I was privileged to do a walk around of the B-52 that took Gen. Chuck Yeager aloft for his first successful record breaking flight. (Edwards AFB, ca 1988) Something I'll never forget...... Thank you, USAF!!!!

I have seen many pilots come in and land the airplane improperly and the airplane bouncing after touchdown. I was scared at first when I flew on the bombers, but learned to trust the pilots skills after several landings.

Too bad the J-57 engine didn't have thrust reverse. Would've been a much smoother and shorter roll out and no need for drag chutes until the later TF-33 fan engine came out. But the B-52 was a mighty fine airplane for so many decades. The old saying, "if it ain't a Boeing, it ain't going."

Quick math, 1956 + pilots are 56 = pilots born in 1926. Given 2022, pilots age today is 96!

That is the chin radome housing the radar antenna. There is another radome just forward of the windshield. The lower antenna is for terrain, weather and targeting. It can rotate in a circle for weather or sweep side to side for terrain following. You can actually feel it bang through the floor when it sweeps side to side.
