Here's a description and startup of my 1936 model 10-20. There's nothing like the roar of a straight piped gasoline engine on steel wheels.

Things like this were built to last forever unlike the expensive disposable junk that lasts no time we have today.

Oh the things that 10-30 will teach you. I first drove my Uncles 10-30 in summer of 1963, After I learned to get the spark just right; I could crank it w/o hurting myself. That was all 60 yrs ago, sure wish I had one now to “play with” congratulations on a great ol tractor ❤️👍

92 years old and still ticking! They don't make them like that anymore! Sweet video

This is Great! I just acquired a McCormick Deering (what I believe is a 10-20) tractor. It’s in a road grader chasis. Which I’m finding out is a conversion. I love this early motor grader from W.A. Riddell Co. (WARCO). Because of its 8 rear drive wheels, they called it “Octopus”. I can’t wait to start restoring it. Maybe you know of a shop that sells engine parts and/or rebuilds these old timers. Thanks for sharing this.

Great find, I've seen 10-20 motors used in graders before, you might be able to find references online. There aren't any shops I know that do rebuilds, but I did purchase a new fan belt and carburetor parts from a company called The Fordson House. Cheers

Never push down on a crank or wrap your thumb around it. If it kicks back, it will break your arm. Only pull up on the crank

This tractor, like many of this era (1930s and earlier), has a manual spark advancement lever. If everything is put together properly and the spark is set to "retarded", the magneto will only fire after top dead center to ensure the engine will only rotate forward. If the spark is advanced, which is possible if the operator is not paying attention or the magneto is incorrectly aligned, it will kick back and cause harm as you say.

Hello. Love the video. I haven't seen many around with the choke rod at the front of radiator. What year did this come out ? I have one just like yours but can't find out a way to date the tractor. The rest of the rear facing chokes are earlier models. 1920s etc. I think the front choke came in the mid to late 30s but wondered if you knew more about it. I'm in australia. Cheers

I don't know when the front choke came about. Aside from serial numbers, I've dated them by the style of shift lever (early ones had a knob on top instead of straight stick) and whether or not the McCormick logo is cast into the rad or added with an aluminum tag (later ones). Cheers from Canada

@@castironmachines figures put mine was 1938. Aluminium mccormick deering plate on radiator front. One throttle lever.. just a right angled rod fir a handle. Turn it down to the right to go up or down.

@@stormunitleader40 Funny, I have the double rod with spark and throttle control. Twisting to the right advances spark and speeds up the engine too.

Nice original tractor and only spoiled by the modified front wheels. There appears to be a connector missing between the air cleaner and carburettor. Probably not all that important if the tractor is not going to be worked.
@castironmachines2 жыл бұрын
That is true, the old hose had been burnt from the heat of the manifold and began to fall apart, so I removed it. I'd like to find original front wheels for it some day

great machine..and why aren't more filters built to be reused?
@adjustablehammer37494 жыл бұрын
Because then they wouldn't make any money selling filters it's the same with oil bath air cleaners

You are going to brake your hand or arm if you crank it like that... Do it like Darrell said just watching out for you. Nice10-20 i just got one myself i will have a video up soon
@castironmachines3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate it Chrissy but there is no reason for the engine to back-fire with everything set as it is supposed to be. As they wear and tolerances change, it will need to be re-timed to make sure the spark adjustment lever is still accurate. I suppose that I might as well be on the safe side and crank it as you and Darrell mention, but I have confidence in my adjustments. Looking forward to your vid, cheers
