McGregor vs Mendes is the most underrated Conor fight. It's probably my favorite ufc ppv because of Lawler vs Macdonald beforehand and because it was supposed to be McGregor vs Aldo, the ufc had gone all out. Apparently the walkouts and production was pretty expensive because they never did it again. Sinead O'Connor sang foggy dew live above Conor as he walked out and they filled the octagon with fog. They also used the canvas as a projector screen showing Conor's face with the 🇮🇪 and Chad with the 🇺🇸 it was next level production. Some country singer did Chad's walkout. Ufc 189 was a special event

The fact that McGregor was only 26 at this time and only 28 when he defeated Aldo... blows my mind. I'm doing this life thing all wrong..

Conor practiced that back kick a lot for this fight specifically, haven't seen him use it much since in later fights.. nice weapon tho

0:14 might be the most weirdly wholesome conor mc gregor moment ever. He's pretty much just a kid going into this fight thats presumably never been to nyc before, having grown up dirt poor in dublin, and he's just amazed to be there

looking back, all of this was just game-changing for the UFC and combat sports in general. Both McGregor and Mendes are incredibly hungry, passionate and likable guys at this point in their careers. They'd both kill for that belt and (even Mendes at 3 weeks out) are giving it their all in the leadup. The fight delivered. Mendes was one of Conor's hardest fights, and that's something given the short notice. What a show.

What a moment in sports history...It must have felt amazing being in that arena and feeling the energy of so many people rooting for one man to become the best ever. It's just crazy to say I live at the same time in history as Artem Lobov.

Honestly, other than the obvious Nate, Khabib, and Dustin losses, his fight against Mendez was the toughest one he’d ever had, and especially up to this point in his career when no one had the answers for him. chad come out and was really impressive against him.
