The Bat Family isn't complete without Batgirl. Will this new Batgirl release be a great new addition or will it simply be another mediocre release relying on character recognition?

I don't want to impose my opinion on your content but I prefer watching you review McFarlane Toys rather than Hasbro's Legends because at least in McFarlane Toys there are many things to point out while with Marvel Legends you feel every figure is the same one every time. I really appreciate your reviews, they really prevent me from buying whatever figure I think it's worth the money, which in my case I really have to decide carefully. Looking forward to see you reviewing The Batman movie figures (but I guess only you know if you'll review them or not, since you don't do movie figures, at least in the case of Marvel)

His reviews have prevented me from buying basically every modern McFarlane figures save a couple of spawn ones. I do too appreciate his ML reviews though. They're very harsh, so when he recommends something and I end up picking it up, I'm never disappointed; even if I'm not into the character, the figure itself is worth collecting.

IIRC, Todd explained in a stream that the side eyes are a deliberate choice because he felt that any figure with eyes forward looked lifeless. Feedback was bad (especially with the Pattinson Batman figures, I think) so they'll be dropping that going forward.

I could ignore the negatives of this figure if the eyes looked straight forward, and she had solid muscle definition. I could even ignore the giant ankle joints if the rest of her body had the sculpt to make her look like the badass she's supposed to be.

I think this and the Batman from the same wave are 7/10. I don’t mind some of the quirks and weird decisions. Especially at this price point. It’s definitely better than Marvel legends at the same price point. And it looks more adult collector than ML. I think the engineering and design decisions just annoy you more than most people. But i can understand the frustration since some of the flaws are easily avoidable.

@@keonscinist2333 fair enough. Yea i meant just the overall ideology of the two lines. While mcfarlane is lacking on accessories articulation and variation in the line. It’s just awesome to see unique molds that are specific to the characters references. Even if not always 100% accurate. To me it makes the ML line look like “toys” rather that collectibles. Plus there’s sooo much reuse
@arthurchen6464
@arthurchen6464 2 жыл бұрын
@@keonscinist2333 Imo there has to be a happy medium between the ML molds and what Todd's doing with his figures. The McFarlane figures are so formless and bloblike with no real muscle definition, while the ML bucks are just 0% fat Mr. and Ms. Olympias. Back when Mattel debuted the prototypes for their DC Multiverse line, I thought we've found our perfect balance. The figures have the perfect musculature: in shape, with good muscle tone, but not absolutely ripped. But then the production figures came out and they're just absolute shit.

This line peaked early with the Sean Murphy/White Knight Batman and especially Azrael figures. Not only did they actually resemble the source material but they had mostly functional (if a bit ugly) articulation and some paint for once lol I dunno what happened to McFarlane Toys ever since this modern “super articulation” sort of rebrand, it’s like they forgot how to sculpt or engineer action figures all of a sudden when they’ve made well sculpted and even articulated figures before this despite popular belief, very bizarre.

The import and boutique toy industry is absolutely destroying the mainstream companies in terms of collectability. Sure, you might pay two or three times more for an import or boutique figure, but at the same time, I'm not sure that if Hasbro or McFarlane started making $50 figures that the product would be that much better, not when you consider that they don't even do well with basic proportional sculpting. How is a professional toy sculptor getting leg proportions that wrong? How are they doing these ridiculous toe joints? Why the stupid trigger fingers? The side eye? The clunky grapple gun that looks Fisher-Price? It doesn't extra to do these things correctly, so I have to assume that they just don't care to do better. I guess for some people that's good enough? I just don't get who is buying these or why.

From what I have seen Todd McFarlane say in a few interviews, he is mainly marketing toward kids who, he thinks, won’t care. Todd’s main concern seems to be, that as long as his team and himself think the figures look “cool” the toys will sell

For the eyes, I was thinking if that was made of a different material like a magnet so we could use a separate magnet to move the eyes. Could have a lot of fun posing because eye contact while posing naturally with other figures is something which could become easier if that gets implemented. Also it's a win win situation for people who like side eyes & neutral eyes.

The problem with McFarlane's torso articulation is because the whole ball peg is buried deep and enclosed in the socket, that's why it is impeded. The socket should have a 25 degree opening for the ball peg to move around it. It's a simple engineering problem, they can't seem to figure.

The legs are long because they reused the legs from their other Batgirl which has a longer torso. I still got her because I'm a fan of Barbara Batgirl; one of the few figs that I bought for just the character. With the way this line is going, I'm going to limit my purchases of DC figs, even though I'm a big fan of DC. Hopefully he loses the license or ....a long shot... improves. I still can't believe that his DC line is being botched so badly, when he has been doing toy figures for decades now.

@@BatFan1 Botched- scale of their figures are all over the place, out of scale accessories, cheaping out on paints, etc. Top selling doesn't necessarily mean quality. Sure they have a couple of good/decent figures that I've bought, but they have also had crappy ones. At the end of the day, each customer can buy or not buy his toyline. I'll be cherry picking the line and wont buy blindly. Funny thing is that his other lines havent been bad, especially the Warhammer one. As for NPD, it's a market research company, so their rating means nothing to me. It's another JD Power company for toys.

@@Victor-mc1sz the name of the game is sales. theyre selling. that's all that matters to WB. Todd is making them money which in turn makes him money. They're not a KO company that dont take quality into consideration. If you think they dont care about details you're mistaken. If his figures didnt sell WB would notice. Collector nitpicks are just that. In the end they're not import figures that have "better quality" and even have their issues.

If Bandai make this plastic model it would be perfect. They have already Batman Figure-Rise and Darth Vader there are quite good. If you want it perfect I recommend to buy Model kit and airbrush with it. For me its satisfied when I finish the whole process. Those figure action they put less effort and make dozen of these them and put it on the market I get it some people want to use for display and never touch it again but In my opinion, the factor put more effort but it will cost more for that

@anthonyscustoms I'm sure you've heard this before but watching your reviews is very reminiscent of a proper art critique.(at least on a technical level) and I think that most things that you point out in these figure reviews the average person won't see until you point it out or they wouldn't get the big deal unless they're an artist themselves. I just recently got that black suit mafex Superman and while it is a nice looking figure I can't help but to notice the long lower legs. It's less noticeable once you change to the silver boots but if you're into the arts (you'll notice on a technical level you'll notice.) I guess I'm saying this to say, while you make valid points in your reviews not much will change, just off of the simple fact that most consumers of these figures won't notice the flaws that you notice on these figures.

I literally got a Bat Girl from the old DC collectibles line and it look better than this. I've only got the Batman Year Two from McFarlane so far, mainly because I just wanted a classic grey/blue Batman and the Essentials Knightfall Batman is not worth the price now. When I look at the latest Mafex Hush figures, it's hard to collect these. Personally I feel that DC never really nailed the 7" figures. Used to love the DC Icons line and I do miss them. My last hope for them is the Batman TAS line. If they mess this up, I give up on them.

Initially when this line began I was all for it. Todd McFarlane making figures for dc, he would do justice to comic characters I thought. I was wrong, as figures released I became less and less impressed. As great as the details can be in those figures all I could ever do with them is stand them straight and do something with their hands. Eventually I gave my figures away. I would rather buy mafex knowing it's worth the price then thinking these cheaper ones are "just as good"
