Hello and welcome. Today we take a first look at the new ‪@SmithAndWessonInc‬ Bodyguard chambered in .380 Auto. I was excited about reviewing one and it took me some time to find one. They are sold out everywhere. I finally found one and so far, I'm very disappointed. Towards the end of the video I share with you why...

I just tried one at my local gun shop yesterday; I did not notice any issues with the spring. Both guns in stock were harder to rack than I thought; but the one I took apart I was able to put back together quickly. I expected the magazine to be hard to break in but two your 12 rounder is very disappointing. Best of luck; hope to see another video when you get the new parts.

I'm 80 years old and I had no problem at all seeing my front sight and I did not have any carbon build up on the sight! I did have trouble getting that 12th round in the mag but that did not bother me! My 2.0 was very accurate with very little recoil and I shot about 250 rounds so far. I have some nerve damage in my hands and fingers, so I had a little difficult time racking the slide but I was able to take it apart for cleaning! I have had No Issues with this gun and I bought it for my EDC, which I have started to do! I shoot once every week at my LGR and at my age, I just practice shooting for self defense and I find that this gun will serve this purpose for Me!

Everyone said the LCP MAX was good on KZbin and I got a bunch of problems when I got mine, even with replacment slide assembly from Ruger. I eventually fixed all problems and have had 250+ FMJ and 30+ Hornady CD without issue Edit and then my LCP just broken, the sear broke, which wasn't modified or related to previous issues.

After an engineering career in manufacturing companies I agree. The marketing and management folks push engineers to release products before all the bugs have been worked out. So some products will have issues. Rev 2 will solve 90% of the problems but may create other problems. Rev 3 will solve 99% of the problems. The public will never know when the company makes these changes. I will wait for 1 year before buying any newly released product.

I got that gun over a week ago, and I was having the same exact issue you was having with the recoil spring. but I forced it back in. as far as the 12 round magazine it got really hard to put that last round in with my uplula. but I got it to work. The 10 rounder is no problem. when shooting it, everything seems to work itself out. To me, it recoils like a 22. lovely! I love the gun for what I got it for. jogging, bike riding and power walking. What I don't love is the price! That's a lot of money for 380.

I cannot get my spring back in for the life of me, and the round part that seats into the barrel is now super bent and have not even fired it yet. All the way up at the front of the guide rod where it's supposed to go into the slide, the spring seems to be overlapping up front which doesn't let the front part of the guide rod seat into the front of the slide. I asked Smith & Wesson for a replacement guide rod and spring. I also couldn't get around to seat into the barrel all the way, and upon dry fire my trigger was super heavy.

@@VroomNPewis it possible to compress the recoil spring in a c clamp or vice?
@VroomNPew
@VroomNPew Ай бұрын
@@marcwilson4003 yes, but the round part that seats into the barrel is bent, as if someone else before I received it tried to use some tools. Either that or it bent just running the slide by hand a few times. The other odd things that the spring on the other end where it needs to seat into the slide is poking out and flush with the end, so it gets in the way when trying to insert the small and into the slide. I went to a store and they disassembled theirs, and the guide rod compressed very easily and the spring did not extend out into that area and was easily installed. Smith & Wesson is sending me another guide rod and spring, and I hope it fixes my really heavy trigger issues as well. The gun I tried at the store had a great trigger compared to mine. Maybe the slide was being held in a slightly wrong position. I really don't want to have to send the whole thing back in, but it's likely going to happen.

Take the follower out of the 12 round mag and clip the small point off the bottom front. When you use the Uplula the follower wants to twist a bit and that point on the follower hangs up in the magazine hole that’s cut for the mag release button. If you load the 3round by hand you can finish loading with the Uplula. Clip that tip off and problem fixed.

Yes, there have been a few product launch problems: Mostly sight alignment and Mag issues. Both mnnor problems, The basic functioning of the gun has been stellar, Most of the thousands of guns sold work perfectly and make it by far the best small 380 every built. Mine has over a 1000 rounds of a wide variety of ammo thru it without a failure.. Accuracy is super for a small pistol. Trigger is nice with clean break. Super size for concealed carry, I could go on. Just read the reviews.

