For Pharma industry and also paywise, MD Pharmacology is better. But job will be more non clinical except for clinical trials part. More of traveling n making connects and making MOUs etc

MD Micro has more jobs in private sector , MD PSM more jobs in govt sector. Both are pretty relaxed. MD Micro Lab consultant job is one of the most relaxed one except for Corporate pressure, the work itself is very relaxed.

For MD Micro right? Seth GSMC > GMC Mumbai any day. Lots of senior faculty of GMC Mumbai got transferred recently to other state govt colleges. Seth GSMC will be heavy workload though but u will learn a lot more and faculty is also good.

Delhi Micro tbh. Patho is already saturated while Micro is gaining ground rapidly..if u are going to settle in urban setup Micro is good..make an informed decision..as an UG many understimate Microbiology grossly. Infection control is also gaining importance and molecular diagnosis.

Com Med jobs are mainly in public sector n public health related more high admin type jobs (Executive Health Officer etc). Microbiology gets jobs in both public as well as private labs and hospitals and is more individual patient related. You have to make your own decision.

Its a good option if you are ok with a laidback and paraclinical life. Post MD Decent money, free weekends without any patient calls. LTMGH is good for MD Micro, residency will be heavy though post that life would be much better. Jobs are there in urban settings. If you are very fixed in view that you need pure clinical only then consider diploma or drop. Weigh the risk vs benefit of repeat.

Pathology is very much saturated. Micro is gaining lot of importance post Covid especially with viral diseases like Monkey Pox, Zika, Nipah and also increasing Antimicrobial Resistance and need for Hospital Infection Control. Micro jobs are mainly in urban settings though. You can use your own discretion, Micro is certainly not as bad as people project it to be but need to do from a good institute. Routine reports can be signed by any of the 3 MDs, Micro, Patho or Biochem

Yes. But fellowship is a subspecialty and not a super specialty (D.M I.D). Yes one can do clinical practice, there is no restriction.

No. No handling animals in MD Microbiology. Its mainly patient samples n their reporting. They do ask animal handling in DNB Micro though n rarely some oldschool examiners may ask in MD Viva. Abroad very good scope for Micro..u can do PhD too after MD abroad. Gulf also good scope for Micro

In current scenario monetarily Patho is better but it has become highly saturated whereas Micro is gaining a lot of ground post Covid and new viral diseases and antibiotic resistance also growing. So with future in mind, Micro is equally good option. If u dont want to gamble then go with Patho.

Current trends in fact support Microbiology, rising antibiotic resistance, viral diseases like Covid, monkeypox, Nipah , increased number of NABH hospitals (hospital infection control is mandatory for NABH). Pathology is already very saturated,. Pathology is more revered only because common man knows the term pathology lab. They think Micro is only MSc. But after Covid Microbiologist is known even to them because of RTPCR. If you are aware these fields are now called Laboratory Medicine (Patho,Micro,Biochem) and any of the 3 can head it.

Whether u take patho or micro is immaterial, more important would be to excel it. There r many Microbiologist who are more famous and earn more than pathologist and vice versa. Ij most states by law, a RTPCR report of Covid, influenza has to be signed by an MD Microbiologist only.

Depends on which private college, how is the workload and latest equipments are present or not? Pathology is now pretty saturated, Micro is gaining a lot of importance due to recent viral infections like Covid, Mpox, Zika, Nipah, Influenza, Chikungunya etc and also Antimicrobial Resistance. See what u like amongst the two more. Both have good opportunities abroad.

KEM, BJMC, GMC Aurangabad, GMC Nagpur are good. JJ has lost many of its faculty to transfer. KEMH will be heavy residency but u ll learn a lot.

GMC Nagpur is good, lots of residents. BJMC Pune Micro > GMC Nagpur in terms of reputation and whole genome sequencing etc. Seth GS Mumbai above both of them but residency will be heavy.

@Malavikaa-d5w I would always prefer a General Hospital for MD Microbiology , you will get mostly opportunistic infections and fungal infections at TMH as all are cancer patients..but u will miss out on the routine infections like Malaria, Lepto, Dengue etc etc plus also miss teaching UG students. Its a great institute no doubt but if you are getting a govt general medical college of similar calibre it would be preferable over TMH. TMH is better for MD Pathologists.

BJMC Pune is good for sure. It carried Whole genome sequencing of Covid samples in Maharashtra and Head of Dept is eminent Microbiologist Dr Rajesh Karyakarte. Cant comment on Lucknow colleges as I dnt knw about it 1st hand. Yes you can easily practice in future. There is no restriction on that by NMC unless ur job doesnt allow private practice.

MD Patho > MD Biochem any day. Yes they can. All 'routine' lab tests can be signed by any of the following MD Micro, MD Patho, MD Biochem or MBBS plus 3yrs of Lab Medicine experience. Specialized tests like Histopath can be signed only by Patho, Culture susceptibility only by Micro, so on n so forth. CBC is a routine test so any of the 3 can sign.

No. By law Any medical report HAS to be signed by a doctor registered under a medical council. If MSc has signed then it has to be countersigned by a registered Doctor. For routine tests it can be a MD Microbiology, Pathology or Biochemistry or MBBS with 3years of Lab Medicine experience.

@pbpatil6327 yes certainly. You would be very good in diagnosing Infectious diseases, using the right antibiotic which reaches the site. Selecting the right test to do at the right stage of the disease( eg not using antibody tests in initial part of disease, knowing significance of IgM and IgG) etc

Interview based. There is marking scheme for experience as well as extra degrees like DNB, Fellowships etc, awards recieved, publications and seperate marks for interview. Permanent posts has a lot of competition but possible..so build your CV as soon as u pass out.

Pharma As a fresher in a good company will be >1.5 lakh pm, the profile will be equivalent of MD Pharmac and there is no distinction between the two..what they mainly see is how well u can connect with different key persons of the industry. Hospital Infection Control will be mainly in NABH hospitals n start at 1.2 lakh pm

Present papers/posters in state and national conferences of Microbiology. There are conferences of Parasitology, Infection control, Mycology, Virology etc as well. Do certificate courses during residency. Publish papers.

Sir I am thinking to take md micro this year and I want to join teaching profession in future . So i have a confusion , there is msc micro also , so in medical colleges as a tutor/professor who are appointed msc or md in micro ?

MD Micros are always preferred. Old appointments are there of MSc candidates but there is lot of legal issues going on. As of today, both can apply but most premier institutes have MD Micros only as faculty.

Certainly sought after. Especially in recent times viral diseases are gaining significance. Initially it used to be more about HIV, HBV etc but now emerging and re-emerging diseases also there like Covid, influenza, Mpox, Nipah, Zika n expected to gain more significance.

@medicalknowledge7950 Mainly big institutes..one can become director too after few yrs. Also will be called upon as a Task Force leader during viral outbreaks etc. It would be one of the trusted names in Virology.

Seth GSMC > LTMMC/GH > TNMC > JJ . JJ lost lots of senior faculty due to transfer to other state gov colleges. GSMC n LTMGH will have huge workload though

Central govt is much more a lecturer upwards of 1.5lakh per month as a fresher, State govts and corporations will be around 1.2lakh per month. Contractual lecturers in Mumbai corporation are currently getting exactly 1 lakh per month
