Red is good , red annelids on a TMC-200R #22 are killer on the Juan. I’ve also done well on the Bighorn in April and May with them and a red serendipity . Thanks for the video

@@McFlyAngler yes things are starting to freeze up pretty good now. Time for lots of fly tying until spring.

LOL! I would trade you honestly! I miss the cold. In the summer here it is unbearable. 100+ degrees many days, and the humidity is very high so its muggy. Id far rather cold.

Have you tried a variety with a tufted of white antron or similar stuff at the head to simulate an air bubble

You could totally do that, I haven’t yet, but I’m sure it would work great.

I tied one of those up right when video went up, with a normal similar hook, and i went to my local river and got a gorgeous 17” brown!! Thanks for the tie!! Also a question, have you used foam wings for regular dry flies? Ive tied them and have had just as much success as my other dries, and they dont sink ever.
@McFlyAngler3 жыл бұрын
Oh awesome! That was quick man! It was live this morning! Haha! Your a quick tier and fisherman! Lol! As for foam wings, I’ve tied lots of flies with foam. Hoppers, ants, etc. as for a wing, a common pattern that kinda uses that technique is the sprite. Basically it’s a parachute post with foam….
@michiganfisher92533 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah! I got a few more on that fly and a couple on zebras. And yeah, i like the foam, ill tie some of your foam hoppers up as soon as i can!

@@McFlyAngler sweet! I may have to run down the road to Risen Fly and get some materials to try and make some of these flies. I need easy ones to start out with lol. I have never tried to tie flies before. San Juan Worms are going to be the other ones i will try to tie first.
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s a great place to get stuff. Good luck! I would say these are somewhat easy but probably more difficult than they look. I’d start with a San Juan worm or zebra midge. Work your way up to this.
@jeffjackson53312 жыл бұрын
@@McFlyAngler yeah i am going to start with the San Juan Worm first for sure. I already went over to the shop and picked up what i needed to tie those. I will probably eventually try to tie this one you showed us in this video.
@McFlyAngler2 жыл бұрын
Yeah give it a try for sure. So you got a vise also? If you don’t mind me asking which vise did you pick up? And how do you like it? If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.
@loganpeterson97063 жыл бұрын
Using different materials to tie a common pattern doesn't make it your own pattern. Please call it what is is -- a variant of Matt McCannel's Demon Midge. Something sold pretty much in every fly shop in Colorado that you definitely would've came across living and fishing in Colorado.
@McFlyAngler3 жыл бұрын
Well it was good enough for a fly distributor to take it as a new pattern. And while the end result might look similar, it is a different pattern. The ribbing made by the tubing, flashiness of the flashabou, and the way it’s tied is totally different. I wonder if you call a wooly bugger the same thing as a wooly worm? Or a purple haze the same as a parachute adams, black beauty and zebra midge, heck, any midge fly, streamer, etc can be said it’s “similar” to another. Don’t be that person bro. Have a nice day.
@michiganfisher92533 жыл бұрын
Some people just want to complain. Lmao.
@McFlyAngler3 жыл бұрын
Seriously, I mean its expected online. You always get hacklers trying to either be funny or prove how knowledgeable they are. Its alright, kinda comes along with the territory of posting videos online. Luckily, the vast majority of my viewers are good people and appreciate the videos.
@loganpeterson97063 жыл бұрын
@@McFlyAngler The wolly worm pays homage to the original fly in the name. Andy Carlson, who invented the "purple haze" never even gave it that name. He just called it a purple parachute adams and the nickname was given to the fly at shops where it became popular. The same reason why a zebra midge comes in many colors, but all of them are still called a "red" or "olive" zebra midge. Also going to "be that guy" because you tie it on the same hook used for the demon midge, and the demon midge is also tied with flashabou -- they say if it looks and quacks like a duck...
@josephgiovannini74893 жыл бұрын
This is very unfair comment. The tying process and body construction are totally different. Yes they both are tied on a red hook; so are numerous other patterns. The finished flies may appear similar at a glance, but again so do many size #20 red annelid patterns.