I only have a fraction of the rounds thru my BG2.0 but will say it is perfect for the gun that it is! I wanted a pocket pistol to carry when I didn’t have a belt on. In other words a gun to have when I otherwise wouldn’t carry ie gym shorts, quick runs etc. but the innovation is why I own this gun. Specifically a 380 auto, which I also told myself- I wouldn’t carry anything less than a 9mm. I still carry my 9’s when clothing permits but now I have this awesome little dude for when I’m not carrying something heavy. Pics and vids do no justice for this gun i have a shield plus sized down from a g19 and this bg2.0 blew me away.!

I just picked one up. Unfortunately, no gun is perfect for everyone, especially when it comes to these tiny micros. I haven't had any of the issues you're experiencing. I'm extremely happy with mine. The magazines are extremely hard to get the last one in, but I did it by hand with some effort. Load them up and store them full over a little use they should get easier. Every micro double stack I own is the same way it's just the nature of squeezing all that capisity into that small of a package , have patience and try to put in as much range time as you can , it should get better. I appreciate anyone who takes the time to review guns it helps me alot good or bad you learn from them.

Yours was the first review of dozens I watched that was less than a stellar review. That made me very interested in watching. Also I have one, only about 200 rounds thru and i had a problem feeding hollow pount and flat nose fmj. Reddit has documented the feeding problems extensively. Overall, I like it. My recoil spring is tight but gave me no problem. My pistol is more accurate than yours. You got a lemon. Every company can put out a lemon, you got one. Two weeks was a bit long for the new parts to come from S&W. They should have rushed it. Good job on the honest review.

I have one of these little Bodyguard 2.0s and I know what your issue is with the guide rod. The spring is, in my opinion, not wound tight enough to keep the termination of the spring under the end of the guide rod. On mine, I can just use my fingernail to pop it back under the guide rod. Once it is "captured" under the guide rod it assembles without any problems. If it isn't captured its nearly impossible to assemble. I suspect you will have the same thing with the replacement guide rod/spring assembly. I also suspect if you understand what I am saying, look at yours, and mess with it you will see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps and keep up the good work!

You're somewhat very late to the review party. Most of the early models shoot left and need the rear sight moved. Reinstalling the guide rod has been problematic for me. It needs to be carefully installed into the front hole first before it will set on the barrel notch. It gave me fits also This can take a few tries until you get it right. They sent me a new spring also, but it made no difference. For the mag, push down real hard without any rounds, and see if it will chip or shave off the part of the follower that is getting stuck. Admittedly, this should not be required in the first place, but is how I fixed the tight mag.

I want one and was able to rent one at the PSA indoor Range. It shoots a bit left but shoots pretty good. I noticed the spent case primers had firing pin drag on them. Every one of the 50rounds of Blazer brass. UPDATE! I picked mine up today and the recoil spring did the same thing. Can't wait to put some rounds thru it to loosen it up a bit. The 12 round mag is really an 11-round mag.

The gun looks great but I have seen no reason to replace my LCP Max. It looks like Smith just shrunk a larger gun down not considering the trigger guard being too small. The LCP functions perfectly for its intended use and has never been considered arranged toy or Target gun. Even the sights are better!

Yup, Love my LCP Max. My brother bought this M&P 380 2.0 a month ago and he's having the same problems. He let me shoot it at the range and it shot nice but the LCP Max conceals better cus its significantly smaller and the trigger guard on the LCP Max is nice and large and fits my motorcycle gloves with ease. The trigger guard on the SWBG is too small for my MC gloves its definitely a no go for me as well.

I just field stripped mine for the first time. No problem disassembling or reinstalling the recoil spring/guide rod. You must have gotten a defective one. As for the 12 round magazines, there are videos of guys disassembling the magazine and trimming that little tab on the follower. I loaded the 2 rounds and saw where the follower was binding up on the mag. I just sliced off that little tab with an X-acto knife. Problem solved.

When you install a disc into a cylender that are close in denension, if the disc is tilted the cross sectional demension is greater than the actual diameter. I had the same problem with the recoil spring. Look at the end of the spring where it fits into shroud. The end of the spring slips over the end of the rod and causes the spring not to be compressed. Reposition the end of the spring underneath under the round top. It should work just fine. Good luck. They are sending me another spring as well. The spring is slightly too larger for the housing in the shroud.

