3DS Max Tutorial on MCloth, the new Cloth Simulation system in 3ds max 2013. This tutorial will show you how to implement it and have it react with rigid body objects.

Already done and loved all three parts :-) Totally agree with you after this clarification. You have to know when and how much turbosmooth you can use while staying in the "safe" zone. Thanks for sharing!

Not a bug, The physics engine by default has a ground plane at 0z. So everything needs to be above it or it will collide with it. Glad to hear you got it working.

useful stuff.. i forgot about rectangle/set garment modifier :) thanks for the tutorial

You are correct, it is a balance between having too many calculations and a slow simulation and too few calculations that returns results that are not very accurate. However, if you are doing a high quality render, you will always put a Turbosmooth on top b/c you would never want to calculate 100s of thousands of Vertices. Thanks for the comment.

Hi Kevin, I wanted to tell you, I was doing tests with a few spheres falling onto cloth but they kept penetrating. I turned the thickness up but then the spheres appeared to hover over the cloth. I found the best way to solve interpenetration was to turn the solver iterations up on the cloth and the substeps on the rigid bodies. I was then able to turn the thickness down with no penetrations. Thanks again for all the help, this is a fun modifier.

Jeremiah Waye why are you stalking me all over youtube? Why are you trying to talk to me constantly? Your youtube page is full of questionable images. Please find someone else to harass.

Also, if you raise the value for the "Push Rigid Objects" option, the sphere will not penetrate.

Thank you for your feedback. And I agree. At the time I was using some lazy software that would just make my life easier. My new tutorials are better quality.

Hi Kevin, I like what you have demonstrated with mCloth so far. However, I'm trying to attach a cloth object to a CAT rigged character mesh and I'm having trouble. Is there something unique when using mCloth with a rigged character? I'd love to see a demo of clothing (even just a simple cape).

Hi there, Thank you for your comment. 3dsmaxhowtos channel has just added a long serious ( about 40 videos) on Rigging (adding bones) and skinning.

You can increase the friction, But if it goes crazy you may have to bump up the simulation samples.

Thank you. No, I do not know why. Besides mCloth and a few minor things, you are not missing out much from 12 to 13. I still use 12 be cause it has all of my plugins but I use 13 for mCloth.

You have to "bake" the simulation. In the MassFX toolset, you click on "Bake All"

Can you give me an example of a scenario where you would this process so that we are on the same page and I can wrap my head around it? From what you described so far, one could use mCloth as kind of a skin for the Geometry, attach it to a characters rig with Vertex groups (mCloth tutorial 2) and then animate the character and sim the cloth. But I am not sure if that is what you mean.
@KevinHarper3DArtist11 жыл бұрын
yes sorry, the mCloth tutorials are low volume. I corrected this mistake in later tutorials.

Nice tutorial, really liked it but I partially disagree with applying a turbosmooth AFTER the physical simulation has taken place. It will speed things up a little, true, but there is a higher chance of getting artifacts and getting an "artificial" look to the animation, correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks again!
@KevinHarper3DArtist12 жыл бұрын
I see what you mean, Lets say you have a Character. Female with a skirt. You want to animate the skirt using physics instead of hand animating it but you do not want to use cloth because you can not bring that into your game engine? You can use some boxes as helpers (bones) and rig up your skirt. Then ad them to a Rigid body chain, sim and bake. I will see if I have time tonight or tomorrow night to knock out a tutorial for you on that subject. Assuming that is your question?

Lo siento que usted está tan molesto, pero la característica que estoy enseñando no exsist en 3dsMax 8 o 9. Y yo no sé español así que si esto está mal escrito, echarle la culpa a el traductor de google. Buena suerte.
