Melli just a little intel: McLaren started to use carbon fiber tubs in their F1 race cars in early 1980’s. Many just looked on until a huge crash in 1981 and the driver walked away. In the 1990’s they used carbon fiber in their production F1 vehicles. In 2011 they started to build road cars again as a contender. Eventually others followed like Ferrari & Lamborghini for road cars. The pedals are made like that to reduce weight. They go through extensive work to reduce every ounce in their cars. It’s structural sound but weight is reduced because of the openings. Same thing for the turn signal handle. This is multiplied over and over throughout any McLaren design to save weight. It’s the budget McLaren some say. Come visit McLarenLife, I don’t have time to post but I’m Stormbringer on there. Usually a bunch of fine guys, but I don’t think they much liked my bombastic approach and honesty. All McLarens have carbon fiber tubs and eventually they started to use it more for n other components and body panels.

Yeah, That crash was at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix, John Watson was the driver for McLaren. I think John Barnard was the designer responsible for the introduction of the carbon fibre tub (or monocoque) to Formula 1.
