Dakota Johnson seeming so uninterested in the press tour is a large reason I didnt feel confident in seeing this movie. I was watching a former creator for the Big Two on a podcasting who theorized the issue with female and men writers. He circled back to playing with action figures; boys would play with Batman and Superman treating them like the characters. Girls have a greater tendency to play with Barbie and project themselves onto the toy. So, his assessment was: male writers tend to write the characters as they understand them to be. Female writers tend to write the characters projecting themselves to be.

I needed one of 2 things from this movie to get me into the theater: Grace and some of the other critics to praise this movie( not just a decent thumbs up, a resounding endorsement) or a solid confirmation of being connected to one of the established Spider-man with a cameo. Sony has been running these properties into the ground and proving they can’t hack it without being propped up by Marvel and the MCU. Even Into the Spiderverse has the ability to make theses connections worth the investment from fans, Venom has been doing ok because of its promise to deliver a connection, but the returns are diminishing without that delivery. I really wish there was a clause for these failures that returned the property to marvel in the face of running the IP into the ground. This short coming with Madam Web has me giving a hard pass on anymore Sony Spiderverse stories that don’t center around a Spider-Man lead. It’s time for Sony to reevaluate who is in charge of these films and how they are going forward. I thought DC was a mess, Sony really said hold my beer… What a lost opportunity… smh
