Thank you for your review. It was really helpful that you included visuals to show how the dress fits both you and your daughter.

Sewing sizes and ready to wear sizing bear non relationship! Always go by measurements on pattern back. Been there and learned the hard way!

Same here... But I haven't seen this dress together yet. I'm about the same size as the gal doing this review, but my measurements put me in a size 20 of this dress...😳

I have made 2. 1 with a printed cotton - the bodice being made up of multiple pieces sewn together, as I had only a small amount of fabric, and I knew that due to the gathers on the bodice it would never be noticed. Also I don't like bias cut or A line, so cut the skirt to gently taper. I was so pleased with it I made another in a knit, no zipper and I love it also. Made both the same way you did with the little cap sleeve. Fit good, but McCalls is often tricky. This is a great pattern to use if you have left over fabric, and don't do the bias cut.

I've thought about making this with a knit; you've convinced me to do so. It is a nice pattern and flattering on the body.

@@barbaralies You will get a lot of wear from a Knit - no iron, no zipper!

Hello. I’ve been a seamstress for 20+ years and almost every big 4 pattern for adults have been 2 sizes smaller than what the people wore in RTW. I’ve had customers from size 2-28. It seems the children’s patterns run closer to RTW. Maybe no one put the sizing thing because it’s a given. Just my thoughts on it. It is a really cute dress. I love you fabric choice.

Jennifer, you won't be sorry. It is a lovely pattern. I've made it once again and was able to avoid the zipper and just slip it over my head.

Really nice. I just saw this and thought that the design you wore would make a nice sleep dress w/o the zipper. Did you make one out of knit and did it work as you thought?

I am grateful for this review. I did a size 16 and it was perfect for me, I am a size 38 in Burda patterns.

I have that pattern, but haven't made it. Your version is so pretty!

I think what happened is you were looking at the finished garment sizing, which is the ease that is included.. I wear either a 4 or 6 off the rack and sew a size 10 in pants and size 12 in tops.

That could be, Margaret. I will need to go back and look. Thank you for watching.

I think you’re right, body measurements for a size 14 sewing pattern would be like a 36” bust.... 40” bust is a size 18 sewing pattern. (Excluding a few independent pattern makers who try to go along with ready-to-wear sizes). I always, always, always check the size measurements first!

I had the same problem. I am size 16 but this pattern is way too small. Happily, my first try was to make a nightgown. So it is still okay.

I wish all the pattern makers would get together and agree to standardized sizes...thanks for watching!

Hi there - i just picked up this pattern even thought its end of summer it was on clearance so i am going to give it a try. I think that you used the wrong measurements the body measurements for the Size 14 which you indicated you used are Bust 36 /Waist 30/hips 40. So if you do make is again it should work out much better for you if you use the body measurement chart.

Yes, I actually bought the pattern again and will cut the next size larger. I really love the pattern.

Tip:. Do not cut the pattern, trace it onto butcher paper, or if possible, go to local newspaper and buy a roll of newspaper (end of roll), if possible. I used to work at the Sacramento bee, and was able to buy an end of roll of the newspaper (unprinted) that I use for patterns. This way your original pattern is always intact and you can use all sizes and get more bang for your buck!

It seems silly to complain that it didn't fit, when you never bothered to check the measurements that are printed right on the pattern.

HELP! Why are there DOUBLE cutting lines at the top of piece number 2? I notice it goes to size 16, but then there’s additional dash lines above it. How do I know what that is? And which style it goes to? Pls help! I’m old I don’t get it haha

It's been a long time since I made this dress, but I think the 2nd line would be the fold line for the casing.
