Handy hint, Push the cable through the boot before you cut it, will save damaging the conductor. Then you can cut the cables to length without risking damage.

Hellermen sleeve expanders (or to give them their colloquial name "fanny stretchers", or some places theyre called stretching pliers ) & a smear of their special rubber lube makes putting boots on a doddle. And bonus, you have the tool to make rubber sleeve insulations for gnd and power leads afterwards and about a billion other shop uses you never realized you had until you had a set lying around. Fantastic for making looms up from scratch too for bikes, anywhere you'd use shrink wrap basically but you can re-expand the sleeves to adjust or dismantle things later. They're not even expensive to find s/h and most trade places that do power electrics do the sleeves because they use them heavily in isolating dc cables for ups installs etc.

I got a 64 Malibu setting in garage on blocks I plan so do a very similar swap in soon. The factory 283 had been swapped out for a 1971 350 four bolt main. I had the numbers ran and they showed the engine to be an original four barrel engine from a delivery truck like a UPS truck. I have the performer RPM matching intake and carb. I planned on getting the edelbrock heads eventually but I do believe that the LS swap is the way to go. Great work and inspiration.

Al. Just in regards to how you are making your leads up & just a tip for ya...with HEI style terminals (like you are using), crimp them all on the leads, then slide the boots right on there afterwards. This is because the terminal is the same size as the lead itself & wont have to go around the corner in the boot. the boot slides nicely over the metal terminal. Only a tiny bit of lube required (if any) Fully understand how you done it, that’s for the other style lead ends with the 90 deg male terminals Cheers

If you put the crimp on first, then push it into the boot, it's a LOT easier ... just goes right in. The crimp pushes right in without dragging. Takes a little bit, but you don't have to force the lead through the corner of the boot.

It makes your life 100 x easier that using the one you clamp in the vice. snap on also make the same tool for about £100 more but ive never had an issue with the non brand version. Even does steel ones fine on car
