The vast majority of controversial issues that Muslims encounter come from Hadith tradition. It is controversial because it is an important source of Islamic law and belief that if not properly studied/analyzed, will be very confusing. Dr. Brown discusses a few pointers to keep in mind when coming across hadith.
Dr. Jonathan Brown is the Director of Hadith Research at Yaqeen Institute. Dr. Brown is Associate Professor and Chair of Islamic Civilization at Georgetown University. He is the editor in chief of the Oxford Encyclopedia of Islam and Law, and the author of several books including Misquoting Muhammad: The Challenges and Choices of Interpreting the Prophet’s Legacy.

This brother really knows how to explain Hadith. It took me years in a traditional seminary setting to learn what he writes in his introductory book on Hadith (not to say there was anything strictly wrong with traditional learning I found it a truly amazing experience) . I used his works as a type of hadith for dummies whist I did my MA in Islamic Studies, lol. May Allah grant him a long and productive life!

I think Dr Brown explained comprehensively that one should not just pick up and read a hadith book and take the meaning literally, without taking a proper hadith science to understand it. I wish he could have said that much earlier. Since the birth of internet, I have been receiving so many hadiths in my mail box without proper context and explanation behind them.

Subhan Allah. Brother Jonathan explained it perfectly when he said the style and manner of the Prophet's SAW speech in the hadiths overall proves it's consistency and authenticity. The style of the Prophet SAW is truly unique when u read many hadiths. Many have tried and failed to fabricate and imitate the Prophet's SAW speech. Allahumma salli wa sallim 3ala nabiyina Muhammad wa 3ala aalihi wa sahbihi. Allah SWT says in the Quran: " Say: If you truly love Allah then follow me (ie the Prophet) and Allah will love you..." To all those Quranists claiming to love Allah, you will never truly love Allah if you don't follow the Prophet SAW....the verse in the Quran is very clear. Salam.

@Zugitage The instruction in the Quran was addressed to the muslims of that time who were being recalcitrant in following the Prophet's commands! Obeying the Prophet after his death makes no sense at all for the following: 1. Allah did not guarantee the authenticity of the hadiths as He did with the Quran, so we do not know what hadiths are authentic. 2. Prophet's commands may make sense for that time and for that society and yet make no sense for our very different time.3. We do not have context available of why the Prophet commanded what he commanded, and so we would be in error in applying his command incorrectly or inappropriately.

When we get confuse on some Hadith. There is a very easy way out. All we need to know that how did the companions of the beloved Prophet understood it and how did they applied it. Why? Because they were the one who lived, ate with prophet and they were the one who actually saw Islam being revealed! So this is how it works, when we get confused on Qur'an, we take guidance from Hadith, when we get confused on Hadith, we take guidance from the understanding of consensus of 'salaf' (first three generations after prophet). And then we go to scholars. Btw, there are very few matters in which you have to go that far. Generally, 95% is very clear from Qur'an and Hadiths.

Salamun Alaikum. Allahoakbar. Positive approach, acceptable explanations. But still this does not proof any authenticity of the hadith. As an example, take the daily horoscope: "A rather upsetting dream could disturb your sleep tonight". True as hell, but every one can come up with these type of statements, not necessarily from a special source. But the originators of the horoscope will make you to believe, that this information comes from a higher entity. Are we Muslims making Islam unnecessarily complex? A person walking in front of you while you are in Salat? That is your fault, because you choose to do Salat in an area where people are walking by. So who is the ignorant one? Make a proper choice where to do your Salat and there will be no one walking in front of you or even stepping on your back while in Sajdah. Agree?

It is the same as saying: "I explain to you, through the Quran that this appraoch is wrong." Is it me that explained it❓ YES. But did i use any knowledge besides the Quran❓ NO❗️ Is the sentence thus formed that it clearly shows that i explain it❓ YES. Does this mean i didn't use the Quran❓ NO❗️ The verse says it so clearly, it is even scary you miss this. Let's use this in a sentence again with different wordings. "I have written this post, only so you can explain to them about why not following hadith as wahi." Does this in any way imply to something else next to my post❓ NO❗️ Does it imply that the purpose of this post is to use it to explain to others❓ YES❗️ It clearly says; This post is given, SO you can explain it to them. The exact same thing implies for verse 16:64. The Quran was revealed to Muhammed only so he can explain to them things USING the Quran❗️ Is it still Muhammed to them that explained it❓ Yes, it is his voice. Does it in any way imply to other explanations outside of the Quran❓ Certainly not❗️

Once Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) of `Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! What is deficient in our intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her religion."

