Nice review, Nigel. You get a gorgeous warm tone on that horn! I would definitely like to try one myself…..but I’m on the other side of the Atlantic. (Haha) so I will wait until til they come my way. But definitely on my radar!

Thank you for the review. I really appreciate you playing some long tones so we can truly hear how the sax sounds. In a lot of demos they try and show how fast they can play, which does nothing for me.

I just got one of these (the unlacquered alto) and love it. I'd add the following practicality about the case: with my other instruments I've been in the habit of storing a fair amount of extra gear in the inside compartment: extra reeds, swabs, cork grease, alternate mouthpiece, deflector, and even a Bluetooth speaker for busking with backing tracks. The Atlantic case, while sleek and attractive, has one downside: the neck compartment has room for a single mouthpiece, maybe a couple spare reeds, and that's pretty much it. Thus, adaptations are needed for all except true minimalists. I ended up getting a medium toiletry bag for my other stuff and attaching it to one of the provided carabiners which seems to be working well so far.

Thanks for sharing. That's a good point about the case. But, it's a nice case right! Glad you're enjoying your new horn and thanks for watching.

Good afternoon nice looking and sounding horn. Could you please tell me if they have adjustment screws on the right and left hand stacks. Thanks in advance. I once read Sirvalor Said saying he would never buy a sax without the high F sharp key. I usually add also the adjustment screws to that phrase.

Weight?
@Jay..potter..867 ай бұрын
How does it go up against the big bell? Im in 2 minds as i am a firm believer in. If it looks so good, you can't walk past it without blowing it, then it's the right horn for you. I love the amber finish, also the ruby red finish of the stone series.
@McGillMusicSaxSchool7 ай бұрын
Good question. I’d be interested to hear a comparison 👍
@ketong7112 күн бұрын
I saw this video before and I just re-watched it as I am looking for an affordable pro-level tenor saxophone. I'd rather get a brand new one vs a good used tenor because I'd like to be the one who breaks in the sax and not have to worry about taking the sax to a tech to have it regulated and adjusted when I get it. Just a little quirk that I have. That does sound great. If i were to get one today, I'd go for the Vintage Amber. That's just my preference. @McGillMusicSaxSchool, is this sax included in the contention of replacing your Guardala Tenor Sax? Have you come with the final candidates, yet? 🙂
@pimeye7 ай бұрын
Great review and now I'm really thinking of getting one. A couple of things, do both the horns feel the same weight or is one finish heavier than the other? Also, did I see that some scratches had already appeared on the side of the case with the grab handles, or were those artefacts?
@McGillMusicSaxSchool7 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. Both Saxes feel the same weight. Also the cases have the plastic wrapping still on them which is what I think you can see (not scratches). Thanks for watching. 👍🎷

Love the case but what I need to know is how does it compares to a Cannonball A4 ? Have the money to buy but I just can’t decide between the 2

I'm undecided between getting the Atlantic or the Signature Custom RAW. Is the RAW much heavier than a MkVI?
@gib3217 ай бұрын
@@pimeye I'm not sure of the weight of a MKVI however the SC Raw weighs 3.6 kgs. which I believe is quite a heavy instrument if that is a consideration.

The intonation in the upper registers is really bad! I'm surprised you didn't notice that. Obviously, if you had more time playing it you could probably improve it with your embouchure but a lot of beginner sax players don't know how to do that.
@pimeye7 ай бұрын
It seemed less obvious on the amber lacquer horn.
@benhostetler2687 ай бұрын
The Amber Lacquer is the best looking. I’m disappointed with this horn though the keywork is the standard SA80II keywork that is part of the base package at these Taiwanese factories. The body is another big bell like Cannonball, Eastman, and P Mauriat. I was really hoping for a more original offering beyond just a cool engraving and wire key guards.
@McGillMusicSaxSchool7 ай бұрын
Personally I think it plays better than some of the Mauriat horns and the setup on the ones I had was excellent. Have a play of one if you get the chance.
@AtlanticSaxophones7 ай бұрын
Hi Ben, Thank you for your feedback! We explored various key concepts during the prototype phase, but most players preferred the classic Selmer Paris design. Therefore, we focused on refining the setup to surpass other Taiwanese models. We also experimented extensively with different necks, bells, and bores to achieve the desired sound. I hope you get a chance to try one out! All the best 🎷

Is there a SYOS mouthpiece that you think has that "Guardala feel" to it?
