I just tried one at my local gun shop yesterday; I did not notice any issues with the spring. Both guns in stock were harder to rack than I thought; but the one I took apart I was able to put back together quickly. I expected the magazine to be hard to break in but two your 12 rounder is very disappointing. Best of luck; hope to see another video when you get the new parts.

I'm 80 years old and I had no problem at all seeing my front sight and I did not have any carbon build up on the sight! I did have trouble getting that 12th round in the mag but that did not bother me! My 2.0 was very accurate with very little recoil and I shot about 250 rounds so far. I have some nerve damage in my hands and fingers, so I had a little difficult time racking the slide but I was able to take it apart for cleaning! I have had No Issues with this gun and I bought it for my EDC, which I have started to do! I shoot once every week at my LGR and at my age, I just practice shooting for self defense and I find that this gun will serve this purpose for Me!

Take the follower out of the 12 round mag and clip the small point off the bottom front. When you use the Uplula the follower wants to twist a bit and that point on the follower hangs up in the magazine hole that’s cut for the mag release button. If you load the 3round by hand you can finish loading with the Uplula. Clip that tip off and problem fixed.

I cannot get my spring back in for the life of me, and the round part that seats into the barrel is now super bent and have not even fired it yet. All the way up at the front of the guide rod where it's supposed to go into the slide, the spring seems to be overlapping up front which doesn't let the front part of the guide rod seat into the front of the slide. I asked Smith & Wesson for a replacement guide rod and spring. I also couldn't get around to seat into the barrel all the way, and upon dry fire my trigger was super heavy.
@marcwilson40034 ай бұрын
@@VroomNPewis it possible to compress the recoil spring in a c clamp or vice?
@VroomNPew4 ай бұрын
@@marcwilson4003 yes, but the round part that seats into the barrel is bent, as if someone else before I received it tried to use some tools. Either that or it bent just running the slide by hand a few times. The other odd things that the spring on the other end where it needs to seat into the slide is poking out and flush with the end, so it gets in the way when trying to insert the small and into the slide. I went to a store and they disassembled theirs, and the guide rod compressed very easily and the spring did not extend out into that area and was easily installed. Smith & Wesson is sending me another guide rod and spring, and I hope it fixes my really heavy trigger issues as well. The gun I tried at the store had a great trigger compared to mine. Maybe the slide was being held in a slightly wrong position. I really don't want to have to send the whole thing back in, but it's likely going to happen.

If you look at the end of the guide rod, and fine the end of the spring. On mine it wasn't under the plug flange. I took a screwdriver and slipped it under the flange, and the recoil spring assembly pops right back in, no problem. I say I "found" it, actually there is a thread on the Smith and Wesson forum where the problem is talked about and one of the posters there spoke of it. He has pictures there that show what to look for, but seriously once I figured that out, no more problems. The magazines are loosening up as I've used them. I still use a mag loader, but I'm an old man with arthritic thumbs. I might be able to get those last rounds in but it's pretty painful. That's why they make mag loaders. :) I just took a sight pusher to my rear sight. I didn't go far so it will have to wait until the next range trip to see if it helped. Good review though.

After an engineering career in manufacturing companies I agree. The marketing and management folks push engineers to release products before all the bugs have been worked out. So some products will have issues. Rev 2 will solve 90% of the problems but may create other problems. Rev 3 will solve 99% of the problems. The public will never know when the company makes these changes. I will wait for 1 year before buying any newly released product.

I had the recoil spring not want to go in one time but I figured it out. The end has to be perfectly centered in the slide. The tolerance is very tight. It it won’t go, just rotate it 180 degrees and it goes right in. On the magazine issue, I use an Uplula to get the last 3 or 4 rounds in. It’s the same on the 10 and 12 round magazine. Super tight for sure but I can do it. My trigger tests at 4.5 pounds but feels heavier because of its small size. The dingus is almost as wide as the trigger itself so I’m not sure if it is serving it’s intended purpose. And mine shoots low left as well.

Now it works fine. If you can only get 2 rounds in it's because the follower catches on the holes at the top of the mag. You can trim off a corner of the follower to fix it. I understand your frustration but I love shooting mine so much compared to any other pocket 380 that I'm fine with the issues as long as they are taken care of.

