It's not really that complicated. Self-ordering stations maximize user-friendliness, employee PoS machines maximize speed. Sure, there are other UX issues here (like mixing buttons for adding items with buttons for modifying existing items, or some menus being seemingly randomly arranged), but the main point is that everything is presented all at once - it's unintuitive for someone looking at it for the first time, but an employee that does this for 8 hours a day can punch out everything in seconds, without having to move between nested tabs of meal categories and going through 3 confirmation prompts.

the self ordering kiosk is such a big help, it speeds up the process. the only slow point is in receiving because some customers don't get their tray of meals right away when called, causing the server to shout the number louder.

Worked at McDonald’s for 6 years in my late teens/early twentys and it is not as easy a job as people think. Long days dealing with customers, constantly standing and talking all day. @@juicyraspberries It depends. In this case, the girl covered most of the drink price so it wasn't technically free, a manager probably wouldn't get really annoyed over that. It also depends on where you work, if the managers are chill or not. A lot of times we'll make extra drinks or ice cream by mistake and just give it away to a random person instead of throwing it away, managers are fine with that. Only time managers would get annoyed is if someone wants an extra topping on their food but you don't upcharge them for cause that's what you have to do. Overall they don't really get mad over free stuff if it's something small like this.

Your manager expects you to stay at the register waiting for that customer to come back when its short staffed and they just put the order on the counter without even calling it out or helping u do the ice creams

The one thing I hate about customers are the ones who order with me, I send the order in, about to take payment for them to tell me they have a code or a coupon. x...x Like why didn't you tell me that before?!

Now that one was a busy lunch rush. Usually here in NY you see more of that rush on drive thru these days rather than being in the store....especially on the dinner rush from 6-8p where you can get like 7-12 cars back even with the double lane drive thru. I have had usually faster luck staying in the drive thru than going inside even with that many cars.

Seems like it was a McDonalds close to a school so that's why it was busy inside. I remember the McDonalds at my highschool was a zoo at lunch time lol.

as a software engineer this video is hard for me to watch lol. why does the PoS look so unintuitive and outdated? literally one of the primary parts of their job and it looks like shit to use lol. they could easy make this 100% more efficient for everyone if they just updated it to something modern.

There's no point, the long-term strategy is to get customers to order themselves using touchscreens or the app, so they don't have a cashier taking orders.