@KaauhurK
@KaauhurK 2 жыл бұрын
@@ahmedakhan1 Its translated in english differently. The hadith is true as it is in Sahih Bukhari. I will explain it if it helps you brother. Basically if we look at it literally, it looks like Muhammad (SAW) is talking about women's intelligence compared to men. which is not what this hadith implies. What this hadith is talking about is her intelligence in comparison to her compassion, which is something that can be observed naturally. A women wouldnt hesitate for a second if her child was about to fall into the fire and she would jump into it as well, regardless of the fear of death, but the father would hesitate for a second and think "How do i do this?". Also her being less in intelligence isnt compared to men for that matter. For example, a woman, can have high compassion but lower intelligence, yet her intelligence can still be higher than normal men. The greatest example being Ai'sha ( radi allahu anha). Her compassion level was higher compared to her intelligence, yet her intelligence triumph millions of men. Most companions would consult her for issues and directions. Hope that explained some of it.

@@KaauhurK Sister let me say that I appreciate your comments. However, even if the hadith is from Sahih Bukhari it does not necessarily mean that it is true. There are hadiths in Sahih Bukhari that are in contradiction to the Quran, contradict other hadiths, show the Prophet in less then the best manner and are contradictory to reason. We can and should reject such hadiths. Imam Bukhari collected hadiths some two hundred years after the death of the Prophet. He tried his best to authenticate these hadiths through isnad (transmission) and ilm al rijal (biographies of the transmitters). This method of authentication is highly flawed and subject to many errors. According to Imam Bukhari he examined over 600,000 hadiths and rejected 99 percent as forgeries or duplicates. In other words there were many forgeries in circulation in his time. Finally, the Sahih Bukhari collection of hadiths did not come to us directly but through a number of people, some of whom did their own editing. We do not really know if the Sahih Bukhari that we have has hadiths that were not in the original collection, or if some of these hadiths were edited and changed by others. The truth is that the only authentic information about Islam that we can trust implicitly, is the Quran. Your explanation of the hadith is a completely made up version with no basis of fact. You have tried to give a meaning to the hadith which it does not have. It is as if you are talking about something completely different. Let us accept that this hadith is a forgery as it is contrary to what the Quran says about women. Thinking in this hadith is exactly in line with the misogynistic views of the jahaliyah! I cannot ever imagine the Prophet saying what he is supposed to have said in this hadith! As Aisha said, “Verily, the character of the Prophet of Allah was the Quran.”

In Arabic: chapter 6 sahih bukhari

I don't understand. Don't you guys see that you are trying to make sense of stuff that are just made up? God doesn't exist as put in Islam or any other religion. Muhammad just made those things up, no insult intended, but that is how I see it! The funny thing is that I don't want to be an Atheist, I am not a bad person. It would be really nice for me to know that I could go to heaven after I die. I tried praying and fasting, and doing everything I had to, but its not about that. It is a logical thing, you either believe or you don't. I get nightmares about dying all the time. But I cannot really believe god exists! 1400 years trying to make sense Hadith? Well if Mohammad invented the Quraan , good luck with working with what a million Muslims after him created.... The worst thing is that they even pick the hadithes to make sense ! OMG!

Faisal Saleem A million Muslims created the Hadith? Where are you getting this information from? Also, how did you arrive at the conclusion that God doesn't exist? Logic and human reason can also dictate that God can exist, so your conclusion is entirely subjective.

Faisal Saleem ...You don't want to be an atheist and you don't believe God. .That's is really funny..Are you an agnostic then..You get nightmares about dying?.. If when we die and all of these (Islam,Prophet Muhammad ) are all lies..and we never wake up again..that is fine with me However when we die and then we realise that all are true..Allah exist...Prophet Muhammad exist..and there you are.. standing before Allah ... Who will be in trouble?....YOU!

From someone who had the same life shaking doubts about Islam and who was leaning dangerously towards atheism, brother I would advice you to get of the internet and get away from everyone else Muslims and atheists alike, and isolate yourself and go into nature and just observe it watch it and reflect about it look at the intricacies of the ecosystems, how they are perfectly adapted for life, think about the rain that comes down, water is the main thing that plants need to live besides sunlight and for some reason it just falls from the sky 🙂and think about our planet ,we literally live on a floating ball in the middle of this infinitely massive universe, look at yourself and appreciate how much of a miracle your body is from your hands to your feet, think about the human brain, the eyes and all the other senses.... how could any of this have resulted from just a booom... I know my advice probably won't satisfy you but I feel like you owe it to yourself to at least think about it once again in isolation and come up with your own conclusions Salam alykum and May Allah guide you to the truth
