Dr. Jonathan Brown is the Alwaleed bin Talal Chair of Islamic Civilization in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and he is the Director of the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. He received his BA in History from Georgetown University in 200 and his doctorate in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Chicago in 2006.
Dr. Brown speaks during a fundraising banquet for the Muslim Community Center - East Bay in Pleasanton, California. The event was held at the Marriott Hotel Ballroom in San Ramon, California on Sunday, March 13, 2016.

Yesterday's people thought that too much punishment ( corporal ) was a good thing , today's people think exactly opposite . Shariah law fall somewhere in the middle and all the elements have to be followed before the punishment can be given . For example , if a ruler fails to provide for his people and ensure peace , tranquility and economic opportunity for his people , he cant give the Shariah punishment

I am Pashtun and the marrying sister in PashtunWali is the least of Pashtuns rage and it happens very very rarely like i have seen 3000 enmities of Pashtuns here in one city but only heard like once that they resolved their conflict by marrying and i see this everyday where they want to resolve the conflict then mother of perpetrator goes to the home of the victim and take off the showl of her head and asks him to forgive us and then he has to and never heard that someone hasn't
