It's a winner because S&W built something the market demanded rather than what it though it could sell. Big difference. For too long gunmakers have ignored the wishes of its customers. Create something they want, and it sells.

I bought my LCP Max because it was the only pistol that small in .380, with 10+1 capacity. After owning it for a while I got tired of the trigger chewing my finger up so badly, so I installed an aftermarket trigger. That helped but did nothing for the other issues like ergonomics. I own six other pistols from the M&P line, and this new one is going to be #7. Smith & Wesson is on fire these days.

I own an LCP Max and as of two days ago a Bodyguard 2.0. I want to make it clear to people since there aren't many comparison videos yet. There is no competition. The Bodyguard 2.0 is a better gun in just about every way. The Bodyguard 2.0 has a much lower bore axis and allows you to really choke up on the side. The two guns are the same height but I can almost fit three full fingers on the grip of the Bodyguard 2.0 and my pinky hangs off of the LCP Max. The trigger on the Bodyguard is better, you hit a nice solid wall and then a crisp break, the LCP isn't bad but is a little spongier. Overall, recoil is much less noticeable for the Bodyguard and it more pushes into your hand than flips up like the LCP, making for much faster follow up shots. You can find both for about the same price. The Bodyguard 2.0 is also tighter fitting if that matters to you. The LCP sounds like a maraca when you shake it but the Bodyguard has almost no play. Also, the Bodyguard is just a much prettier gun (not a functional thing of course, but the LCP Max just looks a bit goofy).

I like it a lot! IMO if this gun is reliable gun to gun and quality remains good it will take over the subcompact 380 market. It will probably make me sell off my LCPII. I'd like to see S&W add a version in 9mm. Beef up the weight of the slide, add a stronger recoil spring, thicken the frame rails and it potentially could be the most compact, shooter friendly 9mm available. The weight increase would most likely amount to a 16-ounce overall weight. That potential pistol would make me sell my Sig P365 That shaving cream never fails to impress.

@@zachm8765 2yrs ago I bought a Diamondback DB9 Gen 4. They weigh 13 ounces, and it was a handful to shoot. They are very close to the same size as the S&W. I would like the S&W to accommodate the 9mm and beef up the slide by making it less sculptured, add thicker frame rails, a tungsten recoil guide and heavier recoil spring. and of course, lengthen the frame to allow for the additional length of the 9mm cartridge. Theoretically this may increase the weight to 14-16 ounces.

This does look interesting. I’ll have to look at one once they are in a local shop. I have had a LCP Max since shortly after they were released. I carry mine frequently in a pocket holster. It has been left in the cold, left in the heat, and sweat on for going on a couple of years now. Mine hasn’t rusted thus far, and has been 100% reliable. Who knows, maybe I got lucky 🤷♂️. I do agree about how the slide rattle though, it is not confidence inspiring. The grip on this S&W does look like an improvement, and that has me interested.

I love my LCP Max!! Mine has never rusted either and I live in the south as well, I have hundreds of rounds of various ammo thru it wit[h no FTF'S and to me it shoots smooth as silk and I shoot it very accurately. Mine came with a Hogue grip on it which I love and I added a Galloway flat trigger on it for $30 and the Galloway outer recoil spring on it for $10 and for me it shoots like a dream. I have a Kahr CW 380 that is an awesome gun that recoils like a bb gun and its very accurate and is even smaller then both the SW and the Ruger but it only holds flush a 7 round mag so I put it in my zipper pocket of my jacket in a pocket holster during winter time as a back up. I will eventually purchase this SW BG 2.0 once the deals come out to have as another pocket gun and placement gun but won't part with the others. Can't ever have enough pocket mouse guns.

Great review. I agree with everything you’ve said. I really liked my Max but the S&W is a big step forward. I’ve been battling the rust issue with my Max since I’ve owned it. Just put 150 rounds through my BG 2.0 and had no issues. Shot some FMJ, Underwood Xtreme defenders and HST’s. I run the mags with one xtreme defender and one HST every other round.

