I watched this movie last night and I really think it's worth watching. Unlike the fault in our stars the movie depicts the unlikely friendship of Greg ( an anti social, awkward senior) and Rachel ( a quiet, jewish girl) recently diagnosed with stage 4 Leukemia. It's not a sappy, sad cancer- love story but rather one of how she unexpectedly touched his life and changed him forever. I connected with this movie, because I lost my dad to stage 4 lung cancer, that lead to a brain tumour. My ad was just like Rachel. He was patient, calm and humble. I never saw how much pain he was in and how miserable he was until the very last days. I grew an unexpected bond with my dad through his illness. He touched my life and it made me realize so many things. He fought extremely hard, but as the cancer took over, it took him with it. That is what most broke me. But like Mr. Mccarthy says in a scene in the movie, " Those we love, who die, we still continue to learn more about them afterwards. Their memory lives on." That scene made me cry not because of how much I miss my dad, but how much i am discovering about him even after death. This movie is exceptional.

read this book a couple of days ago...it was truly brutally honest. the hollywood part of my brain is like "nooo i need a happy ending how dare you, Jesse Andrews" but the realistic part of my brain is like "yeah this is life." I just hope the movie lives up to the book

This movie won't be a love cancer story. It said that in the book "I'm not really putting this very well. My point is this: This book contains precisely zero Important Life Lessons, or Little-Known Facts About Love, or sappy tear-jerking Moments When We Knew We Had Left Our Childhood Behind for Good, or whatever. And, unlke most books in which a girl gets cancer, there are definitely no sugary paradoxical single-sentence-paragraphs that you're supposed to think are deep because they're in italics. Do you know what I'm talking about? I'm talking about sentences like this: The cancer had taken her eyeballs, yet she saw the world with more clarity than ever before. Barf. Forget it. For me personally, things are in no way more meaningful because I got to know Rachel before she died. If anything, things are less meaningful. All right?"
@Jadorelainie9 жыл бұрын
And truth be told I dunno if it was an aposteriori thing after reading that paragraph or that I didn't read it properly but just as Greg, things were meaningless after I finished the book hehehe. Still it's a good book

ir you wanted a love story you could go and watch the fault in our stars or some other awful movie like that, this one for me felt just right it felt realistic it felt like the things I went through when I had cancer not everything have to be inspirational or romantic I'm sorry this wasn't inspirational enough or romantic enough for you because that's not how it goes in real life and it doesn't have to be like that in a movie either so if you wanted something like that go and read j*hn green and his horrible books

+Hax0r Actually, being grammatically correct, it would say "Earl and I." But being that the book is written by Greg (the "Me" in the title) is very blunt, it's written with a very sarcastic tone yet very honest and I think that that honesty comes through BECAUSE not everything is grammatically correct. It's like reading a conversation or actually listening to a teenager tell you a story rather than reading a classic novel.

The movie looks good. The thing that is somewhat bothering is the direct and blunt title. On one hand, it's kinda a slap in the face because it is so direct. But on the other, it's not sugar coating what the story is about. Overall, I give props for the studio and whoever came up with a bold title like this.
