In order to truly appreciate the natural progression of the band and their music I think you should start from their First album and work your way forwards from there, and definately include the B-Sides and Rarities as well as The Lost Songs.

I really would have to advise you to listen to the albums in order of release as it would give you a sense of how the band evolved over time, so in order it’s ‘Room on the third floor’ - ‘wonderland’ - ‘motion in the ocean’ - ‘radio:active’ - ‘above the noise’ - ‘the lost songs’ - ‘young dumb thrills’

Note that the ‘lost songs’ album was an unfinished album that got lost over their 3 year hiatus after forming a supergroup called Mcbusted with busted. So if you think they lack something it was because of the fact that they were unfinished

This is one of my favorite songs from them, and I even have a tattoo (my first tattoo ever) with the tittle of the song on my ribs. This song is their anthem, as in the concerts they repeat the bridge and change the lyrics to "IT'S NOT ALWAYS EASY, BUT MCFLY'S HERE FOREVERRRR!!!" - and here's where we'll cry xD! I would recommend starting from the first album. I feel going backwards for One Direction worked because they weren't really involved with the writing from the beginning, but Danny and Tom were writing from the start. It will likely be fine either way, but I feel Above the Noise makes more sense when really getting that it was the 5th album and them feeling like they needed to do something different. I also feel like The Lost Songs really stand out if they follow Above the Noise. I would also say go into Above the Noise with the idea that you will probably like some songs and probably dislike some because this is easily the album that is furthest from their sound, but it does include Shine a Light (one of their best songs in my opinion, though the more rock version is better). Above the Noise for me is like Louis Tomlinson's first solo songs in that they weren't really his style even though he sounded good on them and I like them lyrically.

Once you've done a lot more of their music you should check out Tom's wedding speech again and you'll appreciate it a lot more because the whole thing is a bunch of their songs strung together but most of the lyrics changed to suit a wedding speech.

This is my all time favorite song from McFly. I love that you are enjoying their music. In terms of which albums you should react to i would say all just start by their newest album up until how it all began. You should also check out Transylvania live version on the Royal Albert hall.
