McMenamins Kennedy School Transformation: 25th Anniversary Version features an interview with Mike McMenamin on the original purchase of the historical Kennedy School property by McMenamins. Mike describes his vision for the Portland, Oregon hotel property that now includes event spaces, pool, movie theater, gardens, art and of course the many beloved restaurants and bars now inside the property. When I first heard about a school being turned into a restaurant, I must confess that I was upset. But, after watching this, I'm really happy with this outcome. If the school cannot be used anymore and was abandoned, then at least it can still stimulate the neighborhood economy like this. I hadn't heard of this. I need to explore Portland more.