I had the same follower issue on the 12-round mag. Since I always field strip and completely clean and lubricate my firearms and the mags before ever firing a shot, I discovered the binding issue in just a matter of minutes after trying to load the mag. I fixed it by filing off the little tip of the follower with a nail file. I had it fixed in less the 2 minutes. The other issue I had was the spring assembly and guide rod. I could not get the spring assembly to seat on top of the barrel upon reassembly. After a couple minutes I carefully examined the tip of the spring that fits under the guide rod cap that is inserted into the slide, and figured out what was causing the spring to not compress enough to clip the rear guide rod cap to the barrel. The end of the spring is twisted and would not fix under the front cap of the guide rod. This took a little pushing with a tiny flat head screwdriver to get the end of the spring to fit and stay under the guide rod cap. If the guide rod cap is not flush with the end of barrel, the spring cannot be compressed. Being very disappointed in these two issues, I called S&W Customer Service. It was obvious that the gal I spoke with was not interested in any of my feedback. With no empathy or apology, she offered to send out a spring assembly. I explained the issue with the 12-round mag follower, and she didn’t even comment. 16 days later I get the new spring assembly and it’s the same part with the same issue. I have about 200 rounds of 3 different ammo through it and it has worked flawlessly. The amount of grip and force it takes to rack the slide is insane. At 15.3 ozs with a 13 rounds is as good as it gets for a super lightweight pocket carry. The design of the spring assembly looks like a failure or complete lack of quality control. The lack of quality control on one of S&W’s most raved about firearms is inexcusable and unacceptable. A green front sight would be better. I’ve owned firearms since 1977. This is the first S&W firearm I’ve purchased and I most likely will not buy another Smith & Wesson firearm.

You’re right about the front metal first coil on the spring it has to get in that pocket exactly right and then you can get the spring put in I’m going to using a pair of soft Jaw channel locks every time you shouldn’t have to do that but it does work. But Smith & Wesson really should’ve discovered that before they sent it out into the world. Also on the magazine I was having trouble getting past the third round on the 12 round magazine because I was using a loader Smith & Wesson told me to Handload the first three to the follower gets past that first opening in the magazine and the rest you can use the loader because it follower catches on that opening in the magazine. I took my magazine apart and filed a little tip of that follower off and now it works fine no matter how I wanna load it every time but that’s another thing they should’ve figured out

I had the recoil spring not want to go in one time but I figured it out. The end has to be perfectly centered in the slide. The tolerance is very tight. It it won’t go, just rotate it 180 degrees and it goes right in. On the magazine issue, I use an Uplula to get the last 3 or 4 rounds in. It’s the same on the 10 and 12 round magazine. Super tight for sure but I can do it. My trigger tests at 4.5 pounds but feels heavier because of its small size. The dingus is almost as wide as the trigger itself so I’m not sure if it is serving it’s intended purpose. And mine shoots low left as well.

Personally this gun has met my every need and I’m a big handed guy. Pocket carry perfect. But like every marriage nothings perfect. If you want it to work well both parties usually have to clean up their act a little bit. The whole trick is not to get the mother-in-law involved. With marriage or your guns. I like the capacity even though the magazine is tight. But if you can’t get it done in nine or 10 rounds you really don’t have to worry about your future.Take the gun out on regular dates and your wife might even be happier because of it. Not to disparities your marriage but us guys need our time and so does your gun

Yes, most of us had some trouble aligning the recoil guide the first time. It seems to have become a non issue after the first time. We also had problems with our 12 round mags ( I could get 10 mine easily; the last 2 had to be "Lulaed" in. Most modern handguns seem to have teething problems. The Sig 365 was ridiculous, as well as the 320. S&W's 10mm. had feeding problems etc. All said and done: my BG 2.0 has had no failures and is extremely accurate and fast to shoot. It fires all the "exotic" stuff ( Underwood 65grn.+p ext defenders and 90grn.+ p HPs) to point of aim with control ( no milking or adjusting grip). As long as S&W keeps up customer service( 12 round mag returns), this pocket rocket will be a huge success.

