I'd say the father's to blame for all this. He obviously knew she was his daughter and that his son was in love with his half sister but he chose to beat up his son and pretend to be racist rather than own up to an affair. He could have reached out at any time and admitted the truth but he kept quiet all this time so when they figured out the truth themselves it was way more painful because of how far it had gone. Now they're suffering horribly because of his selfishness and cowardice.

They are brother and sister genetically and biologically but unfortunately they aren’t brother and sister emotionally and psychologically. That is going to take some serious getting use to for them.

Otherwise, it is all just a ridiculous fantasy created by men to explain that of which was unknown, and abused in order to control those that were brave enough to question the horrific abuse by the church.
