Nice video, gotta love when every wire is the same color...

It wouldn't have been so bad if there was a wiring diagram to follow....its all good though...figured it out...we are gonna lick the vanes open and put a VFD in. Should run even better. These are 25 year old units

I dont know why I was recommended this and have absolutely no idea what it is but it's intriguing and I'd love someone to explain it lol

Its an old school way to modulate airflow in a duct system. Its using different sensors to use to calculate how much the vanes should be opened or closed to maintain a certain pressure in the duct system. It is doing this due to other smaller boxes that create a zoning of airflow throughout office buildings. Hopefully that'll answer your question a bit.

I have run into sticky floors,they had VCT glue all over it.I asked the guy how are you supposed to walk on it,he said we wear golf shoes,with metal spikes!

Typically we recommend vfd with an air pressure transducer about 2/3 down the duct or before the first supply air register 😊

That is what was recommended....unfortunately the salesman is still dragging his feet on sending the quote....doesn't matter though...I don't work for that company any longer.

Great video Jason, we had a few units with those guide vanes. You might be able to swap out the board relay with the unused ACT3 relay.
@jasonjohnsonHVAC3 ай бұрын
The relay tested good, and the board was not spitting out the 12vdc to engage the coil on the relay. It's a 25 year old unit. We are gonna pin the vanes open, add a VFD to it. The chief engineer was all on board with it. He likes VFD'S. I called around, and the board has been discontinued for 8 years now. Lol. Thanks for watching and the comment buddy

@@jasonjohnsonHVAC I figured it would be hard to get. VFD is perfect 👍. Keep em coming!!

Worked on hundreds of V.A.V. systems, converted tons to freq. drives. Never seen any system start with Vanes open, but maybe because it can't close them is why its doing that. System might prove they work by driving open then closed before starting.
@jasonjohnsonHVAC2 ай бұрын
The vanes are supposed to be closed on start up. The board isn't outputting 12vdc to the relay coil. I could've closed it, started it up...but the next time it started up...would've been back in alarm

Where is the board input to drive that motor? Is it air pressure switch or an analog signal to tell the board to modulate in either direction based on? Static pressure or the amount of vav that are closed? Are those older vav’s just open/close or maintain a specific min/max air set point if so? Based on what? From what I remember about those penn control thermostat they were just open/closed and bypass through the box into the plenum increasing the static to the minimum pressure to keep the unit from freezing up and the discharge air in the plenum with throttle the compressor down on temp? And the air switch would drive the vanes to a minimum and the only time those vanes were completely closed is on unit shut down completely. Again I haven’t worked on an inlet guide vane unit since 1990 so forgive me if I’m off

Used to love the old Trane units(paper svhematics lasted as long as the warranty),follow the black wire #13,or is it #18, dadedadeda,ok and what,how the f-ck did I end up on # 32,repeat process!

I worked for the factory and i have never seen anything like this, this is neat as hell! are those factory installed IGV's or aftermarket?
@jasonjohnsonHVAC3 ай бұрын
Those are factory installed. Not many of them are still out there floating around. I was impressed that the Belimo actuator still worked. It was original to the unit. This unit is from 1999. Thanks for the comment

@@jasonjohnsonHVAC Thats awesome, I love when old stuff just works. I had a data center with 44 joy fans with pneumatic hubs that were still fully operational, and worked perfectly. The maintenance guy loved the building and he was there from the beginning and kept everything maintained and had a fresh coat of paint on everything when it needed it. that place was from 96 and everything looked brand new like it was just installed. For sure man, Tom sent me your way. good stuff brother, keep it up!

@HEFTYLEFTY3033 ай бұрын
I think those relays on the board are replaceable
@jasonjohnsonHVAC3 ай бұрын
They are, problem was that the 12VDC for the coil to switch the contacts. I pulled and tested the coil pins on the board. Never had 12v.
