Matt, you have helped me be a very successful turkey hunter. As you say, I tend to stick with one easy (for me) technique that works, but not all the time. This is going to be a fun series. My early scout shows birds in the area. It's a long time til April, though.

Dale you’ve given us a ton of good advice over the years so I’m gonna give you some now. I wouldn’t store that electronic device we call a phone so close you your heart which also runs on electricity quite a bit. Anywho just wanted to share that with you. Love the channel and thanks for all you do.

I always say "the only thing predictable about turkeys is that they are unpredictable." My success has improved as I have learned to call less & allow patience to work in my favor. I find it easier to harvest a Tom that fires up mid to late morning, because I don't compete well with real hens coming off the roost first thing in the morning. The challenge is what makes it fun & rewarding!

Great advice. I have had to learn the hard way that the way you "planned" the hunt ain't always how you get the bird. 😂 Hope to see you at NWTF!

Looking forward to your mentoring Matt! Can you please cover preseason equipment prep, especially with calls? Things like should diaphragm calls be replaced yearly because stretching or sun exposure? Should I be doing anything by way of maintenance to my box or slate calls to enhance sounds? Or what other preseason prep rituals to recommend for gear. Thanks, and looking forward to the Matt Dale University of everything turkey!

I agree but also disagree because there’s definitely years or times of each season that are odd. I’ve heard birds gobble like crazy opening day & not another peep rest of season. I’ve seen birds flocked up like winter on opening day, I’ve seen em split up like we want them to be & I’ve seen gobblers together literally all season and not respond to calling or real hens. However the overall message is 100% correct no matter the situation u have to stick it out and hunt & down it every chance u get

Dale tell people to quit hunting the gobble and hunt the turkey sign. You know people move through the woods spooking and educating turkeys because they have to find one that’s gobbling. Gobblers don’t have to gobble to be hot. People watch too many TV shows and have no clue about the “ silent “ hot birds.

I started here in Tennessee in 1986 it was great from 1992 till about 2017 haven't been near the birds since and l have good places to hunt our wildlife people don't really know what's happening blame it on nest raiders but there has always been nest raiders so who knows for sure probably a combination of alot of things

@ I'm just getting into trapping but everything I've learned is that raccoon, opossum, and skunk have a huge impact on turkey flocks. How common is trapping in your area? The turkey flocks in north central PA seem to be getting bigger.
