Asking Macfarlane for articulation is like pulling teeth. These figures would’ve been great 5-8 years ago. They seem a bit average for 2020. Details are a bit flat and choices of articulation are a bit dated.

Todd McFarlane did an interview with Jay C where he admitted that there was a lot of experimentation with the first wave, and that they're waiting to hear from fans what worked and what didn't. His justification for the single elbows on Superman is that his biceps are much bigger than Batman's. But that is clearly not what fans want.

I think the answer is an overwhelming didn't work. This line is camping out on the hangers like Rose Tico figures, not moving at all. I will get these 2 maybe on clearance.

Couldn’t agree more when it comes to inconsistency of this line. I feel like as part of the same line- if you have all the figures together they should look -right- together. I’m also really mad they went with a 7inch scale as opposed to a 6 inch. Still can’t find a DC line that is comparable to Legends(and with QUALITY!)

DC Essentials has been improving in recent times, and while they are slightly bigger than Legends scale, they're actually close enough to where you can fudge it. Their recent Red Hood and Nightwing figures are really good, for example.

The design of the Batman is based on his recent outfit he gets back in the recent comics. Also the head on Batman was trying to get the Jim Lee look but in my opinion failed and looks nothing like Jim Lee's artwork. Also Superman's outfit is recent too since he gets the classic costume once he merges with his New 52 part being complete which the wrist details is a throw back from what he had on his DC rebirth outfit

The same can be said for the whole line. The figures aren't meant to gel perfectly with each other, they each "try" to represent their own source material.

I thought the head was supposed to capture Greg Capullo's art. It looks a lot like those cartoonish, rectangular, grumpy cat looking Capullo DC Collectibles Batman figures. Not a fan of their Batman at all, uhhhhh. But apparently, a lot of ppl love it. I mean, they wouldn't have made _soooo_ many of them figures if they didn't.

@@Chalor. The card artwork isn't Greg Capullo's art work. It's Jim Lee's art but yeah the figure haves odd proportions. So idk why people like this Batman so much I can understand the Superman but the Batman is weird.

I'm a 7 inch 1/10 collector so I'm for it, but so far I only like this Superman. The armors look cool but I have enough stuff that I do want to collect to add some random stuff I don't care for just because they look cool. And I still don't get the point of the build a hotwheels batmoblie, that I don't think will make it to wave 2 of this collection.

Thanks Robo, been waiting for your take on this line. I was so excited for this line. I really wanted it to be the DC equivalent to Marvel Legends. But when I saw the product shots- I was disappointed, though I couldn't quite explain why. But I think you hit it right on the head when you said "Inconsistent." I think this perfectly describes how I feel about the line. There seems to be some inconsistencies in, molding, articulation, paint apps, and overall aesthetic. Even these two figure appear as if they could be from 2 different lines... For a line to be successful there needs to be an unifying aesthetic (even between comic and movie versions) Marvel legends does this very well and even Mattel's DC line accomplished this. Simply put, they lack that unifying quality that other line have achieved. Maybe they will hit their stride in the next wave. Keep up the good work Robo.

I bought the Superman last week and was really happy with how it looks and the inclusion of the flight stand. The Batman figure at my local Walmart are all messed up with paint issues and the ears on the cowl looking crooked so I am going to hold off on that.

I had some beef with the scale in my head at first, but when i think about it, MOTU Classics are 7 inch scale, most NECA stuff, there's enough great stuff out there that these would go well with. I do like the presentation, articulation, and the aesthetic. I was already sold on Unchained Supes and HellBat Armor, so I'm already part way into this line. This seems like a line worth getting into the more I think about it. Hopefully it's successful enough to get a good depth of characters over time.

I totally agree with you on these figs about the scale and inconsistency. McFarlane continues to have quality control issues. I couldn't care less about additional accessories like a gun or a bent piece of steel...I want more hands! Fists for Batman and an additional one for Superman, would have jumped the ratings of this figs a lot more. I'm still on board with this figs and currently waiting for my order of the others.

That’s the problem with having each figure being from different references. DC Direct/DC Collectibles could get away with it. I don’t know if McFarlane will be able to do it for long.

i am loving this line, i only have mecha superman and batman but im definitely getting the batman who laughs. i love 7 inch scale figures too, i mean a tall figure with decent articulation, great detail and for only $20 i cant complain. Im so excited to see the next wave that comes out. i just hope we can get a huge, buff bane from the city of bane comics.

I really like the cape design on batman, very Spawn like design. Looks really cool and different than what I'm use to for batman. The cape is really to me a sneak preview on how his Spawn figures are going to look, can't wait to see fully articulated Spawn figures. Also I like the articulation better on the batman than the superman figure in this video.

Reminds me of marvel legends first wave. Just trying different things with each figure and seeing what sticks. It’s not perfect but it’s a start for Dc to finally have decent figures with upgraded articulation, proportions, sculpt, and paint at a cheaper price.

