All the talk about a roller, and scratched paint. This trailer is like a pipe wrench. It’s got a tough job to do. The only roller it needs is a paint roller every couple of years. The floor of the trailer is a wear deck. As for the second winch, for all the time this trailer will be doing the actual job it’s built for doesn’t justify the cost. How many roll deck wreckers do you see with a second winch to straighten out a car the guy is loading, and they’re doing that all day long ? Paint in this application is only superficial. It’s like paint on the blade of a bulldozer. They don’t stay new for ever. Use it, don’t abuse it.
@Nphen4 жыл бұрын
No need for rollers or worry about the tree logs scraping the paint. There was a metal chain trapped under the first log as he unloaded it. He didn't notice it because of his sightline. Would have been simple to remove and save wear on the trailer deck.
@kevinmorin79654 жыл бұрын
George, no issues with paint but a tail roll reduces or eliminated lots of "cam over's" or surging of irregular shapes as they're loaded. This means the load moves much more smoothly and as such can be spotted more easily to balance over the axles- instead of having it surge forward and over wt the tongue. my point is based on the heavy equipment loading tail roll trucks, trailers and equipment haulers, no worries about paint- but a cam over surge can be unhealthy. Tail roll would reduce/eliminate that risk when using a cammed arch method or handling loads.

Matt, I'm sure this has been suggested before but it would be quite interesting to me to get an actual log weight. Maybe arrange to go through a truck scale before and after pickup for the really huge ones. It would allow us to see how accurate the weight estimation calc is. Thanks for making these videos.

This is one of my all-time favorite videos you’ve done. First of all, the shots of Brandon dealing with that massive tree by himself with no large machinery was very damn impressive. He is clearly a badass! But we wouldn’t even know that without your fantastic drone shots and editing to make it all concise, interesting, and chronological. It was really on point! You showed exactly how he brought that tree down in a way that was absolutely captivating. And then you take over and get to loading the trailer that we’ve all followed through it’s design and completion, all the way down to anchoring the log for travel- the whole thing.... man, those kinda details, that’s where it’s at! Very cool to see your incredibly ambitious engineering/welding/building project come together and knock it out of the park on the first try. Additionally, I’m very happy to see you expanding your business and making ridiculously good video content at the same time. This was really a good one! If we could add another five minutes at the end for a little bit of slabbing, a comment about crotch , and some quick hand-cut dovetails.... you’d probably break KZbin and crack open a portal to another dimension, but... you know... GOALS!

Using a ladder and a rock climbing harness instead of a proper rope access or tree saddle. poor felling technique, you can tell because theres no hinge wood on the stump. First things first, the guy who dismantled the tree did what he was supposed to do, dismantle it. However the way in which he did it makes me fear that one day he will have an accident or worse. First of all PPE: no helmet, no visor, no safety goggles, no gloves, no saw pants. He survived this job but he should invest in some safety gear if he wants to stay alive. Second, technique: lots of dangerous saw cuts and lots of dangerous positioning of himself in relation to the sawing action. Again, during this job nothing happened but you can't keep challenging your luck. There are lots of resources on proper chainsaw handling. His climbing, keeping his line slack instead of tight, improper anchoring. Just lots of little things that could mean life or death in case of an accident.

I think the idea of a second winch is a great idea. Even a 'Come-a-long' to pull the logs onto the trailer would work. It's a shame it's not set up with a hydraulic power source. We had one on a trailer we built. It ran two winches and three different cylinder units. Anyway a second winch would make your job easier. Love the video, the climber was great and it was a shame to scratch the paint on that trailer.

Yup...more undercuts would've helped. Stick-saw in the upper crown ? Well...that's just odd. Ladder goes away soon as the climber gets off of it. And dude, you really should get your climbing line out of the drop zone; especially when you're felling big logs. One heavy long catches that line wrong while falling...well you don't need that to happen. Totally unorthodox and probably charged his client one third the industry standard. Glad to see he completed the job safely. BTW: That is one awesome trailer built with pure innovation Matt.

Pole saw, ladders, tear cuts. Think you might get more comments on this then the piece of timber itself
@umaikakudo4 жыл бұрын
Tear cuts dont matter on a removal. What does matter is one handed chainsaw use, no helmet, unsecured equipment aloft, people in the drop zone with no helmet or other protective gear, dropping limbs near power lines with bystanders that have no PPE and are too close, operating a saw while tied in only once, frequently climbing high above his tie in point, no chainsaw leg protection, and a half dozen other OSHA and industry standards violations. This guy is going to kill or maim himself or someone else some day if he keeps working this way.
@mlindholm4 жыл бұрын
@@umaikakudo You don't need them for the health of the tree, but doing it can ensure a clean break on a limb being removed. Seems that logically it'll be more likely to "snap" and fall predictably, rather than tear down the bark and whip around where you weren't expecting it to.

@@umaikakudo yeah, a lot of people are complaining about no undercuts. Undercuts have there place, but definitely are no always necessary. Climber needs to learn to undercut before you cut the sections off. That peel can get you killed
@sammosher18124 жыл бұрын
Not a single undercut in the entire video that I saw. I was like what is going on here?
@sludo564 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. But a very good climber.
@RUNDNB854 жыл бұрын
@@sludo56 no his climbing and rigging were all wrong, that is not how you climb a tree.

As an actual tree care professional, what I just watched was painful. Keep doing tree work like this and you or someone on the ground WILL end up seriously injured or dead..

I really liked the web sling rigging... " that was a big piece, now what???"...lol! Wonder how he got that chunkier pulled back up & off the sling, or if he just cut it free, they didnt show any of his near missed, I'm sure he had a few... he missed a great opprotunity to srt, and do some epic limb walks...sad waste of a good climb...

This needs to be reiterated. Matt's friend needs to seriously do his homework on how to properly and safely remove limbs from a tree selected for removal. Several times limbs failed to break away cleanly with no guidance to the ground due to improper technique from an amateur. If he doesn't make the effort to learn how to cut properly, he will end up seriously injured before too long.

Not a sliver of hinge wood either - he just sawed back from the notch until his saw got stuck and then pulled the tree over with the truck

Seriously!!! Was thinking wow through the whole video. Best bit is the older gentleman buckin away with your man limbing above him!!

Mister - “You are good”... I wish this video had been available back in the 70’s when I first started bringing down trees. You must have amazing chains because they cut like they were going through butter.

Nothing wrong with that big Ol’ tree at all.

Nice to see the success of the trailer build! (And an excellent video on how not to do tree work).

please use counter cut when you cut down a tree, otherway your gonna go on the next "top 10 chainsaw fail"
@cheezeball61093 жыл бұрын
Yeah i am no expert, but this didnt seem the proper way to cut the tree....that backcut seemed to be missing

I have never seen anything like the guy who cut that tree down. He is a Superman. I found myself praying for him.

Congratulations on the new trailer. It's so amazing what you can do with ease when you have the right equipment. I had to laugh when I saw your pinned comment about the paint. I was thinking the same thing.

That guy cutting the tree down, was truly amazing, using the chainsaw with one hand, takes a lot of strength, this guy is a crazy kind of skilled worker..