Thank you for your honest review. All I have mostly heard was positive reviews with lots of praise. I found one at the third store I checked, they had the safety and non safety models. Chose the safety and man was it hard to move. Since then I have lubricated and worked it on, off many times. It has loosened up where it will move but not accidentally engage when I decide to carry with it off. My lcp max has a mcarbo trigger kit in it. First two range comparison trips I was very disappointed that the lcp max had much tighter and more centered groups. This past week I shot it along with my beretta 92x performance. It was at a shorter distance at a black background target and I was impressed with its performance. It does feel better made than the lcp max.

There are solutions to the two issues. The recoil spring needs to be pushed off the nose of the rod. It can come stuck too far forward and over the ‘stop’ at the end of the rod. The magazine issue is the follower. The follower gets hung up on the mag release notch when pushed down. A small shaving off of the part of the follower that passes by the mag release notch fixes that issue permanently. I also have a solution to the long reset, but I’m not going to tell anyone how to mod their firearm, just know it is possible.

If you look at the end of the guide rod, and fine the end of the spring. On mine it wasn't under the plug flange. I took a screwdriver and slipped it under the flange, and the recoil spring assembly pops right back in, no problem. I say I "found" it, actually there is a thread on the Smith and Wesson forum where the problem is talked about and one of the posters there spoke of it. He has pictures there that show what to look for, but seriously once I figured that out, no more problems. The magazines are loosening up as I've used them. I still use a mag loader, but I'm an old man with arthritic thumbs. I might be able to get those last rounds in but it's pretty painful. That's why they make mag loaders. :) I just took a sight pusher to my rear sight. I didn't go far so it will have to wait until the next range trip to see if it helped. Good review though.

Update from my last entry below. I E-mailed S&W about the spring problem, and they sent me another that does the exact same thing. S&W has a production problem with this 2.0 recoil spring IMO. I hope Galloway or Lakeline LLc. or another aftermarket company makes a good recoil spring for this gun. Just going to deal with it as is until then.

I bought one about a month ago. Overall I like the gun, however I have the exact same problem with the recoil spring. I also had the same problem with loading the third round in the mag. The problem is the bottom of the follower gets hung up on the opening of the magazine. I just snipped off the little point of the follower with some nail clippers and it works great now. Both of my magazines were getting hung up on the third round. I still have a hard time installing the recoil spring.

I purchased the BG2.0 about a month ago did a two day test because I had to go to different GS to find the ammo I was looking for. First day ball ammo, flat nose and hollow points (brand unknown had them in a plastic bag) Day two box of Critical Defense, box of Hydra-Shok, box of Gold dot hollow points. I can honestly say not one issue from the ammo, prior to shooting it I did have to push the rear sight over to the right and cleaned it. As we all know 380 is a bit expensive but I had to spend the money to make sure it works when I need it and hopefully never.

To get the spring to fit back in, on the very end (site end) reseat the end of the spring and it will go right in. You could probably file that end into a taper as well. The mag issue is known and fixable but hopefully the new one is reworked. The follower catches on the mag release notch. You can grind or sand it down to fit and work properly. Some have simply forced it and broken off the piece that catches then works fine from that point on.

I'll keep my LCP Max and my Kahr CW 380 for many more reasons then that and never sell them, but if SW comes out with a 3.0 version of this gun with a bigger trigger guard and no issues, I'll then add it as a 3rd 380 to my collection and still keep the others. I'm a biker so my Motorcycle gloves have to fit thru the trigger guard especially my winter riding fleece lined gloves as well and they fit nicely thru my LCP Max because it has a nice large trigger guard. If I was u I'd never sell that LCP Max its a fantastic practical little gun.

