The 1970 Mosport Can-Am was my first time attending a professional race. I became a life-long McLaren fan that day. Broke my heart when they decided to drop out of Can-Am before the 1973 season. The M20 is my all-time favourite race car. Gorgeous.

Whoever is in charge of Mclarens internet content needs a huge pat on the back. Everything they post or upload gives the fan such an amazing insight into the workings of a F1 team. Well done.

The first race I attended was the 1969 Can Am race at Road America with my dad. Bruce McLaren won. At 13 years old I was hooked. I thought this is my world...this what I want to do. I was terrible sad when Bruce was killed the next year at Goodwood. His words of inspiration guide me yet today.

Two of my schoolboy friends were into racing. I got interested too. Bruce Mclaren was my first favorite driver. I just loved the look of his car. It was the orange color, I guess. Then he died. Then I became a Mark Donohue fan. And well, Mark died too. They both died testing their cars.

The news that he had died instantly was a terrible shock to all of us, but who is to say that he had not seen more, done more and learned more in his few years than many people do in a lifetime? To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone. bruces words about the death of Timmy Mayer

you know *IF* aliens were in this world studying us and reporting back. I would say the one great attribute that they would say is, our ability to revere and respect and to remember great people when they die and to carry on their legacy, would probably be the best thing we as humans have going for us. If it wasn't for Bruce we wouldn't have the type of cars, nor the Mclaren race team. So Bruce if you are reading this on cloud net, heavenly internet services pty ltd THANK YOU LEST WE FORGET

& its the same with engines, cars everything its all changing and getting worse. massive HP back then in F1, now we have less HP, cars keep getting changed instead of improving from a design. F1 is becoming a waste of money, each year the cars have different rules, and the chassis/ parts are not interchangeable. I would like 2 see from now on these 2010 cars be improved upon, don't outlaw any parts who cares about wing flexing & F-duct's as long as they get more safe it F1 should be an oyster

I know not who you speak of as the Boss. Bruce McLaren was the boss and even after he was killed, his team forged ahead in honor of Bruce ' s vision of things bigger than himself.
@frederickmiles3277 жыл бұрын
As a F! driver Bruces career was nearly over by the late 1960s and when DabGurney drove the third F1 McLaren in 1968 in the American races he was cclearly quicker than Bruce and Denny. In the late 1960s Bruce was just getting points on reliablity in small fields, 5th place two laps behind the winner who was running 3 secs of the practice times. But the early F1 cars of Mclaren actually designed by Robin Heard were not much good , they were far inferior to the Brabham and Matra and nowhere as good as the Lotus. The first good F1 Mclarens were the 72 car and 73 M23 WEdges, before that they were only good when the Goodyear typres were superior. But even post Bruce in the 1970s the MClaren F1 cars were nowhere near the sophsitication and design brillance of the Louts chassis and the Ferrari engine, the mid 1970s Ferraris and Lotuses were developed by large teams of engineers and were sophisticated cars which nobdoy could drive fast however good without extensive experience with the team. REautemann and Villenueve could not get the cars withing 4 seconds o Laudas times whern they first joined the team and Peterson was not quick when he initially rejoined Lotus in 1978. The real success of Mclaren came when they got Malboro cigarette sponsorship and Malboro selected the drivers Fittipaldi and Hunt. but American sports car racing in the 1960s and Can Am was an elite sport of a few and really McLaren just applied their effort their. in the late 1970s with more money in the sport and a serious French challenge from Ligier and the Renautl teapot, McLaren became a much more nationalistic effort against something real
