Interestingly enough, although I never met any LCDR's like McHale there were plenty of PO1's who were on their last enlistment knowing that they'd never make Chief that were representative of McHale's attitude.

Such a beautiful boat. Look at that thing plane in the opening. That's THREE Packard 3A-2500 gasoline engines, for a total of 2700 to 3600 horsepower. The boats could do 40-43 knots (unstepped planing hull). Boy I bet thing burned through fuel.

An Elco 80 ( like PT 109) carried 3000 gallons of high octane gasoline. At cruising speed of 23 knots the Elco 80 had about 12 hours of running time. Crank the boat up to max speed of 40 knots and the boat had 6 hours of running time. I have no idea what the chase boat used in the opening of McHales Navy was poqered with or how much fuel she carried. I think that is a British design Vosper 72 footer. Elco boat works Bayonne NJ made the coolest PTs

Happy sure lost a lot of weight between season 1 and 2...can't do much about hair but he got with it and into shape...as we know he went on to be a Captain himself ...Love Boat soon will be making another run...Love boat...this episode might be why he got the Love boat show...

Yes, I think this episode of McHale's Navy was done while Shelia James "Zelda" was still working somewhere around the end of the last season of Dobie Gillis or just a few months after the last episode of Dobie Gillis. I'm not exactly sure which. "Lt. Anne Wright" Lois Roberts is a real smoking hot chick, but sadly, I can't find her photos anywhere on line. Just a little info about her. Birth date where she's from, some shows/movies she did, but that's about it.
