They had already hinted in previous videos that a 1JZ would be a direct swap into Moog's mum's car, so that's my guess. Not sure why the 1J would swap more easily than the 2J, but that's what Yoda said in one MCM episode. I'm not a JZ expert so I'd have to do more research to 100% identify it, but it looks 1JZ to me.

I've done a 1000 LS motors with a dial gauge. Just go down from TDC both ways to the same reading like .005" and mark it like a piston stop. Can leave it in and not turn the motor over 350 degrees either risking catching a valve.

The Ecoboost as in the lamented late Ford Falcon is an international engine (Mondeo, Focus ST, Jaguar, Range Rover, Fiesta, Land Rover, Lincoln, Fusion, Escape, Volvo, Transit, Taurus, Edge, Everest, Mustang etc) and has a huge support base overseas incl. the US. They are known for their power and economy (just not at the same time) There are a few different features I'd like explained like direct injection to turbo (I think) and a turbo that is part of the head. Anyway, an overview would be good and Al's POV regarding performance enhancement.

I was rewiring the door harness on a CRV(civic etc) and nobody I asked had any clue as to where to find the proper terminals . Including the service manager at our only Honda dealership. He advised me they kept old harnesses to cannibalize. WTF . The old hondas at the wreckers 90% plus have broken wires at the plug how can nobody know where to get new crimps? Someone must ask their mechanic to fix the power door locks. The cars run forever. PS the most luxurious vehicle in the world would be a Rolls or maybe a Maybach. In Australia it could be something different though.

So the engine IS a 2jzge, for years I've been saying, having worked extensively on both, that the jz, ge especially, is just an evolution of the 7m, like an 8m, rebranded due to the issues that arose with the 7m! Is this what you guys were hinting to by calling it a 7mjze ?

How would this work in regards to a mechanical injection pump diesel (TD27 in my case) I know it wouldn't hurt the engine itself as such but what about damage to the pump?

Suggestions for a Skid Factory technical video would be: Al degreeing cams on a DOHC engine. You can find the info all day long on OHV engines. But its not so common for DOHC engines.

So is it okay to turn a belt driven cam engine backwards? My mechanic always taught me that was a "no-no", so I've kept that advice with me for life.

Never thought about making an adjustable stop - made up several many, many years ago that are all of varied fixed lengths using brazed in inserts. Hard to see if it is done there, but I'd round off the engine end and use a lock nut (hand tightened) to prevent any rotatation of the stop from piston contact (probably overkill, though). Easier to drill and tap using a lathe, BTW.

Query - Spraying the degreaser to see the timing mark - Generally you would avoid this with rubber belts (eg: timing belt on this occasion) as wouldn't it possibly damage the belt and cause premature failure?

Well the actual most luxurious car in the world is an S-Class Benz, but with a straight six config I'd be thinking BMW. Is that old 6 series getting an upgrade? That or Al is being sarcastic and it's going in some old bone rattler.

I'd love your opinion on the 5mge, I have one set aside for a project and was wondering about turbocharging it. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find much up to date information on this engine. It came from a family Cressida which was fantastic to drive. Cheers Paul

This is a great topic and video. lots of shadetree mechanics learned something here I think, myself included. It took me a bit of pondering to realize how a piston stopper would help you locate the middle. I was in the middle of an A-ha moment when Al verbally put the pieces together. I've got a fluid filled solid crank pulley on mine so not an issue, but I can just imagine how many engines get beat up from wrong timing because of this!

It's actually fairly common for the balancer to spin and even separate - I had a harmonic balancer separate on a 2JZ once in my Soarer - smashed up the cooling fan. I was 150km from home at the time so had a fun time replacing it & getting home. A few years later the second hand replacement I had fitted that night also started to spin - this time I heard it before it let go - so I bought a new one - and this is going back at least a decade, so they must be pretty much all rooted by now. I'm betting it's going in a Mercedes, since I've already seen a few Mercs with 2JZ's in them.
