McGregor was fun to watch, but he had massive holes in his game. Mendes exposed these holes, and Conor had no real answers on the ground... sadly for Mendes he made the mistake of allowing Conor back on his feet. Khabib had the discipline not to make this mistake and we witnessed the end result. MMA is really about being a complete all-round fighter and McGregor was not in that bracket. (unfortunately because as a fan he was great to watch)

The only reason you feel its stopped early is because he didn't take as many ground and pound shots as usual to finish a match. You gotta keep in mind Mendes looked exhausted the second he came off the ground, barely defending himself standing up. Herb Dean made a good call stopping the fight before any unnecessary damage was done.

This is the perfect example of gas tank management. Chad thought the round was close enough to over to where he could use up the rest of his gas to maybe get a 10/8 round or a finish then Conor ready for his chance explodes and scrambles to his feet with plenty of air and realizes quick Chad has zero gas left and calmly picks him apart for the finish, amazing fight IQ from Conor.

I really dislike when these fights go to the ground. I know it is obviously within the rules, but when fighters continually go for the take down, it tells me they are scared of standing toe to toe and are not legitimate fighters. Just my opinion as I'd rather watch the fighters' trade punches, kicks, and elbows. Far more entertaining.

idk if we watched the same fight. mendez was putting a pace on conor after taking him down and striking constantly. the only times he wasn’t was when he was being held in conor’s guard which was something even khabib had trouble posturing up in during certain moments. mendez even cut conor and busted him up with elbows multiple times in the first.

To the ref that is a submissive position and warrants a stoppage no matter how much time is left.

Yeah man..They stopped this at like the 3 second mark.....doesn't really seem fair at that point. 1 more round to really prove it for me. Although referee probably thought it was 3 to 5 seconds too unsafe to continue.

@@waynefoote3781 You have to defend yourself, if you are not making any attempt at all to improve your position or defend yourself then it is the ref's responsibility to save you. It isn't the ref's job to watch the clock.

Great fight. Upsetting finish. Not because McGregor won but because Mendes put such a hurting on McGregor and then couldn’t take the shots. He had this fight but couldn’t seal it. Amazing fight though.
