It's a winner because S&W built something the market demanded rather than what it though it could sell. Big difference. For too long gunmakers have ignored the wishes of its customers. Create something they want, and it sells.

I bought my LCP Max because it was the only pistol that small in .380, with 10+1 capacity. After owning it for a while I got tired of the trigger chewing my finger up so badly, so I installed an aftermarket trigger. That helped but did nothing for the other issues like ergonomics. I own six other pistols from the M&P line, and this new one is going to be #7. Smith & Wesson is on fire these days.

For $30 I put a Galloway Precision flat trigger in it and for another $10 I put their recoil spring in it and now it shoots even more smoother. Love my LCP Max and won't part with it for this S&W. My wife has been slowly warming up to the idea of learning to shoot. I recently purchased a Taurus TX22 compact (.22LR) to use as an initial (soft shooter) training gun for her (and plinking fun for me). She sorta likes the size and feel of my G42 and G43… but first things first. She is going to take gun training classes and move at a pace comfortable for her. When she feels ready to move beyond a .22 LR, I will encourage her to test out many pistols, finding one she likes and feels comfortable shooting. I am very excited about the new BG 2.0. It definitely looks like a winner. I look forward to seeing what she thinks about it. Thanks for another great video!

You said it yourself, the S&W was more modeled to compete with the Ruger. As for it being a better firearm, it's kind of early to be saying that. Ruger has been out for years, and has been highly recommended for .380 pocket. S&W just came out so still needs some range time to see if there are any unknown issues. Not knocking the S&W in any way. I have the Ruger, and I will probably get the S&W as well. I've just learned not to rush in and buy as soon as something new comes out. Once bitten....

Ive owned an LCP Max and I carry a LCP Gen 1 as my edc. I was so stoked on the Max when it came out but I just couldn't hit anything consistently with it. A while back I moved away from .380 pocket carry and back to .38 spl. +p. That said, if a gun could bring me back to daily .380 carry it could be that one. I love my tiny little Kahr CW380 but as you've noted before getting ammo that performs right, especially from micro barrels is problematic. That and tiny autos are far more prone to go "bang....click" than "bang-bang" if you know what I mean. ;) My pocket guns are my "always" guns, that is I will probably have another gun on/in my belt, but I'll have me one in my pocket. Can't tell you how many times I've wound up approaching a dicey seeming situation and just casually had a hand in my pocket, ready to come out with a loud little surprise. Anyway, I'm blathering on again. Great review, as always, sir!

I own an LCP Max and as of two days ago a Bodyguard 2.0. I want to make it clear to people since there aren't many comparison videos yet. There is no competition. The Bodyguard 2.0 is a better gun in just about every way. The Bodyguard 2.0 has a much lower bore axis and allows you to really choke up on the side. The two guns are the same height but I can almost fit three full fingers on the grip of the Bodyguard 2.0 and my pinky hangs off of the LCP Max. The trigger on the Bodyguard is better, you hit a nice solid wall and then a crisp break, the LCP isn't bad but is a little spongier. Overall, recoil is much less noticeable for the Bodyguard and it more pushes into your hand than flips up like the LCP, making for much faster follow up shots. You can find both for about the same price. The Bodyguard 2.0 is also tighter fitting if that matters to you. The LCP sounds like a maraca when you shake it but the Bodyguard has almost no play. Also, the Bodyguard is just a much prettier gun (not a functional thing of course, but the LCP Max just looks a bit goofy).

I like it a lot! IMO if this gun is reliable gun to gun and quality remains good it will take over the subcompact 380 market. It will probably make me sell off my LCPII. I'd like to see S&W add a version in 9mm. Beef up the weight of the slide, add a stronger recoil spring, thicken the frame rails and it potentially could be the most compact, shooter friendly 9mm available. The weight increase would most likely amount to a 16-ounce overall weight. That potential pistol would make me sell my Sig P365 That shaving cream never fails to impress.
@zachm8765

Way too small to chamber a 9mm. There would be nothing friendly about a 10oz 9mm.

@@zachm8765 2yrs ago I bought a Diamondback DB9 Gen 4. They weigh 13 ounces, and it was a handful to shoot. They are very close to the same size as the S&W. I would like the S&W to accommodate the 9mm and beef up the slide by making it less sculptured, add thicker frame rails, a tungsten recoil guide and heavier recoil spring. and of course, lengthen the frame to allow for the additional length of the 9mm cartridge. Theoretically this may increase the weight to 14-16 ounces.

This does look interesting. I’ll have to look at one once they are in a local shop. I have had a LCP Max since shortly after they were released. I carry mine frequently in a pocket holster. It has been left in the cold, left in the heat, and sweat on for going on a couple of years now. Mine hasn’t rusted thus far, and has been 100% reliable. Who knows, maybe I got lucky 🤷‍♂️. I do agree about how the slide rattle though, it is not confidence inspiring. The grip on this S&W does look like an improvement, and that has me interested.

I love my LCP Max!! Mine has never rusted either and I live in the south as well, I have hundreds of rounds of various ammo thru it wit[h no FTF'S and to me it shoots smooth as silk and I shoot it very accurately. Mine came with a Hogue grip on it which I love and I added a Galloway flat trigger on it for $30 and the Galloway outer recoil spring on it for $10 and for me it shoots like a dream. I have a Kahr CW 380 that is an awesome gun that recoils like a bb gun and its very accurate and is even smaller then both the SW and the Ruger but it only holds flush a 7 round mag so I put it in my zipper pocket of my jacket in a pocket holster during winter time as a back up. I will eventually purchase this SW BG 2.0 once the deals come out to have as another pocket gun and placement gun but won't part with the others. Can't ever have enough pocket mouse guns.

I have the original. I wanted something very tiny and it sure is tiny. I needed that for special occasions. The trigger is heavy and the pull is long, but it reminds me of the DA pull on the S&W 5906, which I'm extremely used to, so it doesn't bother me. The thing is, though, I was very uncertain about the original bodyguard so I put over 500 rounds through it before I felt natural with it and was willing to carry it. Since I now only feel a need to carry it a few times a year, I won't be replacing it. When I need pocket carry, i usually use a Ruger LC9S. A long as my hands can handle the LC9S, I'll stick with it (arthritis is creeping it). If I have to drop down to .380, then the new bodyguard will be a strong possibility.