I had both issues with my new Bodyguard 2.0. I first took it apart for initial cleaning and could not get the guide rod in. After about 15 minutes I discovered holding the slide with my left hand with the muzzle pointed at roughly 45 degrees. I then push down with my right thumb on the bottom side towards the chamber. I could use two of my left fingers to relieve some pressure pulling down on the spring it slides in. The 12 round mag using a uplula I forced the third round in. When I did so I heard a pop. Fired 250 rounds through the gun with no issues. I may contact S&W for a new recoil spring and mag. I can always use additional mags.😊

REAR sight: if you are using this for close-in support, as it is designed for, that "larger" U rear site says that if you see the front site anywhere in that U, pull the trigger. This is not for precision long range shooting, get on the target fast as possible, IF you even decide to use the sight as opposed to just looking down the slide during line up. Credit to S&W, they have thought this through.

@@MDpolo The follower leg on the non-windowed side of the mag needs to be (slightly) trimmed to avoid protruding through the mag seating hole when loading the third round on both the 12 and 10 round mags. The recoil spring can creep up over the front retaining ring, making it all but impossible to reassemble the recoil assembly back under the barrel. If one pulls the spring back behind the retainer, no problem. The stiffness of the springs will wear in with usage. I have 500 flawless rounds through mine and in spite of some initial hiccups, I highly recommend this model for deep carry. YMMV...

I just got mine and it came with 10 and 12 rnd mags. It took me awhile to be able to get 12 in the mag using the Uplula loader, couldn't with other loaders. My big issue is this, if anyone else has experienced it. I can't get any mag to load into the gun with more than 9 rnds, even 9 rnds I had to push it with a little effort. I've never had a gun that couldn't load max rnds. Does this sound like a defect? The mags with over 9 rnds stick out the bottom and WILL NOT LOAD into the gun! I don't plan on firing it until i get some answers to this. Quick note: When I remover the slide the full mags go in with no effort. It's almost like the slide is too low on the rail. I can see the first bullet in the 12 rnd mag hitting the slide above, stopping the mag short of locking.

Pocket 380’s aren’t for everyone. I’ve had many of them over the years and doubt I’ve ever had the target out past 5 yards or so. A gun this small with the “defensive” style rear sight and stock trigger you can’t really expect it to be a bullseye gun, especially your first time shooting it. I’ve been ankle carrying the LCP MAX at work for many years and look forward to switching to the 2.0 next year or wherever Smith has a rebate or something.

There's a video on youtube about what's causing the problem loading the third round. What's happening is the bottom of the orange follower is hitting (getting stuck) in that rectangular hole in the mag's metal housing. I'd just file the point a bit on that orange piece after disassembly but the host took some nail clippers to it. I think he cut off more than what was needed. Also, even if they send you a new recoil spring and rod, that doesn't mean it's going to fit in that end cap. It looks like there's an end cap there in your video. Please shine a light down in there and see if maybe it got bent over or damaged somehow. I would like one of these but I've seen videos of the 12 round mag swelling and un-insertable with the 11th and 12th round and another video where there's a ridge on the lower part (half) of the two-part feed ramp causing feed problems. I hope S&W gets these things worked out. It's odd, there's a ton of happy campers that have bought these with and without the manual safety.

I have seen at least 2 video reviews where the trigger was measured several times with the average being in the 3 1/2 range. So i don't think yours is far off. They seemed to not be surprised, so I'm assuming it's nowhere near the 10, if that is what S&W is listing. BG 1.0 is full double action and measures in around 10. But the 2.0 must be much lighter. That is one thing that concerned me in a pocket pistol, if it really is that light.

I've heard the sights are 'combat hold' - not 'target hold' which is probably why you're hitting low. Also the rear sight notch is too wide, so there's too much gap on either side of the front and the front site covers too much of the target at 20 yards or more. I like the slide milling but that's about all.

When they take that useless lover off the trigger I might consider actually purchasing something like this. But for 380 when I did carry one and I had a job where I needed to carry a much smaller firearm. It's been almost 45 years ago now. I loaded my ammo up with 3.8 grains of 231 behind an 88 or 90 grain Hollow point, a pretty stout load. My standard carry gun back then was a 357 and I still do not trust the 9 mm to be a reliable round for stopping gun fights. I read the FBI's Treatise on the 9mm, and there were three reasons why they went to the 9mm. Nobody knew how to shoot actual competent ammo, or were capable. It was cheaper to buy a 9mm ammo, and they can get it in bulk for even cheaper yet
