McCordsville man competes on new Netflix survival show; 'It was an otherworldly experience'

A lifelong Hancock County man pushed himself to countless limits as a contestant on the new Netflix series "Outlast." He tells Daniel Miller about his incredible experience.

Joel is a genuinely good human. It’s too bad that all the good humans got pushed out of this challenge by such trashy people who have no business being there. The whole “no rules” aspect of the show really went to people’s heads. It totally separated the good from the bad.

@@McMagpie I agree with you to some extent for sure, but the game really lost its integrity when Alpha camp went rogue, some people didn’t sign up for that and sometimes the right thing to do is walk away. Those two broads from Alpha were manipulative sociopaths, likely planted or encouraged by the show, almost appears fake

It was a survival show until about halfway through. After that, it was all about the worst part of human interaction. Greed, thievery, lying. deception, disrespect. One or two? Maybe. But it was all of those.

Everybody talks about the Alpha team, specially the women, when the man was not much better. But the guy who deserts the Delta team and the rejection of the best contestant ( Javier) by Charlie s members were very strategic and brutal decisions too.

I think because Jil and Amber were so extreme, they seemed to relish in it. I understand that the others did wrongdoing aswell. But they just kept going and going and it seemed like they were living on a different planet

I liked this guy. He seems level headed and a decent guy! Amber Jill and Justin are Despicable people! I was actually upset watching their terrible behaviour! Lord Of The Flies in real life!! Disturbing. I liked Javier the most. He seemed like a decent guy as well! Greed is a terrible thing. This show really showed that immensely 😮

But my friend rocked my world when he said that he recognized 2 of the guys from the winning team as like B class actors. Meaning they prob really did last on the island with the others but they were secretly given boost and the game was fixed for them to win. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Not my words but made me think. I did love the show and since there were no rules I wanted to jump on the screen and kick 🦵 those chicks butts for my buddy javir Can't wait for season 2

I agree with most on here about the show and the characters, but having grown up around survivalist types I could imagine this is exactly how it would go down when push comes to shove, seemingly well intentioned people turning nasty the second their comfort level is threatened! Takes a long time to see it

I enjoyed this show. I think many contestants didn't expect the competitive competition aspect. They thought it would solely be about survival. I wish the competition part of the show would have been removed. I enjoy these shows because I like watching people survive in the wild and learn new skills, not sabotage one another and fight like normal reality tv trash. The right people won but I would have preferred there to be no teams.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion but Alpha team did great. At the beginning they said it’s a survival competition- there were no rules! May not be happy with what she did but she successfully removed, what 3/4 people by simply removing sleeping bags. She didn’t win, imo a shame, but she gave a great show and kept me completely entertained.