You’re right about the front metal first coil on the spring it has to get in that pocket exactly right and then you can get the spring put in I’m going to using a pair of soft Jaw channel locks every time you shouldn’t have to do that but it does work. But Smith & Wesson really should’ve discovered that before they sent it out into the world. Also on the magazine I was having trouble getting past the third round on the 12 round magazine because I was using a loader Smith & Wesson told me to Handload the first three to the follower gets past that first opening in the magazine and the rest you can use the loader because it follower catches on that opening in the magazine. I took my magazine apart and filed a little tip of that follower off and now it works fine no matter how I wanna load it every time but that’s another thing they should’ve figured out

Please read your Manual on field stripping. You do not have to dry fire nor should you to remove slide during strip down. You push down on ejector pg 30 fig 55, then the slide slides off. I found my recoil spring is much easier to remove and reinsert approaching from the side rather than from the top as I could see you struggling with. Only takes a few seconds approaching from the side. My BG 2.0 has been great with 200 rd FMJ round nose so far. Next will be FMJ flat nose then JHP for my EDC. Heard some 2.0's having issues with flat nose and certain FMJ, I'll see. My barrel ramp looked polished from the factory so maybe they fixed that reported issue. My front sight was visually way off right from factory, shooting left. Nothing what a brass punch didn't take care of. How was your front sight centered? I have not many problems. The main thing is that it seems to shoot low left. Your magazine issues have been addressed online. Easy fix. A tighter slide and spring translate to more accuracy but less reliability. That problem will resolve itself the more you shoot the pistol. Just keep the slide/frame rails lubed.
@scottrichards4399Ай бұрын
Same problems plus the mag release was very difficult to operate and the safety was almost impossible. I sent it back to the factory. They were very understanding and returned the pistol with all issued corrected in 2 1/2 wks. Quality control has been struggling the last two years on their new release pistols.

I have seen at least 2 video reviews where the trigger was measured several times with the average being in the 3 1/2 range. So i don't think yours is far off. They seemed to not be surprised, so I'm assuming it's nowhere near the 10, if that is what S&W is listing. BG 1.0 is full double action and measures in around 10. But the 2.0 must be much lighter. That is one thing that concerned me in a pocket pistol, if it really is that light.

I have one of these little Bodyguard 2.0s and I know what your issue is with the guide rod. The spring is, in my opinion, not wound tight enough to keep the termination of the spring under the end of the guide rod. On mine, I can just use my fingernail to pop it back under the guide rod. Once it is "captured" under the guide rod it assembles without any problems. If it isn't captured its nearly impossible to assemble. I suspect you will have the same thing with the replacement guide rod/spring assembly. I also suspect if you understand what I am saying, look at yours, and mess with it you will see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps and keep up the good work!
@johndomutz10524 ай бұрын
You're somewhat very late to the review party. Most of the early models shoot left and need the rear sight moved. Reinstalling the guide rod has been problematic for me. It needs to be carefully installed into the front hole first before it will set on the barrel notch. It gave me fits also This can take a few tries until you get it right. They sent me a new spring also, but it made no difference. For the mag, push down real hard without any rounds, and see if it will chip or shave off the part of the follower that is getting stuck. Admittedly, this should not be required in the first place, but is how I fixed the tight mag.

Update from my last entry below. I E-mailed S&W about the spring problem, and they sent me another that does the exact same thing. S&W has a production problem with this 2.0 recoil spring IMO. I hope Galloway or Lakeline LLc. or another aftermarket company makes a good recoil spring for this gun. Just going to deal with it as is until then.

Whoa! that is crazy! I own it and like it to replace my G42 . My mags load the rounds but not without difficulty even using the loader; in fact all of the MP I have have the same problem with their mags and to load a mag on the guns the slide needs to be opened or it wont lock in like it should, to load a mag with a slide closed you have to smack it from the plate; it does not feel natural at all. I have not shoot any of mine yet, trusting Smith and Wesson name but wont carry one until I do; I have disassembled mines with not issues but cant remember if I have with the bodyguard, too many problems for an otherwise very likable little gun. Hope what they send resolves your problems and you get to love it, one never know these days!

Purchased new S&W Bodyguard 2.0 / 250 rounds of Fiocchi Range Dynamics 95 Gr FMJ / Both were accurate and 100% reliable / S&W BG shoots to the left and a little low (nothing that at 0-7 yards would impair accurate SD fire), however 8-15 yards it may, so be sure to come to the range ready to adjust your sights / Excellent balance between size, weight, power, and shootability / Very pleased

Thank you for your honest review. All I have mostly heard was positive reviews with lots of praise. I found one at the third store I checked, they had the safety and non safety models. Chose the safety and man was it hard to move. Since then I have lubricated and worked it on, off many times. It has loosened up where it will move but not accidentally engage when I decide to carry with it off. My lcp max has a mcarbo trigger kit in it. First two range comparison trips I was very disappointed that the lcp max had much tighter and more centered groups. This past week I shot it along with my beretta 92x performance. It was at a shorter distance at a black background target and I was impressed with its performance. It does feel better made than the lcp max.

I purchased the BG2.0 about a month ago did a two day test because I had to go to different GS to find the ammo I was looking for. First day ball ammo, flat nose and hollow points (brand unknown had them in a plastic bag) Day two box of Critical Defense, box of Hydra-Shok, box of Gold dot hollow points. I can honestly say not one issue from the ammo, prior to shooting it I did have to push the rear sight over to the right and cleaned it. As we all know 380 is a bit expensive but I had to spend the money to make sure it works when I need it and hopefully never.

