Ok I understand now. Back when this video was done the routing was being done by the Domain Controller which was 192.168.1.1. We have since than changed that so there are dedicated routers rather than using Domain Controller or servers for the routers. So 192.168.1.1 was the gateway, DNS Server and router in this video. We have stopping doing this way so a gateway will always be a gateway and nothing else which should make it less confusing in later videos. Glad to hear you like the videos.

It would be considered to be a separate tree in the same forest. The root domain is the root domain. If it has sub domains that are part of the same tree these are child domains. If you watch the trust video it will make more sense. Trees are connected by different trust type than sub domains. So the two domains you talk about are connected by a tree trust.

@meowmastr123 No they are the same. The only time where security may be different is when you use a different trust, like NT style trust or a realm trust. A realm trust it depends on which settings you choose. Hopefully in a 2-3 weeks we should have a video covering trusts in more detail.

Which video are you referring to? I am guessing the DNS server should be 192.168.2.2 or 127.0.0.1 but I am not sure until I see the video. Since the gateway is a DNS server it is possible it was configured that way if the server was not in the domain, however this is unlikely.

05:46 If by domain you mean tree than yes. Then the root domain is GCS by default. But not every DC is a GCS by default. You can tick that box when you're installing AD DS (Active Directory Domain Services).
@itfreetraining6 жыл бұрын
In multiple-domain forests, global catalog servers facilitate user logon requests and forest-wide searches. Thus you should have one GCS per domain. A tree is essentially multiple domains that share the same name space, thus different domains and should have a GCS. If you can find a reference that says otherwise I would be interested in seeing it. Starting with Windows Server 2012 the tick box for global catalog server is ticked by default. You can untick this if you wish. That is probably what I am referring to in the video as it being the default. Sorry if that is not clear.
