Can't you do it the other way round? Just cut the countersink/ recess then cut the hole. That way you won't need the notches? I've been looking for the answer to making counter sinks everywhere. Nice vid

No this is the only way unless you put the wood on another sheet and spray tack it to hold center but this is safer
