@@kennethsmith6367 I’m a fan of making a movie when you have a story to tell. That’s something corporatism in filmmaking lacks; rather than a story to tell make for consumption. From beginning to end you can tell that there was a story to tell in the first season of xmen 97 (comic references are just icing on the cake).

As an avid videogame industry enthusiast, I gotta say that the Assassin's Creed movie was *forgettable* at minimum and downright *insulting* at most. That Assassin's Creed movie was a grave slap in the face to Assassin's Creed players and fans of it's lore. It was basically a whole other production dressed up in only the costume trimmings of Assassin's Creed. I do not have high hopes for a comics-accurate X-men film after seeing who Feige has hired as writers for this show...

X Men is a prestige genre soap opera drama. The blueprint is Game of Thrones. A large ensemble cast of complex characters. Explores controversial topics and not afraid to "go there". Landmark WTF OMG moments (Red Wedding etc). Anyone can die (Eddard Stark). Heartbreaking sacrifices (Hodor). The X Men can be a 6 to 8 movie series released over a 10 year span.
@AnthonyPi1999

That’s why they needed to hire a cat from an earlier season of GoT or someone’s from Succession! At least someone who understands that kind of ensemble cast (and who’s a fan of the comics)! Nope, we got the writer of the shitty Hunger Games prequel and the utter dreck of the Assassin’s Creed movie!

@@TheMusicalLawyer Sadly, that's essentially how I've always felt about the X-Men, even when they were coming off of their '90s high: cool powers and costumes, but...that's about it. Story-wise, I've never particularly cared about them and even now I don't obsess over them like the rabid X-fans do. That said, '97 was beautifully animated and it captured why the X-Men are so appealing to a lot of people: flashy powers interspersed with cheesy interpersonal drama and the typical mutant vs. human stuff...oh and of course, ultra-powerful badass women.
@TheMusicalLawyer
@TheMusicalLawyer 26 күн бұрын
@@SpiderGuy325 Yeah! I like the low-stakes but meaningful conversations. It feels close to real life? Lots of existential issues bombarding us all the time but we have to deal with the mess that’s right in front of us, while trying to support each other. In other words, it deals with a lot of heady issues without being pretentious. I love that! I like the male characters too! Nightcrawler and Magneto were both awesome. And I almost never like villains-I’m a classic “goody two shoes” type-but Magneto was awesome!

I thought this show did a great job of incorporating small, but poignant character moments in between the action. Like Jean and Storm’s heart to heart in episode 9, before Storm jumps outa the jet. You don’t need a completely extra scene to play with character dynamics-just find ways to integrate those more emotional moments into the ongoing plot and missions.

If the MCU X-men doesn't pan out, the closest we got to it's comics-accurate (Earth-616) depiction would only consist of Patrick Stewart as Xavier, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus & Josh Brolin as Cable from Deadpool 2, and Olivia Munn as Psylocke from X-men Apocalypse. That's all the comics-accurate X-men in all of the films.

I feel like the key to the social commentary of the X-Men is it needs to be general enough that ANY group can see themselves in the mutant metaphor. If it gets too specific into any one groups talking points then the metaphor crumbles. Like the Genosha scene could have been viewed by Palestinians or Israelis as an allegory for Oct 7th or the Gaza invasion and each group could relate to it.

97' is perfect for animation but when it comes to movies it would have to add more meat. it would flesh out the stories more and enough to make us fall into the story and feel less like a rehash. One series would be 6+ movies. When it comes to humor, I think it needs just bold personalities and connections that allow fun and humor. Nothing like what the MCU is where the world is goofy but people are funny and have fun nd situations can be funny without being dumb. I think the drama or relationship would be ideal. we love the people who like each other and the deep relationships that exist in the IP

I will forever maintain that Iron Man Extremis is a classic which was butchered by Shane Black. A few script tweaks and it could have been amazing. But there was no need for the Transformers ending we got. Anybody interested just look for the motion comic. Which may be available here on YT. They missedf a perfect opportunity to introduce Stark's nano tech if they had followed the story more faithfully. Ultimately I would have swapped secondary and main villain as well. 😒

This show brings me back to when the original show came out.... what a great SHOW!! This is how u bring it to LIVE action... on the level of "Invincible" indeed cuz it has been batting on a thousand... now Marvel has definitely gotten a HIT & we can only PRAY it doesn't lose it's steam once it comes back around....

I consider myself the "broader audience". I don't know the comics and I have not seen the original 90s X-Men show. And I did not like X-Men 97 very much. It was too convoluted. Most of the time I had no idea what was happening and why. And to make it even more confusing, there were several things happening on top of each other which all were very unclear to me. Every MCU movie and show, including Secret Invasion, did a better job to explain what was happening and why it was happening. Maybe comic fans love these convoluted stories, but I didn't, and I hope we don't get this in the MCU. I don't mind more colorful costumes though. Give me yellow spandex in the MCU. I did not mind the animation - I loved The Bad Batch! It was the stories that put me off.

GRACE!!!! As you point out, not a complex formula!!!! (And frankly, I only noticed Wolvie was sidelined when KZbinrs started to mention it! LOL!!! Man, so much hoopla about a character John Byrne had to stop Chris Claremont from killing back when dead actually meant dead [Thunderbird, Jean Grey, Uncle Ben, Bucky] :) ) THANKS FOR THIS, @GraceRandolph!!!!!

I am all for diversity casting (not that the team really needs it) but one thing is for certain with me: Xavier HAS to be a privileged white male and Magneto HAS to be a white Jewish holocaust survivor. Both of those characters racial identities are integral to their stories and the way they interact with the world. Xavier is the textbook definition of white savior complex.

Would love an updated MCU X-Men fancast video now we've seen X-Men 97 and have an idea of how Feige is leaning towards introducing these characters to the MCU as a whole.

Marvel does look more comics accurate now, the stories of the films really aren't though. It used to be the other way around in phases 1-3.