McFarlane seems to like to do their own thing, damn what anybody else is doing! Every collector I've seen has been kinda wishy washy on this line. If they had gone 6 inch scale I think we'd all be a lot more lenient on them. As is, I'm looking forward to Mafex's Hush line for my DC guys.

Saw 3 of the Batman figure on the pegs but I just couldn't pull the trigger on it. Just looks awful to me. Bought the Superman and it's just ok. Also one fist for the left hand but none for the right? Here's hoping the Mafex Superman finally gives me a definitive Supes for my shelf.

Don't pass on this inaugural release of this line. With this initial release, I do believe Mcfarlane toys will build better figures from our feedback. Been a longtime fan of his artwork and Spawn merch. This line will have better releases down the road, wait until you see them in person

I think people are completely forgetting these are $20 figures and are not in the same category as mafex and other collector lines...for $20 these are solid figures. I'll be picking them up along with Nightwing. Excited to see what McFarlane has in store for the future.

I think, replace the plastic with cloth cape. Give batman a new head thats also bigger. It's a great pair. I'm sad over batman but with how nice lot's of other figures are, a bit of custom work is worth it. Can't wait for the blue variant I'm waiting for the pre order still tho

The nose part of the coals don’t cover the noses completely on “issue #1000” or the Arkham Asylum figure for some stupid reason. Their creative liberties kind of went a bit pear shaped with this line.

I like the McFarlane Fortnite and Mortal Kombat figures, but these DC figures are a miss for me. I have seen these at retail, and there are some quality control issues. The 3 Superman I saw all had the leg bent sideways at the left knee. A few had some sloppy apps. I am hoping the next wave is better. Harley Quinn looks good, but the height just kills it for me. Maybe I am being nit picky, but with so many figures coming out, I don't have the funds for meh figures.

The figures are based on recent costumes, and they are both based on the Jim Lee covers of that so yeah they bought the trunks back for both.

These are really disappointing to me. No alt hands for Batman. Why no fists. The head for Batman is too small. I wish we had more muscle definition on the bodies.

I had seen this Batman, Animated Batman, and Green Lantern at Walmart the other day. From an appearance standpoint, I think they're fine. But the scale.......why?!? Scale it to 6" to match the Mattel figures that have been made (still a shame they went off the rails years ago with the line but still would have an odd figure here and there that was good) and Hasbro Marvel Legends. Unless they have an oversized figure that fits in with what I have (and the oversize works), I don't see myself getting them.

From McFarlane's recent interview it looks like they're trying out a lot of stuff to see what works and what collectors respond to. Hopefully they'll build on these criticisms and come out with stronger product for wave two or three. I like they've taken cues from some of the Japanese companies with the articulation, just need to refine it.

I think the scale is perfect since ML scale is imperfect. I want my superman and batman to tower over the normal marvel characters and the fact that's he lines up with Thor is icing. My perfect superman tho is the mafex hush at McFarlanes scale.

Okay, fun notes to add in for my own opinion. That thinner Batman you had with Alfred, isn't Bruce, it's Dick Grayson as Batman (during the Bruce Wayne RIP storyline), so... I think it still kinda works. Dick is only 5'11" compared to Superman's 6'3" ish. For me, once I saw that Superman on the shelf, I needed it. Batman, I agree, I'm not a fan of the small head and if you want a draping cape it needs to be cloth so it doesn't hurt the articulation. As for Superman's single join elbow, I heard it was to help with the bicep sculpt. So for me, Superman is a MUST, Batman is a pass. Can't wait for them to release that Nightwing figure.

if you want a good headsculpt for batman. i suggest the dc designer series greg capullo batman as it looks good on figure or the greg capullo gcpd batman as it fits with the look of the body

I dont collect DC figs, but these figs look great. But I am not a fan of plastic capes. Supes looks easy enough to customize him with a cloth cape. Bats looks more challenging.

I was so disappointed with the initial release shots for this batman and was sad cause I really just want a good batman figure. Idk why that's so hard to ask for, finally cracked and decided to buy the batman one from Walmart and I gotta say he's not bad. This is my fourth batman figure and overall he has the best articulation. Aesthetically tho I prefer my last rites batman

Agreed with the inconsistency, but I REALLY like the Superman. His colors pop on the shelf and I love the way they did his trunks. All the other Supermans either have them broken up with the upper thighs painted or they look like a thong (NECA). Yeah his articulation isn't perfect but overall I can't think of a better Superman. Batman is decent but one thing you didn't touch on, his feet are HUGE and that really throws me off with him

i really wanted to like this line and i had pre ordered batman / superman animated with superman comic version but all the reviews came out and they were so out of scale it was just sad. green lantern animated was larger than batman and superman and had bigger head. Then comic book harley has animated face and is as tall as batman and superman. i had to cancel my pre order.

Superman was based on Jim Lee's action comics #1000, but I think the head looks more like Ivan Reis's art.
