no they really did sacrifice the girls. He was reported numerous times and numerous times USAG failed to follow through, and not only that, there was a systematic cover up. If you look at the case Jordyn Wieber has filed against USAG you'll see there's evidence that USAG destroyed medical records of the abused athletes and instead presented files like email threads that amount to a 'medical record' in place of the actual medical records. They systematically tried to cover up this up so that people at USAG wouldn't go down. But you're right, they should have fired him immediately and got a new doctor. Instead they staged a cover up and let girls be abused in the process.

It's called child grooming. When you start abusing someone at such a young age, the victim has trouble realizing how wrong the abuse actually is. It becomes a norm in their life, and the child has never known different. Also when all the adults around you don't seem to have any issues with it (in this case, keep referring her back to the abuser even after many complaints were made by victims) the victim starts telling themselves that there must be something wrong with me to be feeling this way, since it's clearly a normal and okay thing to be happening, and in this case, just another of the many sacrifices that need to be made to win a prestigious Olympic medal for your country.

It's also extremely complicated in this case. There *is* a technique of addressing back/hip pain by a doctor inserting his finger into a female patient's vagina. But it would be with a gloved finger, with a clear explanation of the treatment, with consent every single time, and never on a child in any circumstance. None of those 4 things happened here. The girls did not consent, they were underage, and he was inserting an ungloved finger into their vaginas for the purpose of sexually gratifying himself. This doctor was grooming and lying to these girls and terrorizing them into silence while hiding behind his medical degree. He should be hanged to death on the front lawn of the Karolyi ranch.

This abuse happened for so many years because of various reasons. What I can't stand is when outsiders blame the gymnasts and say, "Why didn't they speak up?". So let me give you a number of reasons: 1. For many the abuse started when they were still children or young teenagers and they didn't comprehend what was going on and they truly believed that what he was doing was medical practice. 2. Sometimes, the child's parents or some other coach would be in the room. The fact that there was an adult there who didn't realise what was going on, how was the gymnast able to think that it was wrong? 3. Over the years, starting from 1988, some gymnasts did report Nassar's abuse but no legal action was taken and some adults in whom they confided turned a blind eye. 4. Larry Nassar was a renowned doctor, he had been the National gymnastics doctor for YEARS. Everyone praised him, everyone loved him. How were these young girls going to say that someone whom all coaches admired was abusing them? 5. The culture of silence and fear created by USAG, especially at the Karolyi Ranch made Nassar seem like the nicest person. The coaches were tough, strict, and many of them abusive. This made Nassar seem like the right person in whom to confide. At the Karolyi Ranch the food was disgusting and the gymnasts used to starve themselves. Larry was the one who brought them food, grooming them. He also let them compete injured which many gymnasts were thankful for. Mckayla Maroney even said that if it weren't for him she wouldn't have competed at the Olympics with a broken toe. 6. Many coaches didn't use to believe their gymnasts when they said they were in pain. How were these gymnasts going to tell them that the national team doctor was abusing them? 7. Martha Karolyi and other coaches made it clear that anyone who was problematic or difficult was going to be taken off the national team. Aly Raisman said that for this reason the gymnasts were afraid to ask for a bar of soap at the Karolyi Ranch. These young girls had their dreams in the hands of powerful adults who could end their Olympic dreams with a snap of their fingers. Nobody wanted to be the problematic gymnast. Hence, everyone stayed silent. My point is, this culture of FEAR gave way to a culture of SILENCE and that is why many gymnasts never spoke up. They had to SACRIFICE so much for their Olympic dreams, and some didn't even make it. The fact that Nassar, this abusive system and coaches completely destroyed these girls mentally, physically and emotionally hurts my heart. I hope change is in order. It needs to be.

There are Victims who did voice concerns and guess what, ignored! These ladies were training for the Olympics 30-40hours. Because the Olympics/MSU refused to investigate the Dr. these girls HAD to report to this sick man for every sprain, muscle ache, cramp, etc. It is not these girls fault! It's those who turned a blind eye to a man who abused and groomed these young ladies that it was normal. Why should these girls give up their dream to Olympics that they've trained for since they could practically walk! Victim shaming is disgusting and going through something traumatic, especially if repeated or prolonged abuse, will always affect a person in some way. There are some people who are/were sexually abused and never allow others to touch or see their body and there are those who become more promiscuous and sexual at a very young age. So to accuse her of having "provocative pictures" and possible "cosmetic surgery" does NOT void her from previous sexual abuse

It doesn't matter if he or she is from the first world, second world, or third world. It doesn't matter if he or she is upper class, middle class, or lower class. It doesn't matter if he or she is white, yellow, red, brown, or black. It doesn't matter if the person is on the political left, right, or somewhere in the center. Everyone should be held to the same standards so that no one will want to do it!

Marta lied in that interview claiming she never knew when in a law deposition she notes she did receive a notice about Nassar in 2015! She deserves jail for not reporting the abuse as per TX state law she is a mandated reporter!

Hundreds...hundreds.......the horror she and many of the other girls endured from this monster. I cant imagine. If retribution is in God's plan I hope that all the girls can find peace in whatever he gets.

The Karolyis need to be locked up next to Nassar! It was their ranch, their property! They had to have known. Also the terror they instilled in those young gymnasts, the mind games and mental abuse because they knew those girls would do anything to go to the Olympics. Sad situation!

USOC is providing counseling? That's it? How about monetary compensation. The org allowed this to happen and so did USA Gymnastics. They swept allegations and reports under the rug.

I’m a graduate of Michigan State University. I’ve told them they ought to drop the osteopath program, which, in my opinion, is inferior to the M.D. program. Not all medical schools offer osteopathy. It is borderline quackery, I think, otherwise why would it not be in every medical school? As far as I know, my complaint came to nothing, of course.

If they wanted to send a true message, Nasser should be executed and his enablers given prison sentences. His actions caused so much suffering, destroyed thousands of lives and derailed the promise and potential of so many girls and young women, something they will have to contend with for the rest of their lives. Talk is cheap, real justice comes from action and the appropriate action would be for Nasser to be placed in a room with all the adult male relatives of the victims so they can enact justice.

I remember watching gymnastics during the olympics a very long time ago and when the american gymnasts would get good scores they'd get happy and jump into their coaches arms but the way the coach would hold them honestly looked kind of creepy. At the time I was like that's odd but I thought to myself that's just an over active imagination. Then many years later this accusations came out and I was like... I totally believe this