Great review. I’ve had same problems “Exactly “ ! Sent gun and 12 rd mag back to S&W. 4 weeks later got it back . Looks like they shaved or buffed end of recoil spring to narrow it? Still is near impossible to reassemble it. My guns manual safety was stuck in fire position, they freed that up, lots of marks like pliers were used. Poor repair work. I’m guessing they know the problems for they included 2 new mags. Not for the bodyguard but for a 9 mm shield plus??? Hmmmm I don’t own a shield plus? I’ve emailed them back, asking if they would care to try to repair my bodyguard again, offering to return the swell new shield mags. No reply after 10 days. Lots of reviews and many problems that seem to affect about 50% of all these guns. Wishing Glock would make a higher cap M42 pistol…… S&W sure failed us all with poor quality control and even worse quality repair too!!

@@MDpolo The follower leg on the non-windowed side of the mag needs to be (slightly) trimmed to avoid protruding through the mag seating hole when loading the third round on both the 12 and 10 round mags. The recoil spring can creep up over the front retaining ring, making it all but impossible to reassemble the recoil assembly back under the barrel. If one pulls the spring back behind the retainer, no problem. The stiffness of the springs will wear in with usage. I have 500 flawless rounds through mine and in spite of some initial hiccups, I highly recommend this model for deep carry. YMMV...

I bought one about a month ago. Overall I like the gun, however I have the exact same problem with the recoil spring. I also had the same problem with loading the third round in the mag. The problem is the bottom of the follower gets hung up on the opening of the magazine. I just snipped off the little point of the follower with some nail clippers and it works great now. Both of my magazines were getting hung up on the third round. I still have a hard time installing the recoil spring.

To get the spring to fit back in, on the very end (site end) reseat the end of the spring and it will go right in. You could probably file that end into a taper as well. The mag issue is known and fixable but hopefully the new one is reworked. The follower catches on the mag release notch. You can grind or sand it down to fit and work properly. Some have simply forced it and broken off the piece that catches then works fine from that point on.

I'll keep my LCP Max and my Kahr CW 380 for many more reasons then that and never sell them, but if SW comes out with a 3.0 version of this gun with a bigger trigger guard and no issues, I'll then add it as a 3rd 380 to my collection and still keep the others. I'm a biker so my Motorcycle gloves have to fit thru the trigger guard especially my winter riding fleece lined gloves as well and they fit nicely thru my LCP Max because it has a nice large trigger guard. If I was u I'd never sell that LCP Max its a fantastic practical little gun.

I just field stripped mine for the first time. No problem disassembling or reinstalling the recoil spring/guide rod. You must have gotten a defective one. As for the 12 round magazines, there are videos of guys disassembling the magazine and trimming that little tab on the follower. Yes, most of us had some trouble aligning the recoil guide the first time. It seems to have become a non issue after the first time. We also had problems with our 12 round mags ( I could get 10 mine easily; the last 2 had to be "Lulaed" in. Most modern handguns seem to have teething problems. The Sig 365 was ridiculous, as well as the 320. S&W's 10mm. had feeding problems etc. All said and done: my BG 2.0 has had no failures and is extremely accurate and fast to shoot. It fires all the "exotic" stuff ( Underwood 65grn.+p ext defenders and 90grn.+ p HPs) to point of aim with control ( no milking or adjusting grip). As long as S&W keeps up customer service( 12 round mag returns), this pocket rocket will be a huge success.

If you want it to work well both parties usually have to clean up their act a little bit. The whole trick is not to get the mother-in-law involved. With marriage or your guns. I like the capacity even though the magazine is tight. But if you can’t get it done in nine or 10 rounds you really don’t have to worry about your future.Take the gun out on regular dates and your wife might even be happier because of it. Not to disparities your marriage but us guys need our time and so does your gun

There's a video on youtube about what's causing the problem loading the third round. What's happening is the bottom of the orange follower is hitting (getting stuck) in that rectangular hole in the mag's metal housing. I'd just file the point a bit on that orange piece after disassembly but the host took some nail clippers to it. I think he cut off more than what was needed. Also, even if they send you a new recoil spring and rod, that doesn't mean it's going to fit in that end cap. It looks like there's an end cap there in your video. Please shine a light down in there and see if maybe it got bent over or damaged somehow. I would like one of these but I've seen videos of the 12 round mag swelling and un-insertable with the 11th and 12th round and another video where there's a ridge on the lower part (half) of the two-part feed ramp causing feed problems. I hope S&W gets these things worked out. It's odd, there's a ton of happy campers that have bought these with and without the manual safety.
