The weird odd reverb or delay makes a real assessment very difficult. The player is competent but many cliches are being played, and I think buying this pedal you would try to come to some truly original ideas or sounds. But then again this pedal seems to track better than the EHX modelers.

@ibanezmaestro5630
@ibanezmaestro5630 Жыл бұрын
@Christopher Atkinson I really don't play like this much either. My emphasis has been tightening my picking hand to play and fat chunky metal riffs. I'm more Hetfield than Hammett anymore. Lol. To play like this, you just have to master scales and practice bending techniques. Lots of blues in this sound. McRocklin's style is extremely soulful and expressive, so bending is a huge part of it. Once you got that down, find you a sweet guitar tone with a generous amount of compression (preferably tube) and add delay to taste.

@ibanezmaestro5630
@ibanezmaestro5630 Жыл бұрын
@@SunsetKetch Yea I had that issue myself a long time ago. All the solos I would write would be isolated to one part of the neck and I thought it sounded good at the time. Then I heard Ozzy Osbourne's Randy Rhodes Tribute album. The whole thing was great and one of my favorite albums of all time, but his unaccompanied solo on Suicide Solution changed my playing forever. I chased that sound for many years. I wanted to put a solo like that together of my own and I realized that was just never gonna happen by limiting myself to just the first 9 notes of the minor Blues pentatonic scale my dad taught me. Lol. My point is, sometimes it takes an insane amount of inspiration from somebody like Randy Rhodes or Zakk Wylde, Steve Vai, etc. to break you out of your mold. Otherwise we do what is comfortable and don't much care to experiment with colors outside our pallette. We succumb to the "that's just my style bro." mentality that holds so many guitarists back. Trouble is, as we get older and have played for more and more years, we become progressively harder to impress, much less inspire. You might say it's for the same reason why DC and Marvel films don't impact us the same way that movies we saw when we were kids did. We become jaded over the years because we've just seen so many. But when that one guitar player does come around that can make you wanna change the way you play, you will break out of your comfort zone voluntarily and then you'll be on your way. Sorry for the long response. Lol

This is an incredible pedal. If guitarists are going to do something different in the next decade, then it's going to be using pedals like this, making new sounds come out of the instrument. Yeah shredding is cool, but its been done, it's not original, there are loads of identikit shredders out there. This could be the way forward.

The thing I noticed within 5 seconds of having this pedal, is if you're a metal player, using a Fortin amp Sim (or something) use channel 1 (lower gain); cause A LOT of the synthiness/harmonics will get lost in the high gain mode/channel. A clean(er) channel with a drive pedal (Hex Drive or whatever you're using) is where it's at :)

First impressions tracking is incredible, tones are wonderful. Having said that it comes with the caveat. The tones alone are lacking focus. I watch many reviews where the person was always playing the patches with the guitar and the effect together and everyone would ask for the FX only. Now I see why guitar was always present. Without the guitar there is now true mid highs and top end even with the resonance sweep. Overall great gear!

I'm on a tight budget, so the mooer e7 which is half the price of this one is tempting, but I don't know if its any good, and I can't afford to buy something that I won't be entirely happy with, and then need to buy something better later. I am considering this an would like to know a few things. 1) Would you say that Lead 2 - Variation 5 (OCT LEAD) is the same as Lead 1 - Variation 1 and Variation 2 put together? 2) Do tone and depth act more like cutoff frequency and resonance? I'm a bit confused as to what they do. I am wanting to see if it'll do the GR-300 sound, but not just the one tone like Pat did, but having the GR-300's dual switch on and turning the manual VCO up an oct, so you get two notes an octave apart.

Hi, great review. Talking about tracking, why didn't you play any real fast legato line ? Maybe you could take this pedal to its actual (or not) limit? Really curious about legato tracking, as it is the main issue for Midi plugins/devices usually.
@McRocklin
@McRocklin 5 жыл бұрын
I don't use a lot of legato in my playing, but it should be just fine as long as you have fairly clean notes.

Ok, thank you for your answer. I'm just a bit suspicious because I had to resell the SY300. Tracking was really miserable. Seems to have improved on this one though...

Absolutely! There is a concentric control that individually adjusts the amount of original and synth sound in the output.

On the back of the pedal there is a small slide which is labeled for bass or guitar. Your pedal is probably set to the bass position. Set it to guitar, and all will be right with the world.

Can it store a preset to back and fort? Like switching between a preset for lead and the knobs settings for a strings/pad for a rhythm section. Edit: Can it also be used with a sustain pedal or is that what the pedal foot switch is for?

Can you tell me if guitar direct sound goes to "amp" and SY-1 goes directly to a mixer? I wonder if I use it only with my guitar combo, would it sound still good or better is to send direct output to combo and Synth out directly to a mixer?

Why the Send / Return connections? And how can I feed the synth sound to the PA and my Guitar to the multi FX / Guitar amp?
@eifersucht14c
@eifersucht14c 5 жыл бұрын
I believe the send and return allows you to shoot your pre-SY1 signal out to a separate series of pedals, and then blend it back through with the synth signal. Basically, it creates a "dry/wet" between two signal paths. Traditionally, your SY1 synth signal, and a "dry" standard guitar signal ... But it's also been pointed out you could theoretically chain one SY1 into another into another and create several layers of blended synth effects coming from one dry guitar signal hitting that first pedal.

I take it youre adding the reverb? Also, it sounds in stereo on my tv, yet when you hit the normal guitar sound, it isnt, so again, is the delay making it stereo, as theres only one cable comming out of it...