It sure looks like the business alright. Great ergos, low bore-axis and S&W quality and reliability? Yes please. That being said I am apparently one of the few people that liked the old Bodyguard; A friend of mine has one and with as much experience as I have with double-action revolvers the trigger never bothered my. We've popped soda cans with it at 20-25 yards. But this new gun? Looks worlds away better in practically every way.

I rented an LCP II at my range earlier this year, and it was the most uncomfortable shooting experience I’ve ever had. I quit after about 30 rounds. Between this, the Shield Plus and the Carry Comp series, Smith has come out with some really impressive handguns in the past couple of years.
@raykettel18374 ай бұрын
I don't think I have ever fired more than 20 rounds through my LCP Max at any range trip. A Hogue grip sleeve helps and removing the sharp edges on the trigger and trigger safety make it so I no longer dread pulling the trigger but it still hurts.

Little late to the review, but awesome video! The DeSantis Sof-Tuk leather holster made for the Kimber R7 Mako happens to fit this gun perfectly. I appendix carry it directly on my waistband - no belt needed because of how light the thing is. It fits super low in the holster for when deep concealment is a must. My only complaint with the gun so far is that the stippling texture on the grip gets a velcro effect with polyester shirts, which is pretty annoying.

"Maracas" 😆😂😅 Now this is an appealing .380 👍👍

Yeah, I have a Bodyguard 2.0. I know not everybody loves the idea of carrying a 380 but if you're OK with the 380, that Bodyguard 2.0 is probably the perfect pocket carry weapon. I used to have an original LCP and... that gun never should have made it to market. I'm convinced it was designed by someone that has never used a gun.

How is this gun next to the CSX 9mm s&w hammer fired compact? I bought a M&P bodyguard 380 with a crimson trace laser in 2015. I have 6, 10 and 15 round single stack mags for it and used to carry it alot. But I also back then bought a Walther PPS M2 9mm and put a laser on it with 6,7 and 8 round single stack Mags and carried that alot. In 2018 I bought a Taurus G2 pt111 9mm and put a laser on it. It has 12 shot and takes a variety of 9mm mags, as does the G2c and the G3c which I bought and carry. What is the size of this S&W .380 next to the Taurus G3c?
@skeeterjames9124 ай бұрын
@@miked2543I carry without a safety so long as I have a good kydex pocket holster. The safety can get switched off fairly easily during pocket carry, especially since this one is ambidextrous. I'm always carrying things, bumping into things, etc. I get the appeal of the safety, but personally I still prefer a good rigid holster.
@marcocastillo3684 ай бұрын
I prefer my Diamondback DB9 gen4. It may not have the mag capacity of the Bodyguard but its easily concealable, light, accurate, and dependable. Many will complain that the recoil is too harsh and painful in the hand but in my opinion those may be exaggerated. I prefer .40cal but the little DB9 9mm is a reasonable alternative. Note: Ive had 4 different .380s and Ive never found one that I really liked. I eventually sold them all.

I have an LCP II, yes, less capacity. I'm no fan boy, but the finish has had up extremely well over about four years, almost daily, in my pocket, lots of sweat, grit and crumby weather. I shoot it regularly, it's accurate to me for what it is. New and young shooters can pepper an old can very easily at shorter ranges. It's my way of saying, the LCP II is not an accuracy, or otherwise, disaster by any means. That said, I have been considering a different brand .380, but I'll likely buy this 2.0 Bodyguard, if six months or a year passes without problems popping up.

Hey T & T. Great video, informative yet succinct. Just got rid of an LCP Max. Your ergonomic description of it as “a piece of dimensional lumber” is spot on. I never enjoyed shooting it, no matter what I did (extended mag, Hogue grip, etc.). And the trigger was absolute trash. Felt just marginally better than the cap guns I used to play with as a child. Also, very much enjoyed the beautiful Appalachian accent (hope I got that right). All for free. Good deal. God bless!

I looked at one at my LGS on Sunday. I was surprised how small it was. From the pics I had seen I expected a 3/4 - 7/8 size Shield. It feels a bit less quality than a Shield. It is definitely better than the LCP Max...which I have and have shot a fair amount. They are definitely rattle traps.

I've noticed it looks a lot bigger in pictures, than it actually is. I think it's because the aesthetics are so similar to a full-size Shield.
