do recover and especially at his age. In Hugo I trust so if Lindstrom / Demidov / Catton are concerns then there are plenty of great prospects in this draft and Habs will get one. Great seeing Brian on the podcast!

I was reading Doug MacLean’s book “Draft Day” last night and came across him talking about zherdev the 4th overall pick. He said he had the most talent of the draft but just didn’t work. The skill was through the roof but the character of the player and the off ice bs caused him to not reach his projection. It got me thinking , hopefully we do our homework on Demidov. I know the habs will but just got me thinking.

Following your plan, this is a scenario: San Jose picks Macklin Celebrini 1st overall. Chicago picks Ivan Demidov 2nd overall. Anaheim picks Artyom Levshunov 3rd overall. Colombus picks Cayden Lindstrom 4th overall. Montreal calls their timeout to make a trade. PATH A: MTL trades Matheson, Mailloux, Joshua Roy and 3rd-rd (2024) to Utah for their 6th overall (2024). Montreal walks to the podium. Montreal picks Tij Iginla 5th overall. Montreal calls their 2nd timeout of the draft to make another trade. MTL trades Montembeault, Pezzetta, Anderson (or Armia), and throw also Xhekaj in there if they have to for NJ's 10th overall 2024. Montreal walks to the podium. Montreal picks Bennett Sennecke 6th overall. Ottawa picks Parekh 7th overall. Seattle picks Buium 8th overall. Calgary picks Dickinson 9th overall. Montreal calls a third timeout to make a trade. MTL trades a 4th-rd (2024) Evans, Strubble, Armia (or Anderson whoever we got left) to MIN for their 13th overall. Montreal walks to the podium. Montreal picks Berkly Catton 10th overall. Buffalo picks Carter Yakemchuk 11th overall. Philadelphia picks Cole Eiserman 12th overall. Montreal picks Konsta Helenius 13th overall. Iginla-Sennecke-Catton-Helenius. (4 top 15 draft picks, all forwards.) Check out> path B: Once MTL completes the trade with Utah and acquire their 6th overall. MTL trades their 5th overall (2024) and their other 3rd-rd (2024) for CAL's 9th overall (2024) and 1st-rd pick (2025). Calgary ends up picking Iginla 5th. Montreal picks Sennecke 6th. Ottawa picks Parekh 7th. Seattle picks Buium 8th. Montreal picks Dickinson 9th. Montreal picks Catton 10th. Buffalo picks Yakemchuk 11th. Philadelphia picks Eiserman 12th. Montreal picks Helenius 13th. Sennecke-Dickinson-Catton-Helenius. (3 forwards, 1 D) You emptied your team but it's for the best. Dickinson's floor will be higher than Mailloux', and Dickinson's ceiling is a lot higher. Except for Celebrini, Dickinson is the safest pick because of his floor. Matheson is expandable in a rebuild and Utah needs to draft defense. You're giving them 2 of them, Matheson 29yo who is established and has 5+years left in him and Mailloux who is almost NHL-ready. Joshua Roy and the 3rd-rd is just to grease them and force them to accept. Joshua Roy is expendable. You're getting 2 forwards back anyway; Helenius and Catton (unless you go for Eiserman, Connelly, Greentree, Hage, etc...) We don't need our goalie either, just give it to a team that needs one like NJ. NJ got 18m$ space right now, they could easily absorb the contracts of Montembeault, Pezzetta, Anderson (or Armia), and Xhekaj. They need a goalie and they love grit. Getting Motembeault and Xhekaj would catch their interest pretty quickly. Anderson (or Armia) and Pezzetta are just to grease them up. They would probably even tell you to keep Pezzetta if they didn't have enough space on the cap. The trade is too good for them to refuse. Or they would prefer Pezzetta over Anderson (or Armia) which is not a big deal since we're ready to give them both. We are rebuilding to bring the cup back home. In 5 years+ they will be a playoff team and Patrick Roy will be their coach. Montemb and Xhekaj is exactly what NJ needs, and the two others wouldn't hurt either. They are probably looking to draft a D anyway. So if Anaheim picks up Levshunov, Ottawa picks up Parekh, Seattle picks up Buium, then MTL or CAL picks up Dickinson, then the only 2 guys left for NJ at 10 is Silayev and Yakemchuk. They might be even more inclined to make that trade. And even if NJ wanted Silayev, would they prefer Silayev or Monteambeault, Xhekaj, Pezzetta and Anderson (Armia)? They can't refuse! THEN.. Getting a 1st-rd pick next year from Calgary is a high risk high reward move. I think they will be at the bottom of the standings next year. It's going to be another top 10 pick for sure. So if you're willing to let them have Iginla 5th, you can still have lots of options at 9. You're swapping 5th for 9th and giving a 3rd-rd this year for a 1st next year and like I said, it'll be a top 10 pick. MTL ALREADY HAS two 1st-rd in 2025, so imagine if we add another. That would be 3x 1st-rd picks in 2025!!! This move could pay off big big time. It really depends where is Iginla in your rankings. ALSO There is a small chance that Lindstrom and Demidov are available at 5. I don't think they will be but it would be crazy to get one of them + Iginla. That would throw the Sens in a turmoil between Sennecke and Parekh, who I believe are the two players they want. If they end up choosing Parekh regardless, Seattle might also pick Buium regardless (or Silayev) Then Calgary would pick Dickinson 9th, and MTL you could get Sennecke 10th. That could result in Lindstrom-Iginla-Sennecke or Demidov-Iginla-Sennecke. That would be completely insane! Then you use the 13th acquired from MIN to get your 4th forward. What players would you pick if those 2 scenarios? At 5, 6, 10, 13 and at 6, 9, 10, 13.
@malakaspawt3190

@@dav4303 "We need NJ 10th. Then draft 2big forwards use 26 on Surin" Brother, I have Surin around 15-20, currently 18th (Chicago). If he is available at 26th and MTL picks him, it would be nice! Trade Montembeault, Xhekaj, Pezzetta, and Anderson (or Armia) for NJ's 10th overall 2024. NJ wants/needs D, they're not going to draft a forward. 4 of the 6 top Ds; Levshunov, Parekh, Dickinson, and Buium (or Silayev) won't be on the board at 10. So NJ has two choices here. A/ They pick between Yakemchuk and Buium (or Silayev). or B/ They trade their pick for Montembeault, Xhekaj, Pezzetta, and Anderson (or Armia). I think it's a fair deal. Who are the 2 forwards you'd pick? Iginla 5th and if we're lucky Sennecke 10th?
