The fact that people can make 3D games in a 2D web browser game engine that uses a simple block-based programming language that doesn't even support most object-oriented concepts baffles me. Holy crap. I genuinely wonder how some of the 3D rendering techniques work behind the scenes.

it uses math that makes the illusion of 3D, it's complicated but there is a tutorial for it by TheGreenFlash

Yes, people underestimate Scratch. Scratch shouldn't be looked at as a just a kid's toy. There were a ton of great things made in Scratch that could probably rival stuff made in Unity and other game engines if used cleverly. Scratch can be a force to reckon with.
